Salmond accuses Sturgeon of lying at Holyrood committee

2021 ж. 25 Ақп.

For 11 months, he said nothing in public. Last March, Scotland's former first minister was acqutted at a criminal trial of 13 charges of sexual assault. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Then he was also awarded more than half a million pounds after he successfully challenged the lawfulness of a Scottish government investigation.
Today the silence ended as we got a quietly spoken but furious attack on his successor Nicola Sturgeon.
Why does all this matter? Because we're just weeks away from elections in which the SNP will try and win a mandate for a new independence referendum.

  • As a Scot, I feel sorry for the country as a whole. Salmond was never anything but a bluff and bluster bruiser; look at his little hands - he's never done a day's work in his life. Sturgeon, however, has learned a lot from him, particularly the _'It's no ma fault.'_ stock response, and the abject intolerance of any other political party. It isn't subtle or clever to acquire patriotic support and votes, as opposed to the more considered choices of people with slightly more political savvy. Deferring to one's patriotic base instincts is just an easier decision than weighing-up economic policy or deciphering the long list of quotes and statistics the SNP keep bandying about, all conspicuously minus any costing figures for independence. And equally lacking any shame at the lamentable state of all major portfolios. Sturgeon is looking to acquire a soft dictatorship, which will ultimately render true democracy valueless and irrecoverable. And all because, like Salmond, she is courting and regularly fooling the dimmer patriots. The SNP/Green coalition is the start of this. Instead of ignoring parliamentary votes which don't go her way, she will now simply nobble future votes by ensuring she has the support of the sell-outs formerly known as The Green Party. Any credibility Patrick Harvie has is now in tatters. He took the money and folded. Wake tf up, Scotland.

    • Interestingly, Salmond was first minster when there was an attempt to remove corroboration as a requirement to convict in sexual assault cases. I always think it's poetic justice when people who bang on about making it easier to convict in such cases, suddenly find themselves in the dock and subject to the overtones of "he just got away with it" if the jury find them not guilty. What goes round comes round as they say. Predictably the BBC hit piece on Salmond was outrageous; you could sense Kirsty Wark's disappointment at the outcome.

  • Turns out Sturgeon knew of an earlier person complaint about Salmond’s alleged inappropriate behaviour towards another woman long before this whole charade kicked off, so these recent complaints must have come as no surprise to Sturgeon, one would imagine. By contrast, if Salmond is a letch then its highly likely given the long term professional relationship Sturgeon had with Salmond, that she knew what he was really like. And if that is true, then you can see why the SNP wanted him as far away from the party as possible. But Salmond, innocent or guilty is going nowhere and he is now prepared to destroy the Indy movement over his own self interests. Tyrannical despot or victim? That is the question, but lets not forget there are original complainants here and any rational person would question why so many people complained about Salmond to the police? Sturgeon holds the key. She must know and if Salmond is a sexual predator, or just an overly ‘touchy feely’ guy who has social boundary issues, but being a lawyer, she is well aware that she can’t say anything about that because these matters were dealt with in the Scottish Court. Perhaps a huge injustice has taken place here through lack of evidence, or the way in which the provision of evidence was orchestrated against Salmond. Lets not forget, Salmond was found not guilty in the courts, but critics would say that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Lots of people survive the court procedure and walk free - even if they are guilty. Meanwhile, as ‘old smokey’ (The city of Edinburgh’s chimneys) testify, there is no smoke without fire and we all know what that means. So many complainants, so few answers. The whole affair has been, unsurprisingly, shambolic.

At present in the UK you cannot improve society with our voting system which will always favour the Tories. The Tories stand for greed for profiting from others misfortunes whether Covid or selling arms to maim women and children The Tory Chumocracy is about exploitation of the working classes to make the Poor poorer and the Rich richer ! The Scottish Nationalist will create a country with a true democratic voting system which will give far more representation to the people to create a better country .
