The FDA recommends that we eat a balanced diet of 2,000 calories a day. Some days we do a better job passing on the pizza and reaching for a salad, and some days it's digging into a full pint of ice cream sort of day. Here's what 2,000 calories of various food items look like.

    • @@grapepear5695 For that you should thank the actual quality of the food. A pizza is an empty carbohydrate. Try having 500 calories worth of bread and then try 500 calories worth of lean meat. The meat won’t only make you feel more full but it also processes slower so you’ll be full for a long time. On the other hand, the bread will make you feel very very full for like an hour tops with no overall benefit to your body. That’s why you want to eat more of the bread right after. Notice that the bread could be ice cream, fries, rice or whatever.

  • When counting calories, you have to do a lot of estimating. It is very difficult to find out exactly how many calories are in a food. Packaging labels are allowed to be 20% off the actual calorie count. So even if you strictly count your calories and weigh your food, you are still estimating. I count my calories using an app, but I know it’s just an estimate. I’m a 5’9” 150 lbs 38 year-old male, and I need to eat about 2300 calories per day to maintain my weight. But I’m not exactly sure how accurate that is. It’s a rough estimate. The bottom line is, don’t take your calorie counting too seriously. Don’t waste lots of time on it. Just make an estimate, because no matter what you do, you’re estimating.

Obviously it's a value with uncertainty and that amount of detail can't be reported on packaging which is why they also say "calorie needs vary". For more precise guidelines there are many other tables and charts on their website and other resources.

Tonight, I added a green pepper, a red pepper and an onion to a half pound of ground beef, added taco seasoning, cooked it and rolled the mix into raw cabbage leaves. to give it some crunch. Forgot to mention hot sauce...delish!

If there's no muscle there will be MORE fat. Doesn't matter how much I eat per day, could be 1,500 or 4,000 either way I'm 205 to 210 if I'm not built. When I'm built I'm 175 to 185. And no it doesn't give me a sugar crash or give me too much radioactivity. It does give like 15 grams op protein or so. :) Consuming animal products; now that is unhealthy and makes you fat. At least if you are a human. Carbohydrates are stored for 9/10 as glycogen, fats are stored as well... fat. Calories are extremely arbitrary and give almost no representation. 'Cutting calories' doesn't make you slimmer if you keep putting things in your body that it's not evolved to consume.

  • Tips for Those who are counting calories: Eat whole food which are unprocessed. You could eat 2,000 calories of whole raw food and absorb 2/3 to only half of the calories and could loose weight. However if you eat processed, and ultra processed food, even if you count the calories and only eat 1400-1600 calories of junk food you are absorbing all of the calories, plus you are risking myriad of health issues including pre-diabetes. And this applies even if you are skinny. You'd be surprised at how many skinny people are prediabetic due to all those sugar spikes. Secondly, for all those saying they eat 3,000 to 5,000 calories and don't gain weight, you are either 1-lying, especially to yourself 2-will get fat later and you won't even notice how slowly you will add on all those weight. 3-or you don't actually know how much you are eating. You are overestimating what you eat because you are not preparing all those food yourself. Thirdly, for all those who are saying everybody has different metabolic needs as per their gender, race and activity level. 1-you're right. 2-however the needs don't vary too much. Only about 500-700 calories plus or minus. And this applies even if you are pregnant by the way. Unless you are trying to bulk up the muscles. Then you will need tons of calories. The calorie needs will have to be catered to your individual goal and should be done gradually so I won't be commenting on that. Those who are saying thay will gain weight if they exceed 1500 calories a day 1-you may be right. Especially if you are a short woman of small build. You may even need even less to get rid of those fat rolls. 2-however make sure to snack on high calorie healthy than on low calorie pizza slices. Lastly, about health 1-caucasians/polynasians can get much much larger before they experience the effects of obesity 2-Asians/south east asians/Dravids can only be slightly larger but within normal bmi to slight overweight to experience the health effects. This is because of where your fat gets stored. The former's fat cess have a huge capacity to store fat on fat cells before it spills into visceras. However asians don't have too much capacity to store fat and it spills into viscera. I know nobody's reading this😅

I personally can lose weight quite easily in a short time, but thats cause im really strict on my diet and i walk a lot, do hiit workouts, ocasionally run and do some body weight exercises. Also even if you are eating healthy you may have been eating too much and have been in a calorie surplus all this time without knowing. Thats why counting calories is so important. If all that i mentioned u have been doing and u still havent lost weight than you have a horrible metabolism.

  • yeah but 18 bananas is 50 times better then 18 peanut butter cups. not saying you should eat 18 bananas in one sitting but compared to the chocolate which is full of processed shit and no nutrients and lack of fibre.

  • That's why i "adore" this "eat whatever you want but up to n calories a day" dieting concept. Finishing your burger at midday you realize that yout limit is over already but body is not going to allow you feel up from net 16 hours ang hunger will be back just in 4-6 hours. Life. Pain.

  • It's not about Calories, it's about mostly carbohydrates. I feared I might lose my muscle mass and put on fat when the lockdown started in Germany, so to prevent that, I started kayaking a few times a week, eating no more than 2000-2700 calories a day (depending on my sport intensity) , and limited my Carbohydrates and Omega 6&9 fat intakes. The result: I gained muscles in my upper body and lost nearly 15 kg of body weight. Don't ask me why, but it works. Now in Summer 2022, at 41 I feel more fit and athletic than when I was 30 and kickboxing weekly. Cheers fella, 🍻 I hope you find it as helpful as I did.

    • I would be careful with this since we need carbs to make energy for the most part and those omega 6 and 9 fats are some of the heAlthiest fats you can get, I would find the amount of carbs that works with your body over trying to lower them to an extreme and focus on reducing saturated fats and increase mono and poly saturated fats.
