Welcome to part three. Following the recent successful cold boiler test, the steam snow blower was fired up again today for the first time after having been exposed at the Swiss Museum of Transport for 40 years. Everything went smoothly. The team of the Dampfgruppe Zürich is delighted.

of course you are

Holy smokes, Capitan on the bridge!🫡
Can you make somethig like that?
did not expect to see you here, but also not surprised 😂
It’s a shame there was no snow to snow this magnificent beast in action !
I agree! I was excited to see how it clears snow from the tracks.
Yeah, I'd love to see that monster cutting through the snow, I wonder if the fan is better or worse than other systems.

search for the newer R12, there are many videos on YT
It also makes fantastic coleslaw by the ton in the summer months.
What a machine, and so creatively filmed with attention to fascinating detail (the wobbling oil-can, etc). The drone shots, too. Thanks so much for posting.
Thank you!👍🍀
@@schoeneggbahn hopefully you guys got the camera that was in the firebox out?

@𝕯𝖗.𝕻𝖊𝖗𝖚𝖓 This Train is probably made in switzerland, because Uri has this yellow emblem with the bullhead. It makes it even better ;-).
@𝕯𝖗.𝕻𝖊𝖗𝖚𝖓 this is a swiss train, isn't it?
Shoutout to the brave cameraman who not only sat in the furnace, but also in front of a spinning propeller 🙏
You will never know what music a piano will make unless it is played. The same goes for steam machinery.
You could always throw the piano in the fire box
Even the small models of a working steam engine, I find fascinating and hypnotizing...

Actually, with the knowledge of physics, and the help of computer aided design. We know, not only how it will play, but how it **should** play.
Beautiful to see her wake up, to breath, to live again. Thank you.
Beautiful! One thing the Sims don’t show is starting a locomotive from cold. I’m happy to see there are still some of these beasts functioning out there!
It's a minor thing, but good job on recording this on a camera with global shutter, there was absolutely no distortion on the spinning fan, there was regular motion blur but all the lines stayed perfectly straight.
You mean on there mobile phone 😂

The unit looks perfect as if it came out of the factory. Beautiful. Best regards.
Fantastic video, these steam snowblower trains fascinated me as a kid, only ever saw them on TV and in books.
Glad there's a way to clear zombies and snow from the track! Great job
: )
Thank you for preserving this beautiful part of history.
I think that people of that language use serbians, jews and Russian children and womans bodies for steam

Sehr schön eingefangen in Brugg!
1:57 The snow plough is super impressive, but so is that Moustache!
That's not a moustache. That's a personal snow plough.

What a wonderful work of art this steam snow blower it is. It is great just hearing the sounds of all the steam parts working together and seeing it happy bouncing around in place functioning as she is to be. I would love to be on that thing when she is hard at work blowing snow away from the tracks. Great video, and great shots of all the working parts you can see of her.
But it could do with some balancing work.
I love the way this lets the video itself tell the story. well done.
I love the way they fired it with Ikea wood lol
Well done! Marvellous machine.
Gruess
Hello! I agree, the Snow blower is very very highly complex and highly effective (probably).
Wonderful Dampfschneeschleuder. Thank for for sharing this.
Impressive example of old world craftsmanship. Fantastic video production as well showing so many details of the operation.
Engineering at it's finest I love it
.....soooooo genial !! herzlichen Dank !!!
That machine is both beautiful and terrifying in a way I can't explain.
Das video ist sehr gut! Danke!
Bravo ! super reportage ... et très belle mécanique !
Just pure nostalgia. But very hard working guys amazing
Man, that looks DANGEROUS.
I love that this is just a wooden Shed wrapped around s steam engine! I love my Shed!
It's hard to explain to younger people that sometimes "Newer" is NOT BETTER. The Leslie Brothers invented this type of Rotary Snowplow in Canada in the 1880's - and NOBODY has made anything better in 140 years! It's GREAT to see one being put back into action! Congratulations to the entire crew! I hope she sees MANY more years of great use!
Same Leslie who later established a foundry in the US to make steam regulators and air horns (their best known product).
It's hard to explain to boomers that burning coal in 21st century is a literal crime against humanity.
@@nikitab1011 BULLSHIT! Coal can be burned as cleanly as Gas - all it takes is the proper equipment to burn it at high temp, and scrubbers to clean the ash. This is already happening in England.
@@normmcrae1140 1) Gas burning doesn't produce CO2? And no scrubbers and high temp burners arent anywhere as efficient even on power plants, never mind ye olde locomotives that for the most part have received minimal/no environmental modifications. But hey, USE MORE CAPS, maybe THAT will CONVINCE me.
@@nikitab1011 If you're going to whine about a SINGLE HISTORIC locomotive that burns coal - why don't you go bitch to China about the 1000 or so BRAND NEW COAL-BURNING POWER PLANTS that they will build THIS YEAR ALONE! With THOUSANDS MORE planned!
What a fantastic machine!
This was beyond interesting, thank you.
It kind of looks like someone strapped a computer fan on the front of a 1:16 modelkit, and I love it all the more for it! I do hope they plan to use something a bit more capable than a locomotor for driving.
That clean, pristine firebox was a joy to look at. Some very good shots of it, most other videos would just show a blazing inferno from the outside with no further detail.
I love the metricness of it all!
still looks brand new.... hats off to people who maintain it...
It was in the Lucerne Transport Museum for Decades before being restored to operating Condition. IIRC, half the wooden Body was removed in the Museum to see the Boiler inside, so a lot of it had to be rebuilt from Scratch.
Super Arbeit ! Dem Team und dem Kameramann und Filmbearbeiter !
Es gibt immer nach unten Drücker, egal was man filmt. Ich habe mich daran gewöhnt😊👍

Pay no mind to me, Just a guy with a love for Steam Locomotives and a barely there understanding of German, just enjoying this video.
I don't speak a word of German. I do appreciate fine machinery and Steam engines in peculiar. I don't think there is a language barrier amongst us, anymore than watching a beautiful sunset without saying a word. : )
I can say a few words in German But that’s about it but I love the video!
Nice work to the whole team.
❤🚂👍 Tolles Video ! Danke.
Danke für das Lob!
Stunning machine but by the time it’s ready the snow has melted 😄
There's always some snow in Switzerland ;)
She is now ready for the 175th aniversary of the Swiss Railroads in 2022. 7 months till the snowseason begins again is short notice. So be prepared for beautifull video's of that old gall playing again whit lots of snow.😁

Echt eindrücklich was da abgeht. Wow :)

Interesting to see a a steam locomotive in a wagon like that the drivers probebly never complain about the cold

That's a nice Dampfschneeschleuder.

Professor Fate would have loved this to clear the ice and snow during the Great Race!
Our old trains had cow-catchers. Now we can make burgers during the trip.
Great moment.. ☺👍👍
If that was me lighten that thing up I would be very nervous and very excited!
Cow catchers have come a long way.
I bet Health and Safety love this train 🫀🫁🦷👀👄🧠
To see the person smoking while working seems similar to Turkish workers. Smokes cigarette by one hand and does the job by other hand. The most anticipated scene for me.. Otherwise it is very nice to watch these intersting giant machines. Thank you for your efforts.
Amazing video....
First ever certified salad chopper built into a train!!!.
amazing 👌
I WOuld LOVE To See This Beautiful Piece Of Art In Work, How It Showels The Snow, THAT Would Be A Lifetime GOAL For TrainSpotters !
This one is highly unlikely, as it would require a lot of Snow in the relatively flat Swiss Midlands, and the Standard Gauge Alp Crossings in Switzerlands are way too busy to allow closing them for demonstrating historic Snow Blowing. There are two Narrow Gauge Rotary Snow Plows in Switzerland though, one on the Bernina Railway and one on the Furka Railway. Both of these Lines climb over 2000 m high. The Bernina Line still is a commercial Railway, so they clear it with modern Equipment and then shovel a bit of Snow on it again, to show off their Rotary Snow Plow. The Furka Line is a Heritage Railway though, and closed over Winter anyway. So they can show their Rotary Snow Plow under real Conditions without having to worry about being fast or efficicent or even clearing all the Snow at all. There is a Video on this Channel of the Furka Snow Plow battling against rock-hard Snow in April, and it gives you an Idea how tough of a Job it was to run these Machines.

Well this was cool.
Unglaublich!!
Awesome....
Congratulations on a job well done. Just a suggestion, to make this plough and other steam engines more readily available for show, how about a wagon mounted electric boiler to speed or pre-prepare the heating of the boiler and reducing preparation time. Reduce the magnitude of heat cycles if used over a number of days running, to maintain temperature overnight with a reduced fire. Not suggesting the plant the Union Pacific had at there Cheyanne depot to keep Big Boys at temperature.
The Swiss had something similar to it already The panograph wires they have over their lines use to feed steam locomotives power to preheat there water.
@@jamesbuckner4791 Yes I have seen the pictures of the electric steam loc. This railway however does not still have a complete overhead system. A system running of domestic voltage/ampage in the storage shed is all I suggest.
I have seen that steam tugboat somtimes had tube connections to start them hit steam because the fuel pump and main blowers are steam powered as well so when and and also use steam to preheat the macines Not to heat the water that takes to much power
@@briancooper562 domestic voltage/amperagE is 230V at 13A sustained, so that’s only a few kW. I don’t think that’d be enough to heat the boiler significantly. Slightly less domestically, sure, three phase can be a lot more. But it’s pretty expensive power.
@@JasperJanssen The suggestion is to maintain some if not all of the temperature within the boiler after a days work. To reduce the thermal stresses due to a full cooling/heating cycle of the boiler.
Nice !!!
