I updated my A1 today and am most impressed indeed by the super fast startup, this will be great for birding. The bird eye AF on the 200-600 G was the best that it has ever been today. Thanks Sony, this has really made my A1 fantastic!
Great to hear!
Thank you for the useful informative video. Great job.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the info!!
No worries!
Worked perfectly on my 2019 macbook pro (pre M1 chip), updated from ver 1.31 to 1.35 then to 2.01 Connected to Creators' app on iphone as prompted. Then downloaded and installed the MG CAMSET from Patreon after saving the Sony CAMSET as backup. Thanks so much!!
Good to hear the update worked smoothly and the CAMSET saved you the hassle of setting up from scratch
Thank you Mark as always for super useful info !!
My pleasure!
Thanks Mark 🙏🏽👍🏽
No worries!
Well done Mark!
Thanks for your positive response
Thanks for that.
No worries
Fantastic news long time waiting
Hopefully there will be more to come
Hello Mark, always super helpful, always find your videos helpful, thank you for making this. Does this update solve the sudden blackout on the first shot of a sequence which was for some reason added in the version 2.0 software? I've found that quite annoying given the previous software didn't have this and it's a major advantage during sports photography.
There is a menu option to add a blackout on the first frame to let photographers know they have started shooting a burst - you can choose not to use it.
I may wait a month or two before to install this as my A1 works thus far.
That's good advice for users not needing to rush into things and use the new Creators' App, Touch functions or Focus breathing.
Hello Marc, first of all, thank you for the informative video. When will the update to your e-book be available? Do you explain the different menu options and give recommendations?
The eBook was updated today and is full of setup recommendations
Hi, can I use my previously saved camset backups on this firmware? Thanks as always, Mark!
No - this is not possible. I had to create a new CAMSET for my A1 owning Patrons on Patreon.com/markgaler
Thanks for the update video, Mark. 1) Do you have a new Camset file for the 2.1 update or does the older 1.xx one work? 2) Is your e-book updated to reflect the new features. I can understand that being rather challenging to keep up to date. Interestingly, I tried updating just a couple days ago, and the driver file was missing from the web site.
I have updated the CAMSET which is compatible with version 2.00 and 2.01. The eBook update will follow shortly.
@@AlphaCreativeSkillsAlong those lines, if we have paused on our subscription but have the Ebook, will we be able to update, or do we need to be subscribers still? I am fine either way. Thanks for this video….do you suggest updating?!
@@AlphaCreativeSkills does that mean if I sign up to Patreon I get the camset again? Had before but was wiped on the upgrade to 2.0.
Thx Mark. Installing the new firmware worked flawlessly. Too bad the saved CAMSET file cannot be loaded. No idea what I do wrong.
I had to create a new A1 CAMSET for my Patrons - this is typical of a major firmware update.
I see you are going to do a new CAMset for Patreons. Are you going to update your eBook?
Yes- that will follow
Great ❤
Finally - let's hope this version does not have any bugs
Hum, There might be bugs although small ones. Most software have bugs… but success depends on their relative impacts…
@larrywhitephoto Did the sony alpha 1 firmware update 2.01 eliminate the wheel ISO option.
You can still assign ISO to the Control wheel if you like, but the default is 'Not Set'.
Thank you for the update on the A1’s new 2.01 firmware. Will do some more studying before I try to install the update to my two Alpha 1s.
There is no rush 👍
Since the update is essentially a new operating system will the camset file I create before updating be valid after the update?
No - that is why I have created a new CAMSET for my Patrons they can use after the update.
Is it possible to save the settings before the update and load in the settings after? I understand this might not work since this firmware is quite a big change.
The video explains that this is not possible
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thank you.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills what about when you have already installed 2.0 without problem?
Hi, I still get the same Bluetooth/wifi error message despite having reset etc... Really disappointing
I recommend you contact Sony with a view to having your camera serviced
Why isn't there an update for a7r5? Many of the new features found in the cheaper lower version, the a7cr, are not available in the a7r5. Even the paid license “Custom Gridline” is not supported.
I am not a Sony engineer or an employee, so I am not able to answer questions relating to things that i have no knowledge about. I offer support for the cameras and firmware that has been released.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I know.... It just disappointing for Sony.
There was one last month, which I applied to my A7R5 with no problems.
I've just gone to a Mac after 45 years on Windows and don't understand how to update? There's no video on the Sony website on how to install it on the Mac of course. I installed the driver but now I'm getting a short message when running the updater to check the security & privacy settings but no help or explanation. The instructions on the Sony UK page don't work and are out of date for my system Phew
If you are unable to follow the update procedure on Sony’s download page then maybe you can find a friend with a PC to help
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Let me elaborate. The latest OS on my Mac needs additional security permissions before you can install these updates. So to get to the stage of advice on the Sony website where it instructs you to change other security permissions to allow the updater to run will not happen unless you change the other settings first.
Hi everybody, I hope I understood your issues right. Same to me. I found on youtube the brandon cole photography channel. He faced some weeks ago the same issue during updating process…he very well explained and showed in the video how to do the correct procedure on a M1/M2 or M3 apple computer… best oli
@@olik9281 That's who I found. I would never have solved it if it wasnt for him
I'm a bit reluctant to update from 1.32 to 1.35>2.01. I've seen some issues where people are still encountering wifi and bluetooth malfunctions so it seems like a possibility this could still happen? Last year before the 1.32 firmware was released, my A1 randomly went into a boot loop and I had to send it to precision camera to get the main board replaced, this wasn't related to any firmware updates but I want to make sure this doesn't force me to have to send my camera off to repair again.
My A1 did this, bluetooth malfunction for no reason, can’t use bluetooth at all, very frustrating.
More information is slowly coming to light and it appears the Firmware 2.00 and 2.01 is reporting a hardware component failure the previous firmware was not able to find. So if you currently have issues with network operations then your camera running firmware 1.32 may already be effected ...without it being reported via an error message.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thank you for the reply, Mark, and for all of your amazing content. I think you're right about the firmware exploiting a weakness or something related to some of these boards/quality control issues. I was lucky to have a month of manufacturer's warranty left and it didn't cost me anything to fix. I hope Sony does the right thing for A1 users outside of their warranty period. Firmware update went off without a hitch but does seem to run hotter. Eye AF/face detection seemed to be better as well.
Good evening Mark, I updated my Sony A1 to firmware 2.0 and it gave me a lot of problems. I just updated to the new version 2.1 and the problems are still the same. Do you have a solution? One of the main ones is that I don't have a connection to the mobile and I can't use anything from creators. Thank you.
Contact Sony with a view to having your camera serviced.
You can try what Sony suggested: “With reference to your enquiry regarding Sony ILCE-1, kindly note that we have received the outcome of the investigation which confirms that you can temporarily use the following workaround untill the fix will be released: - [Wi-Fi] connect by selecting [Manual] in [IP Address Setting] of [Access Point Set.] under [Wi-Fi] and specifying the camera’s IP address. - [LAN IP Address Setting] of [Wired LAN] You can connect by selecting [Manual] and specifying the camera’s IP address. However, The PC remote function and the sync release function may not be available.”
I'm on 2.0, is it worth upgrading to the 2.01 as I haven't experienced the connection bugs so far... and is it possible to update from 2.00 to 2.01 via the creators app please?
No difference in features - take your time if you don’t need to upgrade now
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thank you Mark!
@@AlphaCreativeSkills @scotbaston1018 is it now possible to update from 2.0 to 2.1 via the SD card or Creator's App?
I love my A1. It is an awesome camera; especially for the wildlife shooting I do. But I must admit the updates are nearly worthless. It’s basically some bug fixes or feature gaps that were filled. Where’s pre capture? That would be a useful new feature even if it were not possible to implement it at full speed. What about some focus stacking capabilities? I guess Sony wants to encourage A1 owners to add a new Sony body to get new features. I suppose that works when you have an A1 and there’s no competition. But now Nikon has delivered some bodies that are competitive and Nikon routinely adds value to the existing kit through firmware updates.
This was a major release - that just missed some of the features that the Alpha community was hoping for. I don't believe Sony has an agenda like the one you have outlined. I will continue to respectfully ask Sony for additional features.
After updating to 2.01, the rate of battery drain is extraordinary, and the camera heats up just being on and in movie mode, even when in airplane mode. When it is connected to the Creators app, the heat buildup and battery drain (in whatever mode) makes the combination essentially pointless. I just left my camera off overnight, in airplane mode and with the power switch in the Off position, and it still drained 7% of the battery. Is it safe (or even possible) to downgrade the firmware back to 1.35?
This is not normal and not something I am experiencing after updating to Ver. 2.01. Contact Sony with a view to having your camera serviced.
Does this update affect the use of third party camera batteries? I read somewhere that after the update the camera no longer works properly with them.
I don't own any third party batteries to test this for you.
if have verison 2.0 do you update to 2.01 or 1.35 first? thank you
Just 2.01 if you have already updated to version 2.00
Does the A1 have an AA Filter on the sensor? I have always been curious
Sony's published specs do not provide information about whether the A1 has an AA filter or not. Many believe there is no AA filter.

I had to reconfigure my camera going from 1.32 to 2.00 - will my saved settings from 2.00 be compatible to load back back onto 2.01?
Yes
Why sony is not giving 'over the air' software update facility like we update our phones, just connect to wifi & start updating?
This will no be possible after the new firmware has been installed. Updates can now be carried out with a connected smartphone. This is the last time you will have to connect the camera to a computer.
is there any benefits to stills photographer?
I don’t see any benefits for still photographers. It looks like it’s all for video.
I listed all of the major benefits - more than half are for stills shooters.
Hi, Mark. Where I can find the 1.35 version to download, before I then upgrade to the v2.01?
It downloads at the same time and in the same folder as the version 2.01 firmware
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thank you.
My Macbook shows "You need to install Sony Camera Driver" when I click 01_Update_ILCEE1V135.
Yes / you need to install the driver as outlined in this video
Updated mine yesterday, monitor is slow to reach full brightness after waking up. So wakes up dim from standby, then after about 5 seconds gets brighter. Any ideas anyone please?
This is not what I am experiencing after the update. Please contact Sony with a view to having your camera serviced.
anyone know how to make back button focus work for remote shooting? previous app let you touch to focus on phone even if you had back button focusing, this new app doesn't let you focus on phone with back button focusing.
Given that you are not touching the back button when using a remote it does not matter if you have back-button set up on the camera or not. I can touch to focus with a back-button set up or with focus linked to the shutter please when using the Creators app
Thanks for the reply. I don't quite understand what you mean by it will focus on release of shutter because my AF is not triggered by shutter button since I'm using back button focusing. I disabled AF w/ shutter I was able to tap to focus on the previous mobile app (imaging mobile) even with back button focusing setup equivalent to current set up after v2.00 and 2.01 but Creator's app doesn't seem to give me any way to change focus manually or automatically.. This is my AF/MF setting v2.01 just to clarify: Priority set in AF-S - Release Priority set in AF-C - Release AF Tracking Sensitivity - 1 AF illuminator - Off Aperture Drive in AF - standard *AF w/ shutter - off*(to be able to use back button focus only, with previous app and v1.32 I was still able to focus by tapping on phone) pre-AF - off I use AF-ON button with AF-ON function for back button focus Once again, thank you for the reply and I apologize if you did provide a viable solution but I was simply too ignorant to understand...
Hi Mark. Just installed now FW 2.01 on my A1 but i’m not able to see the icons on menu that you present on the left on minute 4.40 (shooting screen). Can you help me to activate that? Many tks.
Can A1 users who are running firmware 2.0 upgrade to firmware 2.01 using a media card in camera
I didn’t see that option, but i would guess that every subsequent upgrade will be via a memory card
How can I get update version 1.35 before updating to 2.01?
The 1.35 update downloads with the version 2.01 update.
Did it get Anima/Bird eye detect in video mode?
I din't see this one listed as an update.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills It's the biggest flaw that's making me get the A7Rv instead for now and wait for A1 II.
Tracking on the A7RV is not quite as reliable as the A1 but if you don’t photograph rapidly moving subjects you may not notice.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Indeed. A7Rv would mostly be for weddings, more static and less erratic moving subjects. Only A9III beats A1 as far as I know as the best focusing camera in the world right now.
Where are some A9M1/2 updates?
Wrong forum - try asking on a Sony forum
Has anyone else gotten the error message "this file cannot be loaded" when trying to reinstall custom settings?
As outlined in this video, and on the firmware download page, the camera will be reset to factory settings and old CAMSET files will no longer be compatible. I provide a new CAMSET file for my Patrons on Patreon.com/markgaler
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I misunderstood that bit, thank you for clarifying Mark. And as always, thank you for the fantastic and useful content. Cheers!
Very disappointed that Sony doesn’t give Alpha owners “Pre-capture” in the update. Is the Alpha 1 still the flagship in Sony mirrorless lineup???
That would have been nice - maybe in the next version if we are lucky
hello. Mr. Mark Galer. After updating to 2.01, my camera Bluetooth and Wi-Fi do not work. After initializing the camera, it works normally, but when I touch the network settings, it quickly becomes abnormal. The Bluetooth remote control cannot be used. I can't access the Sony Creators app. Wi-Fi connection also does not work. +In vertical grip, 'Toggle' MY DIAL operates as 'During hold'. The camera body normally operates as 'TOGGLE'. I placed that button in C2. I updated from 1.32 to (1.35) to 2.01.
You didn't install 1.35?
Report the issue to Sony as I have full Bluetooth and Wi-Fi function. You would need to pair the Bluetooth remote again after the update process.
@@barrywilson7401ouch... He was supposed to upgrade to interem 1.35 first, then 2.01. Ouch
@@barrywilson7401 I installed version 1.35 and then 2.01.
same thing happened to me!!!
I thought this firmware got pulled due to issues with it?
That's why this is 2.01
think that's 2.00? 01 is a hotfix for 2.00.
This is the replacement for the 2.00 version
Ahh ok cool thanks!
When is the A1 ii coming ?
I don't think anyone outside of Tokyo knows the answer to that question.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills hope so it comes sooner
It doesn’t matter when it comes... A1 owners aren’t going to be fooled again and purchase a body that will be neglected the moment the A7V drops. A1 is my final Sony camera
I think Sony should update their cameras similarly to computers, mobile phones, etc… given these are digital computerised cameras… The hardware will therefore have to be future proof built to accommodate either additional hardware modules and updated firmware .
They better provide a FW 3.0 update with Pre-Capture, Focus Stacking & Animal/Bird Eye AF in Video in June after the R1 debuts. I forgive Sony as long as they are holding back arrows intentionally to counter the R1
Or What? Did Canon officially announce the R1 yet & if so, what is the MP of it? Thanks for any replies.
Who cares what Canon is doing? I’m going to be continuing to shoot my a1.. I could care less what the R1 does. I bought it for my use case then and now and the money it brings in, not for what I hope it does in the future. I’d love to have focus stacking but any Canon release doesn’t change my income at all… Probably picking up an a9III soon for any event/bad lighting situations my work entails sometimes but the sun will continue to rise and set..
I was excited when I saw the 2.01, I though maybe they had added features people actually want and expect on a flagship camera such as those you mention. But not it's just a fixed (we assume) 2.00. I think this will be all we get now for the A1 until the A1ii :( pretty poor by Sony.
Maybe they will - perhaps add a respectful request on a Sony forum. I am pretty sure Sony don't read the comments on my KZhead channel.
Keep dreaming. Not going to happen. The update will be called A1ii
Still getting the same bluetooth/wifi error - unacceptable and ridiculous
Consult Sony to report the issue
@@AlphaCreativeSkills already did - thanks
@@marcom.jaeger7277 how did you contact them pls? Any support received yet? Same issue here.. Tks!
I wish the Sony A7III would get a firmware update, but I know it'll never happen.
I have to agree with your assessment here.
And still no Animal/Bird AF in video mode.
That is correct
I am one of them who has instal the 2.00 and cant connect to my creator app. After installing the 2.01, I still cant connect to the app. Now I am experiencing some problem with the menu button, some times, need to press a few to bring up the menu and some times in menu mode if jump back to live screen. This is getting bad to worse. Whats wrong with Sony.
Sounds like you need to contact Sony with a view to servicing the camera.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills It seems that a quite number of camera owners have the same issue.
I have an a7iv and the firmware updates have been less than desirable. Maybe one day they do something worthy enough to leave the earlier versions. And this version shouldn't be a major update or version update.. This one is weak as well
Sorry you were disappointed with this A1 firmware update.
This socks from sony. I hate the factory reset! This is ridiculous!
All major firmware updates require the camera to be initialised. Minor updates do not. This is why I offer support with Camera setup files.
Video record your settings or take pictures with your cellphone. I was able to get my settings just like before.
Sony of yesteryear
Frequency of Firmware upgrades may not be Sony's strongpoint but they are still the most innovative company in terms of sensor design and AF systems.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I agree but they are frustrating bat the same time.
Thanks for the video, but I’m not installing this abomination without Pre-Capture or Animal/Bird Eye AF in Video to my A1. This FW update is a slap to the face and an insult to our intelligence. This firmware update provides zero value for A1 owners and it was supposed to arrive in March of 2022
Sorry I can’t help you with your disappointment
@@AlphaCreativeSkillsthis firmware update was supposed to arrive in March of 2022. They only give Focus Breathing Comp...when should of been done in March of 2022, yet they have the a7C (1/16th CPU power) “Animal/Bird Eye AF in Video” in December of 2021 and still refuse to provide that software to A1 & A7Siii owners in May of 2024. What a joke & this is coming from a Sony Pro Member who has $16,000 invested in Stacks and Primes. They cripple you just like Apple does with their “walled garden”. Jailbreak the A1. The AI Chip is a marketing tactic and a lie. There is no physical AI Chip in the A7RV. It is the same Two Chips found in the A1. They probably put binned chips in the A1 and closed off a bunch of the nodes in the A1.
The original announcement said march 2024 or LATER
This firmware is a complete disaster. Many people are getting error messages about the Bluetooth/WiFi unit malfunctioning, even though their cameras worked fine with Imaging Edge and the Bluetooth remote before they updated to v2.01. I spoke with Sony support today and they advised that cameras that have this message have a hardware problem and that the cost of the repair is the responsibility of the customer. Sony has broken functionality that will become increasingly important as more as the Creators app becomes more important and necessary. This is truly outrageous. Installing this app is a roll of the dice. Best way forward may be to sell your existing A1 before updating past 1.32, then buy a new one, which will be guaranteed to work with the new firmware. Try it in the store and get an immediate replacement if defective. Because if you update to v2.01 and your camera is one of those that shipped with defective hardware, you now have a broken camera that you will either have to pay to repair, or sell at a deep discount.
I take it you have no updated your firmware so you are only commenting on what you have read. The message you received from Sony may not be the same one everyone receives as different countries respond differently to cameras malfunctioning outside of the warranty period, e.g., Australia repaired shutters on the A7III cameras that were out of warranty.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Yes, I updated it on Sunday.
