Mavic 2 PRO vs ZOOM Comparison - Which is BETTER for YOU?
I spent the day in the desert flying both the Mavic 2 pro and the Mavic 2 zoom while shooting a documentary project. I wanted to see what I like better and here is my thoughts on which is better for you.

This was the comparison I needed. Ordering the Zoom today. I really enjoy your attention to detail and thoroughness, not to mention saving a few bucks that I can put into the fly more combo. Thank you great job.
Thank you for addressing the extra tools the Zoom gives you! I've done a lot of action videos and being able to fill the frame while keeping a safe distance from my subject is a huge benefit.
I'd like to see more about that container home being built. Very cool.
@jeven - Can you please share with us a link to that documentary project you were making about that container home....
Absolutely. Would love to see more about the house. Looks awesome!
Yeah, did he ever post anything else? I need closure.
@@matt22blaster check out his latest video about the Mavic 2 Air.
That's the best opinion I've heard so far between deciding the two. Thanks, I really appreciate the thought.
Thanks Jeven, enjoyed your honest comparison and feedback. Much appreciated
Thank you!! That was a good, clear, understandable opinion. I appreciate the points you made. I purchased the zoom myself and I’m loving how versatile it is proving to be. The other day while using it, I was able to hover and film a Red Tail hawk while this beauty was perched in a tree, and zoom right in without scaring him off!! That alone to me, was a validation that I picked the right version (in my opinion). Again thank you!!! Cesar.
Definately, zoom is still versatile, you can get more footage at sky, and tell your story, the dynamic range also still work really good.
I would say the Zoom is more bang for buck because the camera on both is very good but the Zoom has the smooth digital zoom.
Excellent video that was really helpful for me as I do my comparisons. Thanks for taking the time to create it. Subscribed!
Informative and detailed. Thanks, this helped a lot making my choice.
Thanks a lot for this comparison mate, good stuff!
Thanks for the great informative video Jeven, I'm grateful for your insights, I'm now confident going with the zoom as I am getting into photogrammetry. Keep up the great work! -Jay
Great advise, thank you for your diligence, Cheers
Thanks for doing a comparison of these two drones.
Thanks for the insight. I'll try out the zoom
Thanks for the review and footage John, I'm in the process of building a container home in Panama
Thank you for helping me decide. I went over this a million times.
So which one did you choose?
Brilliant review you’ve help me make my mind up
Paul Duprey so what did you decide and which one you going for? I am interested cause I don’t know which one to pick yet
Thanks for the video, helped me decide.
Very very helpful my man... Thank you!
I don't comment much but I must say thank you for all your awesome videos. I just got a DJI Spark and your videos helped me learn practically everything about it in a short time.
Helpful vid.thanks
Can u make a video on how to color correct/grade and make the video look cinematic on Mavic 2 zoom pls
Excellent as always very thorough can’t wait for your opinion on the best settings for the mavic Zoom 🚁👍
Great comparison, Jeven.. thx
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to share this. Question: With the zoom, if you were say 20 feet away from your object and you zoomed in fully, would you be able to see detail on something say the size of a quarter? (later on with digital zoom on software)?
Looking at Zoom and needed a solid comparison. Thanks!!!
Great video, no need to check out any other ones. Wanted to see the difference between 2 and zoom. You did awesome thank you
You make great videos. Thanks!
Aw man I can't wait to get my hands on a Mavic Zoom...really gonna up my wedding work, Cheers
Very informative, thanks!
Awesome review Jeven! I like how you balanced the pros and cons of each. I would like to see a dolly zoom demo on the zoom model though. Maybe you can shoot something scary for Halloween 🎃
Ah, this will make me decide to upgrade my spark to zoom Thanks bro 👏👍👊
yesterday i bought the zoom, absolutely no regrets, Mavic 2 zoom + 2 batteries = the price asked for the PRO 2
I’m late but you could’ve went with a factory refurbished pro 2 for cheaper than the pro. No charges on the battery. It’s basically brand new expect they can’t market it as new
@Calius - Very good point !
Nate Sully where can i buy one of those
You get what you pay for
honest and great review bro
Thanks mate, I think I’ll go with the zoom to start with on what I have seen here, good work. Gonna subscribe, I want to check out your film making school. Cheers!
Thanks Jeven for the comparison however I wish you have added nigh shots for both cameras to have complete overview.
Great video, I'm always carrying the Mavic air with me. Now I want a Mavic 2 someday or at least a Mavic pro platinum. Thanks for the awesome video and info.
The mavic air is a toy compare to the mavic pro or mavic 2 serious
this video helped a ton! going with the ZOOM!
Helpful, and great. Video
Great comparison. Just got my DJI Mavic2. Glad I went to the Zoom!
Yeah it’s awesome
Very helpful thanks dude!
Both are great drones but it just depends on the features you need.
Thanx. Would love to see how the house turned out! :-)
Great video Jeven - we're buying a zoom for shooting for TV programmes, as the story is the most important thing for us.
Nice review. Wish you had some more full wide and full zoom examples on the zoom version. Such as zooming in on some street sign or anything with text as an example.
Thanks for the review on both. You sold me on the Zoom & that is the one I'll be getting! In my case, being able to zoom in closer to whales while kayaking in Vancouver Sound as to not disturb them!
Very helpful. I'm not a pro (and never will be). I guess you just convinced me to buy the Zoom.
Well this is about the 6th video of yours I've watched over the last 2 months. Guess I'll subscribe.
Brilliant Video.... Some Amazing Views There...😉 Still don’t no with 1 to get but starting to sway to the Zoom..😎
Great video +Jeven Dovey, love the quality of your presenting camera, which one are you using from your Kit selection? I'm currently shooting presentation shots with my Canon 80D SLR but it just doesn't seem to have the sharpness and clarity of yours!
We need a Mavic with a camera on each end of it so you can swap mid flight :)
Haha that would be great. How about they just make the Pro have a zoom lens and charge a little bit more.
Well that’s just too logical!
It would be cool to have video coming and going. But your idea would likely be cheaper.
Dave Haughs , there's some people on KZhead who are swapping the cameras in just a few minutes. I think if the camera become cheap enough it would be worth it to own both cameras and one drone.
Blue Eye Visuals I completely agree! That is once you can ever just buy the camera and gimble assembly.
I have the Zoom- love it.
Great segment Thank you as it helped me decide on the Zoom. OBTW was that a Honomobo install? Cheers
ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS.
Nice. Very helpful
Awesome! Which would u recommend for a first time flyer for music videos / real estate? Thanks in advance!!
Yes, very well explained and I was extremely doubtful about the zoom, as I have here a pro from a friend who let me use it for 2 weeks solid...;-), but now for what I need to do - I live 6/8 months a year in South Pacific Costa Rica, Pavones, where I want to film daily the surfers and the wild life - I'm definitely going for the Zoom! Thank you!
Thanks for the review, tips and comparisons. Do you have a tutorial on color grading?
Was in Joshua Tree just last week drove through Yucca Valley also. Wish I already had the Mavic 2 Pro when I was there as the desert was in full bloom and the colors were absolutely amazing.
The desert is so alive right now!
your video quality is freaking insane. 30 fps is SOOOO much better than all these fools filming online content at 24 fps.
Great video Jeven! I have the zoom version. Are you shooting with AFC or manual? Keep up the good work.
Thanks you for this video. Could you please share your opinion about which drone makes better videos in the sunsets, Mavic 2 Pro or Mavic 2 Zoom?
Good review. But I wish if you compared the two drones at the same time. You filmed with the zoom mid-day and with the 2 pro during golden hour. I wish if we could see both drones filming at the same time.
Which would you say is better for someone who would use it for family photos and videos. Like family reunions and sledding. And also just having fun and inspecting roof of house.
Thank you!!!!👍🏻👏🏻🙌🏼
Hey there. What camera do you use to record your KZhead video? It's super crisp and love 4K video. Also do you use a daylight kit for videos? Thanks in advance!
Hey Jevon, I'm wanting to get into stock footage and had a question about frame rates. What is the preferred method when uploading higher frame rate stock footage? I shoot a lot of footage at 4k 60 (gives me the ability for real time or slow motion later). Do people typically upload the clip natively in 60? Or do they slow it down for the clip and upload as is? If it's the latter, do you ever upload a version that is normal speed as well? Trying to figure out what the best method for this is. Or even what the common frame rates are.
Great video. Can you get selective/ shallow depth of field with that zoom? I didnt see any in your shots.
I have been using Phantom pro but am going to get a maverick soon . I like the way you have explained the differences in the two units . I have a question for you reference editing software . Do you have a suggestion for tek impaired user for editing programs . I'm using Go pro know but it seems limited
I have Mavic Mini. It's fun. Been flying only 2 months. I am looking at the zoom because of the camera.
Thanks Mr. Dovey👌
Thanks!
I purchased the zoom and so glad I did as the image quality is great and the zoom aspect is a real plus
hey
i want to do both vids and pictures on a drone so will the mavic zoom cut out to be the perfect hybrid for that. But also the fact you can change aperture calls my attention so im still debating.
Great video I think both drones are amazing 👍
I think to fairly compare the cameras, you have to talk about HQ and FOV modes on the Mavic 2 Pro. I want to buy one soon... or should I be waiting for the 3...?
cool keep up
My sense is the Pro is for those who need more flexibility with light conditions (low light) and who like post processing. The 2x zoom of the Zoom, in my mind, can be more than matched with using the "Ken Burns" effect and the greater number of pixels on the Pro. Often in post processing, you can also rethink how you want pan and zoom and crop after the fact. With the Zoom, you need to live with how the shot was captured.
As they are going for image quality, maybe bring out an option to interchange cameras, or put a zoom on the Pro
These cameras aren't really comparable or "which one is best for you" - because we need both in one. Pro cinematic 1" custom aperture hasselblad camera w/ optical zoom
They pulled an apple here to get more sales
@@RidingJapan you are absolutely correct!
Its called Mavic 3 Pro. Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom are just an audience test.
@@RidingJapan I've noticed that DJI has taken a lot of business ideas from Apple
A zoom lens with adjustable aperture for a 1'' sensor would be a lot bigger and heavier. So the drone would need more powerful motors and larger batteries. It would be in a completely different price range and weight class.
Cool Video Jeven, love the post editing grading you've applied, The sharpness on the zoom is fantastic, I'm very much undecided between zoom vs pro, no a professional but would like to invest on an item that will be future proof, acquiring the Pro is not a problem, but don't want to end up regretting should there be an issue with the sharpness. A quick questions, can you achieve the same sharpness on the pro to match or better that of the zoom?, even though its not on d-log.
you can sharpen it yes for sure..the sharpness isnt better on the zoom...it just looks sharper as its a smaller lens doesnt meen its better
Damn the video in your studio is freaking sharp!
Great comparison. You're making total sense to me on this. It's still a bit of a trade off, but I'm glad you brought the post editing aspect into this. That could make or brake your decision here. Darn it, why didn't they just put the two together with the Hasselblad having the zoom also. Probably a marketing decision. At any rate, with all the extra sensors, and everything else. These two drones look like the cat's meow in this genera of drones. Marc Trainor.
A very nice comparison. I think the zoom is better because of its advantage to zoom, a footage can be edited a million ways to make it be how a shooter needs, color issues depend on the settings now, i think i am going for the zoom by 2020..!!
Great vid :). Living in an Area with a lot of prohibited Airspace, I think I'll go for the zoom. Finally: I get that the DJI crowd with more money than sense is so big, it's "logical" to sell 2 versions of the same drone, but seriously, my mid-range cellphone has 3 different 12 MP lenses. ...
Hi great video, which camera do you use and which filter preset do you use? Thanks
Hi Jeven I am a serious amateur photographer and only interested on images. Once both mavics were launched I thought that my option was "no brainer" with mavic 2 Pro but after seeing a lot of video comparisons and the fact that M2Z has the option of high resolution images now I am very confusing what would be the right option for me. I will appreciate your comments and thanks before hand.
Really great comparison! I am looking for upgrading my DJI Spark and is seriously considering the Zoom! When filming in the mountains and rocker climbers it would be super awesome to do this from a distance. Now I have to fly very close. My only second thought is the weight as I am climbing myself and have to keep the drone in my backpack.
Just to follow up! I decided for the Zoom and had it with be to Cogne in Italy for ice climbing a couple of weeks back. Footage looks stunning, and the drone is just super for mountain scenery and to get close to climbers! 😄
Thank you
I like the Zoom over the mavic 2 I love doing nature shots and I don't want to have to be right on top of it and plus I am not a professional it all looks good to me
Im debating on wich one to get. I want to do a lot of nature shots. So would you suggest zoom? For example take video of blue herons nesting. Being we have to keep our distance, wouldnt the zoom be a better way to go?
@@dartfrogpaul3660 of course
@@dartfrogpaul3660 That's my exact situation. I live at water's edge of a bay with nesting birds. Did you get the Zoom model and how is it working for you? Thanks.
Great review. Question for you. I am a real estate photographer and am struggling with the choice between them. The 1” sensor is appealing but so is the option of the zoom. Wouldn’t the super high photo res mode negate the benefit of the 1” sensor for still photos of houses? Also which in your opinion would need less post production for the video? Thanks
Bill Clements Hey Bill do you mind sharing which one of the two you chose and if you’re happy with the option you went with?
Which of the 2 PRO or ZOOM has the best compatable vidoe in AUTO with other cameras like GOPRO or Garmin VIRB? I mean if you dont want to colorgrade too much and just want to blend drone with regular actioncamera vids which one is closest to actioncameras in color and whitebalance?
Amazing video dude. Making me think about that zoom vs pro...ha ha
Nice video!!! Would like to know which camera you are using at your studio, it's amazing!!!
Panasonic GH5
Thanks for this! I think I may get a Zoom.
Earned a sub👍🏽
Zoom arrived yesterday and it's epic much cheaper too!
what lens do use my man ? your video sick
What camera are you using to make this video, very sharp.
Great video does the Zoom shoot 4k ?
What about the 2 Pro shot with 4K HQ? It makes the focal length about 39mm with the digital crop
Hey buddy, a question from a total newbie who has never played around with a drone so apology if some of these questions sounds dumb. Im looking to finally educate myself with these machines for my travel videos. 1. I did not see a video screen on the controller. Correct me if I'm wrong but without a screen, you would fly blind right? You need to see what the camera is capturing. 2. Can you use these drones for hand-videos as well like a gopro? Reason why I ask this is because I won't have to carry a drone and a go-pro during my travel..I can just use the drone for both flying and handmade video shots. 3. Are they waterproof? 4. Is it beginner friendly for people like me? Or is there a steep learning curve to fly these stuff? Thanks in advance for your response.
I have the Zoom and am evaluating it. It seems to me that you are locked in to the aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9, whereas on the Phantom 4 Pro you can select a better variety. I like 3:2 because that is what I use on my DSLR and am able to get that on the 4 Pro. Does anyone know if you also have that flexibility on the Mavic 2 Pro? Thanx!
