  • It delights me to say that until this very moment, I had never heard of Dark Academia before; It certainly amazes me greatly how everytime I watch a new video by Vintagebursche I get to learn something new about style, tailoring and history. Well done Sir, as a university student, I greatly appreciate your interpretation of different departments, and I can perfectly see a partial reflection of myself in the portrayal of the ideal literature scholar (although far from being ideal in my case). Keep it up with your channel, einwandfrei wie immer!

  • I don’t know how much time I heard “I wish I was in that era of history, so I could dress like them” I always respond “Who said you have to be in that era to dress like that ?” They always look at me weirdly, personally I am someone who dress like a pirate, I try being the most historically accurate in my outfits.

    @_-Species-_@_-Species-_2 жыл бұрын
    • I agree with you tbh and I don't find you weird at all, i love how you think🤍

    • Not to mention, most people born in that era didn't dress like that on a daily basis. Even their Sunday clothes probably did not look this well tailored. My grandfather was born in 1920, he was a factory worker, his father and grandfather were miners. The very few pictures I have of them aren't as stylish as what people picture when they think Victorian or Edwardian era.

    • @@ptolemy2222 Because they were factory workers and miners, whereas any middle class professional in the 1920s would have dressed as VB does.

  • This has been one of my pandemic goals... I'm am a research scientist in a university electrical engineering department, and I have been slowly moving my wardrobe in this direction. Most comfortable in dark and earth tones, yes. Prefer to have a more refined look in public, yes. Love learning about the history of everything, yes. Disgusted by academic snobbery, yup. Social awkwardness, absolutely. Writing a book, does my PhD thesis count? However, thus far my lack of tweed is disturbing...

  • This video is absolutely perfect in every way. I love the shift from student to mature professor. As someone in the early stages of building a "light academia" wardrobe (elevator pitch: "if Aziraphale from Good Omens was a 17th century lady, but still wore trousers"), the emphasis on older styles is much appreciated. I love to see your take on this! I wonder what your archaeology professor would look like! If I had one niggling nit to pick, it is that Greek men do not wear togas - at least in the period of their own dominion. Togas are Roman and a mark specifically of Roman citizenship.

  • I really love this. When it comes to aesthetics, it seems like sometimes people can fall into cliches and copying, especially if they aren’t super-confident about their personal style yet (Definitely been there myself, so no shade) . This was a great example of taking the theme/idea and adapting it for oneself.

  • These videos are getting more and more high-production every post. At this point, it feels less like a one thousand subscriber channel and more like a big time music video or something. As a note, I like the break on your trousers. I much prefer little to no break. I find trousers that are a bit short far superior to too long.

What I found interesting was I became familiar with Dark Academia after my stuff shifted more into a magical realistic direction with elements of Gothic Fiction.
