There's a reason are non stop lines at these places - they really are the best. Modern has a unique flavor to the dough that none of the others have but the ingredients all around are top notch- sauce and cheese are second to none - owner is a great dude and time stand still here year after year- the look of the building in and out and the consistency of the pizza, all contribute to why this one is number 1.
I live 28 miles north of New Haven and I've only ever been to Pepe's two times many years ago. I don't go to New Haven that much. A few weeks ago, I went to Grand Apizza in Clinton Connecticut and I think it is owned by a relative who owns Modern Apizza and it was one of the best pizza's I've ever had! My mother is also from Cambridge England. She was born there.
You can *hear* the elegance of crisp tear and crunch of the crust rim and layers of quality just there, and how he is overfilled with emotion about to cry.

Loving this new style of content from New Haven, its not just the food but the history and allowing the owners to showcase how proud they are of their heritage and products, shame you didn't get too much of that from this one compared to the previous two though but they were probably in their peak serving period, also everyone seems so friendly there even the other punters, unlike the miserable lot in Blighty, Those coal fired ovens are something else, can't imagine them being allowed in the UK now though, the carbon footprint, eco warriors kicking off etc Eagerly looking forward to NYC part 2 😎 Keep up the great work guys 👌

Great video, if you ever go back there, Zuppardi’s in West Haven is a must do, especially their sausage and their white clam abeetz.
Disappointing flop
Yes had it for the first time a few weeks ago and thought wow what a shame I’m just finding out about Zuppardi’s now. Love his reviews - definitely love the fact that he’s from the UK - really fun to watch - and how much he’s enjoying himself. Definitely subscribed!

Matt like I said with your first pizza tour here , the N East ( NY - NJ - CONN ) has some of if not the best pizza in the world. You gotta hit my home city Paterson in New Jersey for Patsy’s.

I'm originally from New Haven, Connecticut but live down in Florida now. Can't find any good pizza down here and I have it ordered online from Sally's and modern and there's a lot of other great ones like zoo parties is almost 100 years old and a lot of other ones in the little towns off of New Haven in New Haven county. Best pizza in the world ever. Also bar pizza and one other thing you forgot to try is the first hamburger at louis lunch over 100 years old
The pizza oven should have a rotating stone so when your pizza comes back around to the door it's ready (in an ideal world) 👌💯

Did you guys take the commuter train (MetroNorth)? That's probably the slowest way to go go. The Amtrak Regional train between New York and New Haven is also pretty slow. There's a high speed/express train called the Acela which is faster. If you want to save the most money Megabus or other discount bus lines run between New York and New Haven as well.
Professional tip if you let it cool it gets crispy
Looks fantastic. Loving the New Haven content. I know you are more of a thin crust pizza lover, but I would love to see more reviews of the Chicago style Pizza pies as they are my favourite style personally. Get yourself over that way, it’s only a 12 hour drive 😉

Modern is the best pizza in New Haven hands down, Tipsy Tomato in Derby might be the best in the state though
Fresh outa the bricks, you gotta let that cool before you eat paisan. That way when you pull a slice the cheese won’t fall off. Also when it’s a loaded slice and you have flop, you need to fold and flip. Fold the back in help but flip the tip up. Love your videos. USA loves our coins across the pond. We love you !
