    • I mean...Everyone has access to Google and the release trends of computer hardware are pretty well documented at this point. If you buy a computer part more than 6-8 months after release there will generally be rumours of the next generation 2-3 months later, and then another 2-3 months after that is the next gen announcement. You bought what you want when you needed it, so don't worry about it. Something new is always around the corner.

  • Is the die shrinking from 5 nm to 4nm of TSMC? Is it about 20%? If so, can AMD play with the cache memory (better timing)? How much faster is the whole SoC, if the CPU is about 20% faster itself and the cache memory timing is 2 times beter? Can it be 40%? I think, this is only IPC at about 4.0, or 4.5, or maybe 4.8 GHz. And if it is 2x-40% faster at 4.8 GHz, how much faster is it at lower clockspeeds? 😲 Many-many questions. 😲

    @Theworthsearcher@Theworthsearcher27 күн бұрын
    • I'll try to answer. 1. We don't know if it's die shrunk, but IPC gains are not automatic with die shrinks. Die shrinks give you more "space" (technically the same space but you can fit more into it because your 'wires' are smaller) and thinner 'wires' so you need less power to make them function, but also makes your chip smaller and thus puts the heat closer together so you can't just juice more performance out of your CPU. With that more space you can fit more logic and potentially make the chip faster, but because it's not automatic, to say there's a 20% advantage from a die shrink is wrong. 2. AMD's cache bus, or Infinity Fabric, is locked to RAM speed because it runs at the speed of the memory controller. Because Cache is SRAM, we can expect it to get faster but a lot less than double. Because it's locked to RAM speed, it will still require you to put in faster RAM to run it at a higher clock. Because of this, and the fact that it will run the same RAM as last generation, the fastest RAM in they could have used in the benchmark is 7200MT/s and the fastest Ryzen 7000 supports is 6000MT/s, giving you a 20% faster cache at best. 3. It stays the same regardless of clock speed. IPC is Instructions Per Clock, and 4.8Ghz is a clock speed of 4,800,000,000 times per second. Think of IPC like an invisible multiplier. If my CPU has an average IPC of 2, then on average it is doing two instructions every clock. I can do 9.6 billion operations per second with a 4.8Ghz CPU because 4.8 billion clock speed times two instructions per clock is 9.6bn. I say average not because it changes depending on speed. If it's average is 2, then sometimes it will get a long instruction that might take 4 clocks, and sometimes it will be able to complete 4 instructions in a single clock, but when you average the amount of tasks done per clock you end up with 2. P.S we don't typically give a number for IPC because some instructions are much much more common than others. For example the add command is very very common and a CPU that can add super fast will usually beat a CPU that can do more complex tasks super fast but adds slowly. Because of this IPC expressed as a number would be pretty useless as it would be too affected by uncommon instructions and not affected enough by common ones. Hence benchmarks.

    • I doubt that they will fail (they need the massive performance uplift) otherwise they will lose against Arrow Lake and that can't happen because 9000 series is on a newer architecture and they will improve the cache design. Intel has flaws in their p-e cores cpu architecture design cause the e cores don't support hyperthreading meaning AMD is going to have an edge to win here. But like always Intel is so upset they can't improve their CPU like AMD does so they will increase power-draw and overclock as high as possible to a point where it cause instability issues and right after buying latest Intel's CPU it's gonna start burning up and losing performance due to heat. While as AMD will still be high clocked but not as high as Intel and still have plenty room to overclock/PBO unlike Intel that is already maxed overclocked and has no room to overclock that's the difference between AMD vs Intel (AMD always win with performance per watt, that's a fact btw if you don't believe look at the performance scores vs efficiency (power draw) in load Intel is drawing 70% more power then AMD which is a huge shame and no I'm not a fan boy I own an i7 3770K and I will upgrade to 9950X3D.

Intel should be able to match AMD by the end of it.

Didnt like it at all and went bak to w10 and i was responsive and way faster. The thing I don't like about Intel is the weak cores taking up space while giving you few performance cores. While AMD gives you full performance cores and also use less energy. Now intel next gen, is interesting that it won't be hypertreading. I am curious about it. But with intel it doesn't seem that bad, isn;t it? but intel huge need of electricity turns me down and the fact that its processors arent full performance ones. but weak and full power. I want ALL my cores to be performnace so I'd run simulations smoothly. Also temps in my 3950x were 75 degrees for over 80 hours of simulation non stop. • I'm glad I'm waiting with buying a new system. Once a 7 a 8 years I buy a high-end system (I change almost everything then), each time the price increases substantially. The Asus 4090 as a example cost here; 2300 Euro. That's around 40-45% of the case cost on paper (5200 Euro), but a waste of money due to the upcoming hardware. Although I can see scalpers buying the 5090's, and shops increasing prices again to match them. A 5090 (which I'm going for on paper, for now) could set me back 2500 Euro+ potentially (which will increase system costs). Pure insanity. Hw is unnecessarily expensive in the NED compare to the states. We have a 21% vat, and even then they put a lot on top of that. A example; the new Asus QD Oled 32 inch monitor is 1500 (1600 USD) Euro here. And this price is not included in the system costs. I think people should only be allowed to buy one certain piece of hardware at the time. Sounds weird, but scalpers buy everything nowadays. Graphics cards, consoles, phones etc. I seen shops raising the prices to match them. So I think I will wait. After so long saving, a few more months doesn't matter. Maybe the X3D will be available then, or the AMD graphics card is like 1K less then Nvidia, but as fast as the 5090. I really hope so. because no matter if you saved money for it or not .. prices like I mentioned are not normal. On the other hand; 7 years ago I bough 3 SSD's for 1200 Euro. That's much cheaper these days. We will see. 😉

If reworking an architecture and increasing the process from 7nm to 5nm resulted in just a 15% ipc uplift(and 20-25% performance uplift), then there is no way in hell that no transistor change on the basic zen architecture results in even CLOSE to a 40% IPC uplift. Those levels were only seem from zen 1 over bulldozer, and ONLY because bulldozer sucked badly and Zen 1 was fundamentally new. I predict in reality, the IPC uplift would be around 15-20% at maximum, which single threaded being around 25-30%(maybe 35% or 40% maximum in some scenarios). It's just RedGamingTech spreading these false rumours from untrustworthy sources, while AMD themselves haven't even said anything regarding performance. Mind you that intel is going from 10nm RLR to TSMC 3nm ARL, completely changing the architecture and CPU design by going tile based, and even then will probably deliver around a 15-20% IPC uplift(which is already really impressive), and a 35% improvement in performance atmost.

Basically what Intel has with P and E cores but on AMD's side it's build in within their CPU instead of e and p cores AMD is doing this with threads (each core has two threads) and one of them is focused on performance while other is focusing on efficiency (background applications). Since AMD's cache system is better I believe AMD has slightly the edge to win from Intel because Arrow Lake may go crazy with higher clocks and draw more power (like usual). But that's why Ryzen 9000 series releases before Arrow Lake cause once 9000 series is out Intel will release Arrow Lake and once that is out AMD will beat them with their 9000 X3D.
