    • Panama Canal draws water from a fresh-water lake. No water drawn from Atlantic or Pacific oceans, so far.

    • Because the Panama canal goes up to an elevation of 85 feet. It is not a through flow canal.

  • Now here is a problem. We came through it in January and the lake is full. They recycle 60% of the operational water. I didn’t see a problem.

    • In the beginning of January 2024 Gatun Lake was 81.7' above sea level, at the end of January it was 81.2'. The normal level at that time of the Lake should be above 87'. January is the normal beginning of the Dry Season, however the rains all but stopped 2 months earlier. For all practical purposes only the new locks completed in 2016 have water saving basins which allow water to be reused before being lost to sea. The new locks while larger than the original locks can use slightly less water than the original locks when the water saving basins are used. At normal traffic levels the new locks will accommodate 8-10 ships/day and the original locks about 28-30 ships/day. 52 million gallons of fresh water from Gatun Lake are used for every transit at the original locks.

  • Hmm? Water levels dropping? How come the news tells us water levels are rising?

  • Here's a thought put in a series of giant water tanks using a pipeline to fill them and, over time, make it to them being the sole supplier of water for the locks.

  • How can the Panama Canal be drying up when it is between 2-oceans. I would think that water could be let in the canal from either body of water...???

    • Because it is not a sea level through canal like the Suez canal, the Panama canal actuall goes up to 85 feet elevation.

  • Problem solved: Turn fresh water lake into salt water lake, pump salt water from Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea into the lake to provide water for locks.

  • Why don't they just pump sea water into the lake?

  • This is the problem with stupid political figures, most of them never worked a day in their life, never got their hands dirty!

  • It took 50,000 men and women to build this canal but 27,609 people died building this. Imagine going to work knowing that the chance of you dying is over 50%, you have a much better chance playing Russian Roulette 🤔

  • None of their BS adds up. Look at minute mark 7:03. There are structures like this world wide. They were not built with horses and carts, and we can’t replicate this today. This world is false.

  • There's no water shortage. EVERY mariner wants a shorter road to go home. ADD 1000 to the cost of the transit and use that to invest in PUMPING FACILITIES based on natural gas. PUMP SEA WATER TO THE LAKE and allow it to gravity feed the water back into the canal. Let Pananma get drinking and agricultural water elsewhere. The value of the canal is greater than the water purchased from outside.

    • How about we not contaminate Gatun Lake with sea water?

  • So why doesn't the united states build a new canal in nicaragua

    @dannytrujillo5435@dannytrujillo543513 күн бұрын
    • Maybe, because it is Nicaragua would face the same issues and it would be way more expensive.
