Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier was a fantastic fight that ended in a swift submission, but how did Oliveira set the body lock up? Why was Dustin so eager for the knockout? Where do they go from here?

Lmao, that's one area he'll never improve in. He is a former Amateur Muay Thai competitor and has over 40 MMA fights, so if he's not "comfortable" with head movement by now, I doubt he'll ever be. But hey, ever since he got a new coach he has been looking better and better as a fighter overall, so anything is possible. Yeah, his striking defence isn't the best, but he is very well rounded, especially for a submission specialist, and he knows what to do against someone like Dustin. Very few people have beaten Poirier at lightweight. Michael Johnson back when MJ was a serious fighter and before Dustin made all his boxing improvements, Khabib, and now Oliveira. He did so by keeping his hands out and using them to chop away Oliveira's clinch attempts, and he was successful for a moment, but this disrupted his flow and affected the amount of power he was able to load up. • To those complaining about the glove grab, are we gonna disqualify every fighter who does minor infraction of the rules? If that is the case, every eye pokes should end the fight as the other fighter gained an unfair advantage. Groin shots? Nope that is an advantage, fight must end now because it is unfair. Ohh accidental headbut? Nah man that is unfair to the other fighter so DQ. UFC used to be "There is only one rule, there is no rules!" Herb was there, and he did not see it. It was not significant enough to be called. Why do we want to cuddle fighters instead of letting them bang? What then if Charles got DQ? All of MMA would complain that Dustin is just a paper champion, and he did not won the fight, like what happened in the Sterling vs Yann fight.

  • A few things with the grappling werent accurate in this breakdown. Firstly we can’t really tell if his fingers were in the gloves or not. He could have just been grabbing the wrist. You’d be surprised how hard it is to pull your arm out of triangles and omaplatas against jiu jitsu guys as there legs are also really tight around your arm. Also Dustin didn’t just randomly decide to roll over. Charles forced him to by putting pressure on his shoulder (through the omoplata). He didn’t really have a choice so its more of a sweep really.

    • @@r6201sk Fighters are willing to fight through eye pokes and groin shots. It does not seem like Charles grabbed the gloved intentionally, as there was not much arm there to grab (he had his legs squeezing Dustin's arm). Herb did not call it. There are rules, but it is still cage fighting. In the heat of the fight during a scramble, Charles was grabbing what he could of that arm.

  • Getting locked down in guard off the glove grab drained Dustin… Seemed like Charles’ determination was super human… With who Dustin has already fought and the way division is stacked… to get back to another shot looks daunting…. (Islam,Dariush,etc.) Charles stole all the shine with that performance… Damn he’s dangerous!

  • I have heard people say that heart is like KO power some people have it and some do not, it can be improved but not created; I am not sure if I fully agree with this notion but Charles' current makes think that a good deal of his previous issues were mostly related to that horrendous weight cut he had to make to be at 145, whatever the case no one can say he is a quitter, what a career has had, 11 years fighting some of the best fighters of two very deep divisions.

    • He had a bad case of arthritis when he was younger. You can still see the effects of it on his body (his calf’s to be more specific). He was halfway paralyzed from the Max fight at featherweight due to those health issues. But there’s no denying he’s overcome that physical disadvantage. And the lower weight cut has def helped him tremendously

  • I thought Dustin was too one-dimensional on his attacks. He didn't even utilize leg kicks or mix it up, this in my opinion ultimately cost him the fight since he became so predictable. Oliveira vs Justin would be very interesting, as Justin has the defensive wrestling and the variety of strikes to keep the fight diverse in terms of attacks.

  • Great breakdown and analysis i love watchimg these it really shows you each technique and the reason for using it. Dustin could comback and get the win weve seen him do it before but charles is definetly a worthy champ who deserves it. 💪🙌Great fight. 2 great fighters. I think if these fought ten times it would be different result every time. Charles technique is so nice to watch he is like a wizard in there. He just glides about, his shots are straight down the pipe. feet always under him, High tight gaurd, and pulls his gaurd back right after shots and in combinations, beautiful shot selection, always in control of his own thoughts and doesnt do anything out of panic, He causes guys to panic because they cant fall back on anything because hes so well rounded and they do what he doesnt and they act unordinary, Probably one of my favourite champs ive seen throughout history not one weakness.

  • I think taking that money fight on Conor is a mistake on Dustin's part. He should've just went on to the title early he probably be a champion right now and then went to Conor's money fights after so that way he wouldn't worry chasing the title sine

    @anakenryzenabad529@anakenryzenabad5292 жыл бұрын
    • But whose to say Conor would've still been around to fight Dustin again? Exactly Conor could've fought som1 else lost or took another hiatus. That's why he took the Conor fight again for that reason. There's no guarantee that he would've fought Conor again. He might've not gotten another chance to do so and Conor's star power is going down each time he loses. So him skipping the trilogy would've been a dumb idea financially.

      @andrewvazquez1936@andrewvazquez19362 жыл бұрын
    • He got 2 money fights with Conor, and also has the 3rd one secure in the bag that they can pull that out any time in future. Also, fighting with Oliviera back then didn't guarantee he would win too, so, I would say it's not really a mistake if his first priority was the money.

      @vitzveer@vitzveer2 жыл бұрын
    • He actually only got 1 money fight. The first fight against Conor didn't bring him any more money than he normally gets because he did not have the leverage to negotiate for it. Conor saying that fighting him is a red panty night only applies to champions and people under altered special contracts. You need to get a piece of that PPV pie if you wanna make it a real money fight. So the 2nd fight was about legacy and the 3rd was about money.

  • Great breakdown man, too bad you can't send your videos to these fighter's trainers it seems like they could use them sometimes! I wanted Dustin to win this fight but I knew Charles would beat him, styles make fights and Charles jujitsu was too much for Dustin just as I suspected. I do think Justin has the best shot out of all of the lightweights at beating Charles but I think I still give the slight edge to Charles in that one too, he's really found his fight rhythm!
