What's it COST to race a 12,000hp TOP FUEL DRAGSTER?

We had the pleasure of not only watching these 11,000-12,000HP monsters tear down the track, but we got to watch Clay Millican and his team put in all the effort to make this car WORK! Witnessing all the work and care this team puts into this car for 3.7 seconds of glory is a beautiful thing! We hope you all enjoy this as much as we did!

  • About 20+ years ago, my Dad had a couple of opportunities to meet Clay at Grand Bend Dragway... The first time, he gave him a Piston rod... A couple years later, Clay gave my dad a tour of the trailer and when dad asked for a piston for the rod, Clay didn't have one... Instead he mailed one at his cost. An absolute gentleman and professional. We lost Dad 5 years ago, but he so appreciated Clay's kindness. Cheers for this great insight 1320!!

    • Yeah, I try to sit around section D or E so they can accelerate. A girl I was dating had been to local tracks before, and when I was explaining how louder Top Fuel was she was acting like it was no different. We were in the stands while the Top Fuels were in the pits, when one of them that was idling all of a sudden gave it that little throttle tap. Man you should've seen her face from that little tap of the gas. Well, I told her that tradition is that for your first time you have to have your ear plugs out for the first pass. People around me just started grinning. She was talking to me and wasn't paying attention to the start. Man when that light turned green, she dropped her hamburger and drink to cover her ears. Her reaction and look was priceless. Everyone around died laughing. Tears came out of her eyes and her hands were shaking. She couldn't believe what she just experienced. Well, she's been an NHRA fan every since. Going to miss going to Atlanta Dragway every year. Can't believe that closed that track...smh.

  • Fascinating interviewer. The questions were always on point and so humanly-interesting and positive. Such a really likable owner and team. Good luck to them. Thanks 1320. Who would have guessed at the complexity? Sailors say the sport of yachting is like 'standing under a shower burning money.' Running a top fuel dragster must be like 'sitting on a bomb burning money.' Their commitment and investment is simply stunning. Respect. Thanks mate. Australia.

  • This was such a great video to get some insight to what it takes for a top fuel team. Absolutely love that feeling when the tree drops and they stamp on the go pedal. Nothing beats top fuel. Really refreshing to see a driver like Clay to be so humble and appreciate what he gets to do for a job. Awesome work guys.

  • I was privileged to get to stand by the Christmas tree at a NHRA event when our company sponsored a top fueler. It was insane. Like standing in a super-heated tornado with my eyes vibrating so hard I could not see for the first 2 seconds.

    • Lol isn't it nuts? Even in the stands when the Top Fuel cars roar past, you almost can not breath cause the air has so much vibration in it

    • @Z Family... I worked as a “part time” (vacancy fill-in) crew member on a T/F team in the early 80s. What I always found amazing being on the starting line was how easy it was to lose a shoe on that tacky track surface...!

    • @@ericzaddock a little fun fact for you... During pit warmups and startups after round tear downs, that white smoke that fills the air isn’t oil/nitromethane mix... Nope... What it is, is residuals from burnt nitromethane, which chemists refer to as Nitric Acid... That’s what makes eyes burn and noses run...!!!

  • Just went to my first race this last weekend. April 24th...2022 at the Houston Raceway Park, the Spring Nationals. And I'm 75+ y/o disabled Marine. What a blast the wife and I had. That first nitro run was scary folks. Can't describe..ya gotta experience the power these engines have. My hat goes off to the teams that make these events happen. Unfortunately Houston's Race Park had it's last race there after 35 years. I could tell the commentators and the fans had a big lump in there throats when the commentators announced the Farewell speech. It was a great fans and the track will be missed for a long while. Clay, thanx for the video, thanx to the owner and the team that makes this all worth while. God Bless and Stay Safe all of you. 77563

  • You're awesome Clay Millican! My buds and I were at Huntsville, Alabama when you won the $101,000 Top Fuel Shoot Out way back when. That's the only time we were blessed to be 20' away from a Top Fuel Dragster when it left the starting line. I was trippen because there were hardly any spectators!?!? What an experience that was and it's on our bucket list to hopefully experience again one day! 1320 Video is an AWESOME You Tube channel. Thank you guys for taking the time to let 1320 video and do a spread on what it takes to keep Top Fuel alive and competitive!!

  • Clay Millican is easily my favorite driver! He's such a down to earth, good at heart guy! He's got a youtube, and he loves what he does and he loves to share every thing about what he does and what goes into it! Not many teams or drivers do this, Clay is a chill racer and he has all my respect. Glad I got to see him race one last time in my home state AZ. Sad to see NHRA go away :( But I'll still see y'all in Vegas or Cali!

Everyone is different of course, and for me I will watch this type of coverage over Street racing etc. Your behind the scenes coverage in an earlier vid was also great. In this, Clay comes across as a lovely guy, the team are great and motivated, I like how being a sort of low budget team can achieve great results. Well done to both the race team and also to 1320 Video. Keep it up. Drag racing really needs all the support it can get.
