Being a mermaid is about so much more than just swimming in a mermaid tail, it is a way of life. It is a journey of discovering who you are and who your are meant to be and of sharing a passion for the water with others and forging friendships that will last a life time. It is about believing in yourself through the thick and thin and encouraging others to do the same.
Being a mermaid is about keeping that little spark alive, that little spark that reminds us that anything is possible with a monofin, some fabric and dream.
Welcome to the Vancouver Mermaid Pod!
I used to be terrified of flips because I thought I would break my neck or something. The first time I ever did a flip was in water and it really helped me!! These videos are so good for people who need help with mermaiding
Gotta say, The braids are phenomenal looking, Courtney
I think it is great how you mention your limitations( ie: arm, back mobility, etc.)because it shows that you are not letting those stop you, but rather, have learned to adapt and keep going. Brava Courtney for setting the example to keep swimming no matter what! 😊💙
YES A HOW TO SINK VIDEO! I know from scuba diving that breath controls your buoyancy, less air in the lungs, you sink... but how am I swimming across the pool on one breath without floating??????? Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaalp! About to put my dive belt on...
Teanna Byerts I had a problem with that a first too. I just put my hands in front of me and dolphin kick while aiming towards the bottom of the pool. Then once you get to where you want to be just position your body horizontal and begin swimming forward.
Another thing we do in diving is wear a weight belt. If you can hide it somewhere, try to add a tiny bit of weight. Not too much, because that's dangerous, but a tiny bit might help you with sinking. That, and holding your breath is a skill, increasing your lung capacity, or even hyperventilating if you can do it safely, help.
As a fellow mermaid with autoimmune/arthritic issues, I absolutely love your videos. You’re also a fantastic mermaid!!
9:06 omg yes same but I have Problems with back AND Front Flips 😩😂
"Always be yourself unless you can be a mermaid then always be a mermaid." "Dream Big! Be a mermaid and make waves."🌊
I got bored and started watching mermaid tutorials. Hi :)
The more I'm watching the more I'm loving your videos I'm making my own tail now out of an old spiderman costume its very strechy and light weight (im also broke so it was cheap to try for my first try) I'm halfway through it I'd love to send you pictures when its done you inspire me so much there arent any mermaid classes near me in east TN so your videos are so helpful hopefully by this summer I'll have my tail done and get to try it out in the water
I am not going to say all my old stretch pants are safe from getting cut up this summer, just hope they can get sewn up the right way since I don't have a lot of swim pants. 👉 so mad props for actually trying it. Do you have a monofin you are trying to fit it with?
Didn't realize this was from back in 2020, if you are rewatching would love an update about how it went. Also trying this in an area that doesn't have mermaids, old landbound SE TX lol
I enjoyed the tricks and tips - beautiful visuals, and clear explanations about them too. Happy Swimming to you and your pod.
Your daughter is an exceptional (and exceptionally-talented) person, Mrs. P. You've obviously done a terrific job with her and given her all kinds of wisdom and freedom to grow. Thank you for being a great parent and a great friend to Courtney!
@@musicadamcooke Thank you for your kind words.
You're very welcome, Jenny. I've taken a look at your blog and I'm really enjoying it. Here's mine, if you'd like to check it out: www.canadathroughmyeye.com
I am so glad that this video exists
This was a wonderful video to begin with, Courtney - very helpful and informative, and some great demonstrations from you and Mermaid Kim. But I also really enjoyed hanging out with you and mers from around the world during the premiere earlier today. Thank you for encouraging this kind of conversation within the community - it means a lot to me to hear your stories and share these moments with others. Have a wonderful weekend and keep up the great work!
I just found your channel and wanted to say that you have an awesome way of telling stories and explaining stuff. With all your "sound effects", it's amazing to listen to you! Keep up the amazing work
I find front flips easy but I need help with the back flip so thanks for sharing this video 🙂
Thank you for sharing your story and how to. I'm a NEW Mermaid and happy I found your videos awhile back. You have helped me. The Bubble Rings thank you for that cause had someone tell me the same thing about the Bubbls with tongue out,I was literally thinking the same thing when you said that. So thank you for showing me a better way of how to do it. Also Shello from Jacksonville, FL!! 🏝🌊🌊🌊
I already knew how to do all of these, but it was fun to see the vid!
Courtney you are just the best, I am still a beginner and all of your videos help out other mermaids with all mermaid things. I am defintially your 1# fan. You deserve a trophy for how Mermazing you are 🥇🏆
I've so been looking forward to you doing a mermaid tricks video! So excited. 😁
You have helped me so much, courtney mermaid!
Awesome video! The wall turn is new to me and I'm excited to try it in the summer! On the bubble rings. I live by the tongue method because I learned them side by side with my physicist partner who taught me the science behind the phenomenon of bubble rings and it made so much sense. My bubbles comes out so much clearer and more together and they go so so much further in the water. I'm glad they work well for you without the tongue. I would rather not use it and had to work around not making it look silly but I guess we are all different haha
Absolutely LOVE you and your videos! Thank you for the tips! xx
I just started learning how to swim like a mermaid (I don't have a monofin I just act like my ankles are duct taped together) but I definitely look forward to learning these
Same!
AGH! I want a mermaid tail so bad ;-;
Go to fin fun mermaid tails and they are good for beginners.
ERMEGARD I have such long hair, thank you for the tying back tip! I always feel like it has to be down to look all mermaid pretty but it covers my face and eyes so badly sometimes! Thank you!
Great explanations and you look SO graceful underwater! But I shouldn't have watched this video during lockdown when I can't go to the pool and practice my mermaid moves :-(
This is so healpful, thank you. I would definitly watch a video on how to sink properly. I have so much trouble with that.
One of my favourite Trick to do is the 8. So basically a backflip, a frontflip and again a backflip
Ok so im on a swim team and im a advanced swimmer i have a atlantis mermaid tail and i saw this vid as noticed that thats my swimteams swim suit and the fact that it is.amazed me and you really inspired me to be more happier when im swimming and doing tricks❤
Tysm! I just got a new silicone tail!!!!! I customized it myself 🤩
What'd you do to it?
This is helpful, I already knew ho to do them but for girls and women just learning.❤❤
I love this video. I was going to ask you how to do back flips and then you posted this video. I recently tried doing a back flip and I ended up just splashing about ( I looked like a fish out of water...Only I was in the water). lol. I tried like 6 times and I failed all 6 times. I will try what you said to do. Thank you so much!
First time I did a front flip was kinda weird but successful. I was swimming towards the other end of the pool and halfway I just thought, "Wonder if I can front flip?" and before I could even think or second guess myself I flung my head down and rotated my arms. Somehow I ended up doing it correctly. Now I'm not successful every time, once I didn't have enough momentum and flopped sideways, but just trying and not psyching yourself out is the first hurdle.
I love backflips and frontflips as a mermaid I am good at front flips as a mermaid
My mom actually wrote the manual for this in 1988 she was a water ballerina and was very familiar with Weeki Wachee training. She’s the one that trained me
How do u sink properly
love your vids ❤by the way what kind of monofin is that? I love it a lot and I wanna learn those tricks too hope you comment back my question
every time i try a backflip i get extremely lightheaded. could be the dysautonomia. is this something that will go away with practice? currently i just suck it up, but it's unpleasant.
Thank you 😘❤️❤️❤️
How do you do bubble rings without getting water up your nose? I haven’t figured out a solution for that yet
Suffer. It's what I do!
Nerdmaid Faith lol thanks faith😆 so helpful
Use a sinus saver
Noseclip.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels like they don’t need to stick out their tongues for bubble rings!! I’m never tried bubble rings with a tail (yet) but I learned how to do them as a kid.
And thanks for the tips
Omg thanks
Lol 😂 me to I do my bubble rings like you!
i can do the flips easy because i was a cheerleader and a dancer, but the water always fills up my ears 😂😭 and im very prone to infections/swimmers ear lol, so theres that learning curve
I actually find the front flip easy... you're rowing with your arms as you roll forward....

When i did my lifeguard training, I was trying to impress my classmates with my backflips..Yea they will never know i actually hit the back of my head that one time :) no spinal injury though!
you look fabulous
Front flips are easier than backflips for me
I’m bad at front flips I’m bad at all flips 😢 🧜🏼♀️
I'm very good at multipul front flips in the water, my record is 11. But that's without fins, so it is easier to rotate.
Still gorgeous Courtney~!
Lol that’s funny I can do 5 flips in a row but after I gasp for are and get so dizzy
Wait what? I'm not a mermaid and i always do front flips. In row as well. It's just fun and really easy for me
I love it i mean i know how to blow bubble rings
U look so pretty today
Lol. I don’t have mermaid hair problems cuz my hair is pixie short. Lol
Me too! Snap!
I've always been able to do bubble rings and idk how I learned lol
Didn't see Mermaid Echos link, maybe I missed it. And I don't think you're missing out on much with front flips. Out of the water, in like gymnastics or dance, sure they look awesome but in my opinion front flips in the water look awkward and not very graceful. I'd stick to other tricks like the back flips, bubble rings/ hearts, barrel/torpedo rolls and fin slaps. But that's just my opinion. 🧜♀️💦💜
You’ve mentioned before that you did synchro, maybe you should teach the others oyster.
Love that
I still can't do a flip front or back 😅
If somebody asks me if my tail is real, what should I say? do I say yes, no or avoid it?
If you're a real mermaid then avoid it, and if you're not then tell the truth, that it is fake.😄
Please teach us how to swim as graceful as a mermaid. When I try to swim like a mermaid I look like a floppy kraken.
I have so much trouble with the back flip 😭😭😭😭
I have to be in a handstand and let myself fall over for a frontflip
Its possible to do backflips with a monofin without using arms, but it's not easy...
Hi! Do you have any videos of you doing that? :) Would be awesome to watch and learn ❤️
I can do a front flip very very easily, but a backflip is very scary as I can't see where I'm going.
front flips easy... back flips....uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I can’t do the flips because it hurts my ears 🥲
Do you have fibromyalgia?
