[iPHONE 15 PRO MAX - IF I SWITCHED]
They won’t make it mini, they won’t make it fold, and they still won’t make that logo glow without some hardcore hackery … but survey says that most of you don’t care one bit: you’re gonna keep buying iPhones no matter what Apple doesn’t do to it.
As you probably know, that’s not me - as Data says, “I am an Android.” And I promise, I’m not gonna draw this out into a season-long “will he/won’t he” string of engagement bait episodes. The iPhone doesn’t fold, and I’m all-in on foldables. That’s that.
But even die-hard Droids have to deal with the data: the iPhone just keeps gaining momentum, at home and abroad. And after a week with the 15 Pro and Pro Max, I’ve found five features that would make the transition even easier - if I switched.

  • [CLARIFICATION] This is not my full review, folks! I know it has many of the hallmarks of one, but I haven't yet had time to get a good handle on things like battery life, call quality, etc (and I'm having a lot of fun testing the new Voice Isolation feature). So if you're writing to say that I forgot something - that's because it's not a review. Stay tuned! 🙏

    • Can't remember if you touch on this in your other reviews, but could you specifically talk about how true to life the photos are when comparing them? Like which ones overblow the colours or are too dark in certain areas. The photos you take are great and varied so well compared to some other reviewers' photos that I see. You's make for great references when determining which phone's camera I prefer. It could also just be they are closer to pictures I'd want to take, but not sure. Really considering switching to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, my first iPhone since the iPhone 4S so apologies if I'm being a bit overzealous in asking for this.

    • I think one thing missed here is why in the US Apple is becoming a monopoly (I'm not so sure there's really a competition going on since then you would have seen riskier moves). Vast majority of people are not shopping around or even watch tech reviews. They just buy what family and friends have and Apple does everything to keep their system closed as much as possible to any other brands. Second branding, no one is waiting hours in line for a new model, but they did again for this phone.

    • It is a rare industry that after 15 years is still innovative. What else can we shove into a candy bar phone? It’s a mature market and the sea change of foldable has not yet gained traction to make it rise above a niche market versus the 1.4 billion candy bar phones sold worldwide yearly. I do not expect it ever will as it will mature much faster than candy bar phones despite Samsung holding out to draw out the process.

    • It's even deeper than that. You can chain multiple actions together from across a variety of apps (including third party ones), like instantly take a photo, crop it to a square, and email it to a friend. Or turn on dark mode, open Netflix on your Apple TV, turn off your smart lights, set your phone to silent, and send a WhatsApp to a friend that you're ready to start the movie. You can include "if, then, otherwise" functions that change what the shortcut does based on the time of day, your location, which focus mode you have on, the volume of your phone, or any other number of factors. You can even go as far as writing snippets of code to run.

Still hate the crease. I don’t know how apple would solve that tbh. That’s what I like about them because they are concerned about things like that. When “bezel to bezel” screens became a thing for android, I hated the “chin.” When apple came up with their version of the full display with the iphone X, I looooved that they went with the symmetrical bezels all around by engineering a folded bottom panel. The “chin” still exists on mid to cheap androids to this day. That’s why I love the nothing phones over any foldable because of their attention to detail as well.

  • I think for cameras these days, edge case and consistency are the main thing to look for. Yes, all phones have great night mode and often also have large sensors to handle bad light without night mode. But there sort of isn't any phone today that will snap a fairly non blurry photo of a kid or pet in a dimly lit room. You need to go manual, control shutter speed and balance ISO to get a good picture. For me I still remember my Moto G which took horrible pictures but I still remember it as the fastest phone to handle exposure/shutter speed on, almost, auto. And with RAW and log creeping in as features, these will to separate great phones from good phones.

  • One feature that would be cool to have reviewed is the microphone, see, sometimes I like to record rehearsals or parts of concerts, and most microphones would saturate sound and maybe you'll get a video with senseless noise on it, I would love to see which phones are the best on this issue, recording live events, for parties, weddings, concerts, stuff like that, crowded and with a lot of background noise, what options could be the best? thanks for your content, Michael, I learn a lot by watching your videos!

    • Oh definitely! There's actually a new voice isolation mode that I've been testing. This isn't the full review (lots of confusion about this due to my headline I think) so I'll try to call out the mic when I get around to the next iPhone video.

      @TheMrMobile@TheMrMobile8 ай бұрын
    • Unless they somehow slid backward, iPhone mics have been really good at avoiding peaking or over-saturating for quite a while. Not that I’ve recorded entire concerts, but short video clips of them sound just fine from iPhone where they distorted on my older Androids like Pixel 3. (Even when at the front, by the stage and speakers.) Not sure what the secret sauce is, I’m pretty sure Android uses floating point audio just like iPhone (saw a Google lecture about implementing it in Android over a decade ago anyway) so presumably that’s not the only thing.

Android just treats me better lol. I have full control over my device and there are no silly limitations that are frankly insulting to my intelligence. On top of that, and this is a big one, the android community is not as snobby and privileged as the iPhone community.
