Tamron Z Series 25-78mm on the Nikon Z5 Astro time lapse

The Tamron Z series 25-78mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 on the Nikon Z5, creates a very creative time lapse. This time lapse was taken in the worst light pollution you could find. Burleigh/Miami Hill has erected the most horrendous and bright floodlights that remain on till past 1am. Very disappointing, but regardless the storm, which was 200km away created an epic backdrop for what unfolded next.
I'll be reviewing the lens in proper very shortly.

    • I love a good time lapse. Was researching today the best mirrorless to use to shoot Astro time lapses. Any ideas?

    • @@RalphMayhewPhotography since the end result is generally processed through a video from photos, there’s very little difference a camera will make. Anything over 21mp will give you enough quality for good 4K. For Astro it’s all about the glass you use. If you need a good way to create the Timelapse it self, I would go with LRtimelapse.

    • Yeah that’s all true my frustration with the Nikon Is the limitations of the interverlometer in the camera. To set it up correctly you still need a 1.5 second gap between exposures which is SUPER FRUSTRATING at times and seems like an archaic limitation they need to deal with.

    • @@RalphMayhewPhotography check out qDslrdashboard. I actually bought a MC-36A second hand to manage the intervals and use qDSLR dashboard to manage settings while the camera is shooting to prevent any movement.

  • Can you please do a video of whether to switch from the Nikon D750 to the Z5 and if I should just maybe spend the extra money and go for a Z6 ii? I cureently own 2 D750s as my cameras and I want to upgrade to the Z5 but realistically replacing my bodies in the UK would cost me a few hundred pounds on top of the D750 sale price, aswell as buying the Ftz adapter as I would most likely be using the same lenses as I can't really justify using the Z lenses. I just really want to try the mirrorless equipment but worry that it will be a mistake if I upgrade. Would love a video from you comparing both the D750 and Z5 and whether it's worth the upgrade for better video and lens stabilization. I also occasionally get mirror slap in my photos which leads to a tiny bit of motion blur even at high shutter speeds and it does my head in. Thanks, love your channel!

    • Hey Matthew. If I had a D750 then I’d be convinced from your post to do the vid. In the meantime this is how I look at it. Mirrorless is the future and eventually DSLRs and the equivalent lenses will be as film gear is now (only not as cool haha). I have loved mirrorless. It’s easier to use meaning you can get better results because you can see exactly what you get when you set the shot up. They’re faster, sleeker, smaller and with firmware updates can do cooler and cooler things. If you can afford the Z6ii do that for sure. If not the z5 is a great option. Have you got a friend you can borrow a mirrorless from to have a play?

    • @@RalphMayhewPhotography Thank you for the reply Ralph I really appreciate it and all very good points my friend! Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a mirrorless camera as they are still quite expensive things considering that you can get a Nikon D750 in this country for around £300 - £350 second hand. I think I will rent one from a camera shop at some point, problem is again it's the camera aswell as the ftz adapter I would need to be renting so it becomes a bit more pricey but it's probably worth renting the camera before going full on mirrorless incase I don't like it. I can't see why I wouldn't like it though as it seems like an amazing upgrade. I love your videos on the Nikon Z5 and your videos have really shown me what an amazing camera it is so thank you for that and I will almost certainly be going for the Z5 over the other cameras due to it being very very close to the Z6 in real world testing aswell as the 2 card slots as I am never in a situation where losing my photos wouldn't absolutely kill me. I travel around the world a lot and if I came back to find all my photos have gone I'd be gutted!
