How to train the slap strike in the Pekiti-Tirsia system. There should be a progression of steps in your training to equally develop power, timing and accuracy. I often use this drill to teach slap to groups I won't have much training time with, such as LEO & military groups. The slap is especially useful for groups that use a firearm as their main weapon, since it is much less likely to result in a hand injury than using a punch, (in the 1990s the NYPD's reported that 20-25% of injuries during assault on officer cases included a broken right hand of the officer). In my martial arts classes, slap training would also include many hours of hard contact drills with rattan sticks (which I call "Filipino iron palm training."), plus many hours of hitting focus mitts. There are several videos on this subject in my Knife Training playlist.
TuhonBillMcg I know.. I’ve watched them all but because you’re such a diligent martial artist who seems to constantly evolve his methods I’d be keen to see your current approach to the same problems 😊
Ótimo video. Lembra um pouco o striking da Capoeira Regional .
Why slap when you can punch 🥊??
In 1987 Mike Tyson got into a street fight with another pro fighter named Mitch Green. During the fight Tyson broke his hand when he punched Green in the head. I don't believe my fist is as strong as Mike Tyson's. I go into more on this subject in my article "How to Hit Hard." pekiti.com/blogs/news/bag-work-in-the-pekiti-tirisa-system
