BMW M240i v AMG A45 v RS3 v Golf R: TUNED DRAG RACE
It’s time for an incredible tuned hot hatch drag race!!
We’ve got our hands on the BMW M240i, VW Golf R, Audi RS3 and AMG A45 S. They’re all about to go head-to-head over the quarter-mile, and they’ve all been tuned! This one’s going to be epic…
So let’s check out the stats. The BMW is powered by a 3-litre straight-six turbo, which normally puts out 374hp and 500Nm of torque. However, the one we’ve got our hands on now puts out 460hp and 650Nm! Next up it’s the Golf R, which is the most powerful car here! Its 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine normally produces 374hp and 420Nm of torque, but it’s £7,000 worth of work done to it, and as a result, it now puts down 530hp and 630Nm!!
Alongside the Golf, we have the RS3, with the power output from its 2.5-litre 5-cylinder turbo increased from 400hp and 500Nm to 503hp and 630Nm respectively. Then finally we have the AMG A45. It’s had the least work done on it here (only £1,000 worth), but it’s still received a pretty tasty output increase, with the 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo now putting down 503hp and 610Nm!

Model 3 performance was doing this 5 years ago... and still quicker then all these cars

You mean a Golf that pops and bangs naturally, instead of the fake pops and bangs a standard Golf R makes when lifting off the throttle at 10mph in 1st gear. I hate the unnecessary, programmed pops and bangs of modern cars. They do it constantly. Nothing to do with the overrun. Just effects. Yawn.

Should definitely show what tyres are on these cars in the specs. It’s a massive factor in a drag race and brake test.

I don’t think it’s as big of a factor in this one. They’re of awd, on stock tires and it’s not a prepped surface.

Huge respect to all the cars. Golf R is absolute tuner monster, also most affordable. RS3 has our hearts with the iconic 5cyl BMW quick of the line as always. (If the launch control works) A45 AMG you can´t go wrong with. Most powerful production 4cyl ever made and stunning looks.

Mat awesome video like always i know you're the one that started all this drag racing/review thing because i watched those and there was no one that did that i just wanna recommend that you use 60fps quality is good but 60 frames will even make these races look better Keep it up 🌟
Weight does matter for braking performance unlike Ben Collins says. What matters most is load transfer. The higher the center of mass or the shorter the wheelbase the more load transfer for a given deceleration. And you basically want to get 50/50 balance (after load transfer) to get max deceleration, which is why a rearward weight distribution car has very good stopping performance.
Please bring more content with The Stig! I´m happy that we know his identity and we all won with that! He is cool! Adds good atmosfere and content to programs!

Amazing hot hatches and drag race! But Mat, the 8R and RS3 don't have a standalone ECU, they're just remapped factory ECUs. A standalone ECU is a different league as price and performance goes.
Love the channel - great content. I did notice the engine bay used for the Mercedes was the Golf R's EA888 engine. I guess only a car nut like myself would notice...

Love these tuned races!!! Would be cool to see the original quarter mile of each one before if possible :)) guess 11.7 for the golf is about a second faster than stock? Mental. Bimmers always take off after 100mph but crazy how quick the rs3 became around 130mph!
It all adds up. The BMW has lower HP and is slightly heavier so it won’t reach higher speeds but it has the most torque. That’s why it started fairly decent for a BMW compared to the others.
It's nuts that this tuned golf r has same P/W ratio as an M5 (341/ton vs 340/ton) I would love to see a drag race between this tuned cars to those high performance cars in the previous dyno run video Before anyone tried to claim that you can also tune M5. I know that but my main point is even after those upgrades it was ~50k compared to stock m5
It would be interesting for sure. The benefit of the M5 is that it’s a factory car that’s had far more R&D and testing with hundreds of cars. The Golf isn’t a one off or anything, but it’s still an unfinished product and can have mishaps and whatnot because of it. That’s the downside you *can* have from tuning. Sometimes you’ll never have an issue
