Sebizzar The music video adds another layer for me. I may have not liked the Rio Grande Valley, but it had it's moments. The cookouts with friends and family, Tejano music playing, people dancing and downing some beers, the smell and smoke of barbeque, and of course there's always that one guy that yells put an el grito.

Yeah I tend to just call it the teenage dirtbag era which ran from about 1999-2004. It peaked in around 2001/2002. I'm like you in that I have no specific memory related to this song. It just takes me back to that time period. It's funny because I wasn't into allot of this type of music back then and seem to only appreciate it now. I loved this song as a teen (still do) but had never seen the music video before because i was a was a kid in the 90s/ 2000s. My heart swelled seeing the type of weddings I attended as a kid in those decades, decor, outfits, everything, used in the video. This brought the biggest smile to my face.

The wedding feels so authentic, I have to remind myself that they're all paid actors, and it wasn't a real wedding. This is my first time seeing the music video, though I must have heard the song first decades ago. I kept waiting for some "edgy" moment where the wedding is ruined, but it's just a sweet video of a lovely wedding. The whole thing is so wholesome and feel good.

I had friend who had sent me the link to this song some years ago. We used to be depressed and chill to this. Then she lost a lot of weight, started dating and grew distant from me. I don't resent her at all and I feel happy that her self esteem improved and I like to come back to this song and envision that she's living happily, somewhere out there on an island in the sun.
Can never resent someone for moving on and wanting better misery loves company and it can be extremely frustrating for both parties even worse for the one that doesn't move on as I was on both sides more than once. At least you have a positive view on it hope you find or have found happiness in something.

I used to play this a lot when I was younger, my Mum used to say how much she loved it too. She died unexpectedly in 2014 at the age of 59 after an underserved, tough life. I adored her with all my being and I miss her terribly and always will. I can only hope she’s on an Island in the Sun and nothing feels bad anymore ❤❤

I first heard this song on the radio when it came out back in 2001. I was driving along the beachside in Cottlesloe, Perth Australia. I was with my two friends and we were just jamming and gliding to this song and we ended up driving an extra 100 miles because it was so fitting driving and seeing the Oceanview and soaking in the summer heat in my Mercedes Convertible. Good times... One of the best moments of my life, thanks to this song. It's forever in my car song collection.
