Making a terrarium for a domestic lizard is a snap. You can buy it at the pet store, but it's better to make a DIY terrarium. An ordinary aquarium is not suitable as a home for a lizard, since a reptile terrarium must have good ventilation.

that tank is WAYYYY too small for a leo. an adult leo requires 20 gallons! they need their space in order to thrive!

Yes
I don’t mean to be this person, but minimum size for a leopard gecko is actually a 40gal! I’m not trying to be rude at all. I just want to make sure the info is correct, especially for anyone in the comments looking to get a leo, and doesn’t have this info yet.😊
Not true people literally breed them in snake racks
@@DDOT201 and that is not good

The foam is perfectly safe its called Great stuff gaps and cracks, it just needs to cure all the way! And only 100% silicone caulk should be used

The problem is that they're putting an arid animal into a tropical environment, and the tank is far too small

Seems like a pretty small enclosure for a leopard gecko
yeah, they need at least a 20 gallon LONG, not the arboreal baby crested gecko crap
You can use aquarium safe silicone!!! but please PLEASE never put the actual heat mat IN THE TANK!!!! This could easily burn your pet and possibly kill them!!!!
We have our heat mats in the tank with then but have a glass chopping board over the top to keep them safe . I do agree tho having an uncovered heat mat without a heat probe can be especially dangerous keep your reptiles safe :)
Welcome to another video of: "let's promote on KZhead something that's potentially dangerous for animals" Today we have promoting a way too small enclosure for a Gecko. Including expanding Foam, unspecified Clay and exposed heat mats that jsut get some dirt one them. Not to forget today's visitor. An emptied out coconut with a tiny hole for a Leopard Gecko that won't fit there.. Plus the Coconut is loose and will roll off. Also a quite thin Gecko being put into said enclosure.
And don't forget! Put a this gecko in a tropical biotope more than a desertic biotop
I was like: this is a great enclosure for a tarantula, or s few mourning geckos, but no. She goes in and puts a leopard gecko
expanding foam isn’t dangerous for reptiles if you buy from the right brands and keep an eye on the ingredients. many people use it for bio active enclosures
@@vanillabatbones the problem isn't the expanding foam. It's putting an arid (sort of like desert) animal into a tropical environment that's way too small for it
@@lemonlizard1 100%, but they mentioned the expanding foam as a bad thing
Few days later.. "oh my lizard so lazy..shes sleeping for few days now"
This is a great terrarium! But not necessarily for a leopard gecko. They tend to be more ground-dwelling and don't climb much, so you'll want a longer horizontal space rather than a vertical space. Please always make sure that the materials you're using are safe for reptiles (for this example: the spray foam, the clay, and even certain plants)! I would also advise away from loose substrate such as dirt, soil and sand, especially if you have a baby/smaller leopard gecko, as they lick everything (fun fact: that's how they smell, just like snakes) and can't digest things like that, so they could eventually pass away from a blocked-up gut. One last thing: the heat mat ALWAYS goes on the OUTTER BOTTOM of the terrarium!! They pack a lot of heat and can burn your reptiles, of whom can't sense when they're being scorched! A great video non the less! Please always do your research for the best health of your pets💚
Yeah, spray foam is such a natural habitat for a lizard.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Stupid video!!! 🤬
Seems like dangerous substance to put into an aquarium with a biological being . There should be some sort of calculator which would analyze if the compositions you want to use in the project would be safe and good for those who would be in it's surroundings .
Key word here is "seems"
ik you’re worried but trust me it’s fine. it’s not like a mouse they don’t bite into everything. leopard geckos do tend to lick everything lol but this is okay because the foam they used is safe for them. i have a bio active tank for both my leopard gecko and crested gecko and i’ve had them for forever and they’re fine :))

Too small!! And the dome in front is up against the glass so how can he get in? Just because it's cute does NOT mean it is suitable for him!!
This is true!
It would be abusive to put an animal in that prison of an enclosure.
Expanding foam can be a killer if there are harmful chemicals, also clay, yes ok, makes nice sculptures, but again, check first as some tanks require a lot of humidity which can either crack or soften clay.
There are specific foams (idk what she has) that are ok to use in reptile enclosures and it’s super common but the clay is def a no. Also the place of the heating mat is ideal, it should not be inside the cage and also she threw a leopard gecko in there, I wouldn’t have personally used a loose substrate for that dude (they love to eat it and become impacted) and it’s more of a humid climate she’s creating and leopards are desert kids🥲

Yes, when it dries it ain't toxic, but it is exposed to direct heat (70-80⁰F), there's no way that foam can handle thag heat, plus the heat mat doesn't got a thermometer/ heat regulator, it can easyly ho up to more the 90⁰F, there ain't no way that thing is save, but if it ain't used then yeah, itxs 100% safe

Yes, all animals need different sizes of space, I wasn't saying that the box was too small for all species just that you need to know how much space your pet needs first. These terrariums are not one size fits all. The lizard in the video is one that needs more space than he can have in that box.

Thermal mats could burn them it’s not safe for lizards or geckos or any reptile I think it would be better if you put like a heat lamp or something
لمخسظىزلتلى
Heat mats work fine if they have a thermostat attached, but this tank isn’t good for a leopard gecko
The mat would possibly burn the foam and even if it doesn’t, it’s safer and much less frowned upon to put it under the tank with a thermometer.
Most reptiles do not bask under the sun to get heat, they lay ont a rock that was heated by the sun. Also, heat lamp are always cheap, they vue fast, cost a lot and the heath they produits is small. Some reptiles need a heathing lamp, but all have to have a heatong mat UNDER the glass tank woth a thermostat.
@@JamesDM4 I did know this, but I was thinking about how they put it IN the enclosure, and even without the probably toxic foam, it would have burned the animal because they didn’t have a thermostat. If you don’t have a thermostat to regulate the temperature of the heat mat, you want to get a heat lamp. Any reptile can thrive with a heat lamp, just some like heat mats better. Heat lamps can get pretty expensive and can last a long time, and they can regularly get up to 85-130 degrees depending on the brand and style you get and the distance from the basking spot. This will also warm the rock the animal will sit on to bask, so they can still get belly heat from a heat lamp. Never assume that a heat mat is better for every reptile that likes belly heat.

Leopard geckos are famous tropical and arborial geckos, absolutely not desertic and they love to die because the heat pad is inside their enclosures. There's nothing right about this build, leopard geckos are super common so it's easy to find information about them but you still did everything wrong, that's incredible considering the probabilities that something like this happens. You probably feed it plants and wonder why it's starving
This hurts my soul

The foam will offgas nasty fumes under the heat of the light or heat mat she put right on the foam. If it’s not for animals then your just slowly killing it at best.
That’s super cute but it would be better suited to a crested gecko, leopard geckos tend to use horizontal space not vertical. Also always use a thermostat with a heat pad, there are a lot of horror stories where it has overheated and burned reptiles. The foam should be fine just make sure it sets for a long time and make sure the lizards can’t eat it. Overall pretty cute.
Выглядит хорошо,но насколько это безопасно...

It is called expanding foam
@Cristina🔞👇 .
They sell it at home Depot ad Lowes. It's called "great stuff".
It's the kind that kills if the creature breathes the air around it.
It will kill it, so I wouldn’t recommend it. The chemicals are fairly poisonous and this stuff is usually put inside of walls.
Not only is a heat mat in the terrarium a bad idea(leads to bad burns if not monitored), that spray foam is not reptile safe, they clay needs to be seal coated before going in the enclosure, and last but not least that is not the correct type of enclosure for a leopard gecko. They lake alot of ground space. They don't need climbing room.

There is so so much wrong with this video, but a proper bioactive setup doesn't need to be cleaned. With the clean up crew, it basically acts as its own contained ecosystem. Enclosure is too small and much too tall. Leopard geckos are arid reptiles, not tropical. Expanding foam didn't have adequate time to dry and is a health hazard for your reptile. Coconut house wasn't properly dried and can also be a hazard by promoting mold. The clay attached to the other house would make it difficult to remove and clean it properly when needed. The substrate is either peat or Coco coir, and doesn't contain necessary nutrition for the plant to grow long term. Reptile habitat rating 1/10. Please don't use this as a care/housing guide for your pets! Like of you agree, so others can see this. 👇
