  • As a mental health therapist and someone who had WLS, it’s so common for patients to not be informed what makes someone higher risk to develop alcohol disorder . We have a responsibility to ask detail questions but also providers to inform us. This is why… “The lining of the stomach contains alcohol dehydrogenase, an enzyme that breaks down alcohol. After weight-loss surgery, people have less of this enzyme available. So drinking wine, beer, or liquor will expose them to a higher dose of unmetabolized alcohol. Some alcohol is absorbed directly from the stomach, but most moves into the small intestine before being absorbed into the bloodstream.” Wls is not an easy way out. I’ve seen so many ppl become dependent of alcohol. This is why having nutritions and therapist post surgery is so important
