I brought together all of the best cobia fishermen that I have been out fishing with and we created the Cobia Fishing Challenge. Whoever catches the most cobia and the largest cobia wins the fishing challenge. After catching the cobia, we had the fillet challenge. Whoever could fillet a cobia the cleanest without missing any meat wins. I invited Captain Scott Lum from Outcast Sportfishing Charters, Captain Preston Muller from Gulf Angler Fishing Charters, Captain Carl Toresson from Slob City Charters and Captain Austin Hayne from Finao Sportfishing.

Lots of really good input from different areas from different captains. The fish are different everywhere you go yet the same species. We like to hit em from above on the piers with a jig tipped with fresh jigged/froze squid in March though mid May in the panhandle of Florida

Just caught my first cobia last trip I took to Lauderdale. 27 lber that put up a hell of a fight. Really interested to see how all the guys prepare it because we ate it raw and lightly seared and both ways were absolutely delicious.

I cut the belly fillet off of my larger catfish too, the smaller ones don't have any belly meat. No bone there though. It comes out in a heart shape fillet that can be pretty big on some fish. Giving you around 1/4-1/3 more meat off the fish. There is a layer of skin (something like that) on inside too though. So you just gotta fillet it off like the outside skin. Most people waste it .. It's the best fillet on the fish.

Almost every cobia I have fileted was full of crabs, seems to be their favorite food. Maybe its easy to catch? That was a rough day on the water for sure. I know from experience you can't even see waves until they are 3-4+ on camera, and with those white caps, I'm glad I wasn't out there.

I’ve been surf fishing in Santa Rosa beach for the past couple days in the morning and at night with no luck. Been using a pompano rig with two hooks and sand fleas. Any suggestions on how to catch anything, I’ve had a total of zero bites. Thanks
