  • Being Frankie's Breeder, I love when his videos pop up in my feed from time to time. I had no idea he would go on to be so popular. I have people referencing him when they contact me about a puppy. So cool to say, yes I know Frankie! He was born here. Look forward to more videos.

  • Joey: your videos have been critical in our research as to whether we want to take the plunge and get an Aussie. One key aspect of your content is the fact that you present the perspective of an average owner (neither an expert or a professional handler) and you are unapologetic about the fact that you are learning as you go. This is much appreciated. Also, please tell me what is the tune at the 8:24 minute mark?

  • Yup...a pup's relation to their owner involves appropriate biting and tossing and roughhousing. ...from both sides. My pup uses her mouth to grab things and contend with me in a play-wrestling match....that's it. I don't hurt my pup and my pup doesn't hurt me. She surely knows she CAN hurt me as I have felt her bite let up instantly when we both grab the same ball etc. ...She knows...and so do I. I would not train her bite out of her.....and I would never give her a reason to use it.

  • Thank you so much for answering my question. I will learn more about barks now. Regarding the recall you mentioned.. I got recommended from a trainer once, to try out which sounds your dog reacts to the most. Like you said, if you are scolding the dog by its name alle the time, he wont connect it to recall so much... or if his Name just doesnt mean anything to the dog. I followed that trainers advice and learnt quickly, my dog Morfar (means Grandpa in danish, he is about 7,5 months now) is super reactive to whistle sounds. He becomes an automatic rocket launcher, once he hears me whistle with my fingers or use a whistle. Other dog owners say really pitched “yapyap” or clap hands, like you do... sometimes the name just doesnt work anymore.. I could also recommend, to start over the recall training with a new word/sound from scratch

  • Hey my aussie puppy is now approaching 6 months and she is well behaved but that’s because I’m giving her good treats everytime she does it correctly. Is it possible to someday completely get rid of the treats and still get her to listen or does the dog then not see any benefit in listening anymore?

    @naoli5481@naoli54813 жыл бұрын
    • Your dog is doing the command in the first place because they want to please you, and a treat is rewarded. It is important to also do multiple commands and give treats every so often. But at the same time, as they grow old we forget that they still need treats. They are still being good so they still deserve rewards

      @FrankieToTheMoon@FrankieToTheMoon3 жыл бұрын
    • You can start to reward less and less with treats overtime and give them jackpots occasionally instead, but make it unpredictable so they don't know if they're getting any treats or not. You could possibly just pet or play a little bit with them when you don't want to give treats if that's something they like. Or if they really want to run up to someone they know like a dog you can call them in and let them play with the dog as a reward, but you obv. have to know that it's ok for them to play together beforehand in those situations.

    • I use that leash when I am regularly walking. I use the running belt when we are walking on trails because it is an easy clip on and clip off if someone is coming/another dog

  • I know that there is still a lot of inconclusive research at this point, but I have stopped feeding my dog the "grain free" kibble options that include things like lentils and peas as it could be linked to DCM in dogs. I may get attacked for this in the comments but I would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to my best friend.

    • I think whatever works best for your dog is what you should feed them. There are some grain free kibbles that provide lots of great ingredients and some grain kibbles that also provide lots of nutrients. So just do your research and I am sure your pup will be grateful
