I recently picked this 2000 sport up as a project, and decided to tear the whole motor down and give it a refresh. This time lapse was fun to make, from crank in, to engine running took about 12 hours

  • I bought a 2000 XLS. It was sitting for years the harmonic balancer bolt was loose, leaking oil. I did alot of work and was glad the engine was still good.

  • HELL Yeah BRO!!!! The 2000 Montero Sport is a LIteral Gemstone for the start of the new Generation of the Montero Family.... ive got one too but having trouble finding performance parts for it... ive looked almost everywhere online and not much comes up. any tips on great websites to check out would be Exremly helpful straight up. This year of the Montero bro it doesnt get better than this trust me on that, its a Japanese Jeep but way better than a jeep on so many fronts its why i got one...

  • Great work man, I bet that startup felt great. I’m curious if the newer valve stem steals are updated at all compared to the originals or if you’ll likely have to go back in there after 100,000 miles again? Also, have you ever thought about a 6G75 non-MIVEC swap into your 2nd Gen Montero, apparently it’s plug and play.

    • The VSS should last the rest of the life of the vehicle. and i did think briefly about an engine swap, but i just rebuilt that engine last year so i'm not eager to rip it out again

  • im getting ready to do a complete engine rebuild on the 3.5l, its almost maxed out on its milage. im planning on upgrading alot of the internal engine componets to bring up the hrps and torque to around maybe a little over 450hrps and torque if i can even get 470+or- torque... i just am having some trouble finding all the aftermarket upgrades for this model.

  • I snapped my timing belt and more than likely have to replace my valves and valve seals, I was curious if you would be able to give any insight on the job, I have never taken a motor apart to that extent and simply cant find any information on the job for this motor. Love the videos and love the community around these cars

    • Check out my last 2 videos on my Gen 3 montero.. I went into that thinking I was going to do a VSS job and ended up doing more, but I go over a lot of the basics in there

    • @@montanamontero would you say pulling off the head is necessary or is it double without removing it for just a valve and valve seal job?

      @Artem3236@Artem32366 ай бұрын
    • 100% worth it to pull the heads and work on it outside of the car. But if you need to replace valves you will be doing that anyway

  • Hey bro, this is an awesome video. Question on the crank angle sensor, I forgot how the crank angle sensor is routed and I want to make sure the crank angle sensor wire doesn't get chewed up. Do you have any pictures of how it's routed? I have a PDF of the service manual but the diagrams aren't helpful at all. Thanks

    • No worries I found the bracket that is for the sensor and saw another teardown video that showed how it was routed. A legit "lightbulb" moment. Thank you for replying though!@@montanamontero

  • Owned Monteros (96, 02, 05) and a Montero sport (02). Any idea if a transfer case from a 3.5 4spd montero (gen 2 or gen 3 xls) would drop into an 3.5 awd montero sport? They use the same 4 speed transmission, and most of the running gear looks the same. Thought that combo with manual hubs would be nice to get 2wd avaliable in an awd sport.

  • what engine stand and lift are you using? Are you happy with them? Thanks.

    @toddtonis@toddtonis Жыл бұрын
    • it's a power torque stand. i think it's fine, i think most engine stands are about the same. I have an electronic winch set up in my shop for hoisting things, that's what i'm using for an engine crane

  • I have a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (Montero) year 2002, V6 3000 cc engine, gasoline and when I go to the mountains, in the high area of 2000m, it has no power. I was told that an altitude sensor is defective, but I don't know where it is. Can you please tell me where it is?

    @FlorinRoman68@FlorinRoman683 ай бұрын
    • i've never heard of an altitude sensor, but their is a mass airflow sensor that works with the changes in altitude. that might be your issue

    • @@DanielPerkins what makes this motor harder to time vs other motors? As far as I can see the cap and rotor is far to the corner so it wont get hot and you can just stop the car, and adjust it with minimal wait to let it cool. But I haven't been under the hood of this vehicle so I can't say. Some.jeeps, to save room, have the cap and rotor on the side of the block..probably gets really hot. Everything is a trade off.
