I really like the fact that John Wick set the standards for future action movies (minimal CGI, stable camera work, realistic gun play,....)
And good worldbuilding. More action films (not counting sci fi or superhero films) need more interesting settings.

I like the fact that these standards are pretty much fixing everything that The Matrix broke. Matrix combat looks too much like Dragonball type combat. Attack/block at super speed repeated until someone lands a super-hit. And sadly, that kinda became the norm for too long. John Wick is more of a return to the sort of combat one would see in a Chuck Norris movie like Lone Wolf McQuade, turned up to 11. I dare say that this movie series might make Keanu the next Chuck Norris. Though, we all know that when John Wick checks under the bed, he's afraid of finding Chuck Norris...
"Practical is better" sets this film franchise apart from any other.

We were dropping off a friend to go see his brother in Buffalo General, and were waiting for him parked on High Street when an Asian man in orange robes walked by, heading towards the main entrance. Three of the locals were following him, and closing on him. Halfway up the block, they caught up, and surrounded him. The two friends waiting with me decided we should step in, and reached for door handles. I told them to wait. Mainly because I knew what was about to go down. Those three guys had just decided to mess with a Shao Lin monk, who had been in the order for decades. He didn't hurt any of them, but countered every punch, kick, and charge, with them landing on their back or ass, for about 5 minutes. Funny as hell. After that, we all stepped out of the car, and walked over, making it clear that we had seen the whole thing, and would hood them there, until LE showed up, if they didn't make like a tree and leaf. And we didn't have the do no harm, religious restrictions. They decided that leaving on an embarrassment was better than leaving in a black and white, and haired out. After they were gone, I turned to the monk, we both smiled and bowed, and he headed towards the main entrance, and went inside. One of his brothers was just out of surgery, and he was going there to visit him, as we found out from our friend, who passed him in the hall, on his way back out. Al stoppard and talked to him for a couple minutes, and went in with him, to pray for his brother's recovery. Having met Keanu myself, back when he was in Buffalo filming part of a movie, he came over to check out our bikes while on lunch, I could see it going down that way. He set up a ride with us that Sunday, and we hung out with him and a couple crew members for the day. And we still keep in touch. 15 years ago, I got an infection in my left foot that led to an amputation. He called me in the hospital to see how I was holding up. The next call he made was to the gift shop, to cover the phone and TV, for me and the guy in the other bed, for the full stay, so we could keep in touch with our families, and wouldn't have to worry about that added expense. The next year, when I got married, he offered to pay for a honeymoon in Niagara Falls, which we declined, as it was during the school year, and we had an 8 year old, as well as my wife working for the high school. Instead, a few years later, we all flew out to LA, to visit and toured the Arch facility, over winter break, and stayed out there for a week. All because he spotted my Norton Commando, while on lunch, years earlier, and stopped to ask me about it, and my friends XS 750.
I think the beauty of John Wick will always lie in its elegance. There's crazy action scenes, explosions, the whole nine yards, but what fundamentally makes the movie fun to watch is the absolutely incredible fights between people who have devoted months of their lives to perfecting a style.

My favorite so far is the second movie because it discusses the world of John Wick the most. The universe is expansive enough that it could be successfully adapted into a television series, without running out of episode ideas. I can't wait for the series based on the Continental Hotel.

I'm quite fond of viewing John Wick's Assassin universe as being one of the previous variations of the Matrix which had failed. Under this interpretation I'd view Assassins as being the software 'Agents' of the Matrix, while real humans would ironically be the background NPCs. This helps me with why the Assassins world and motivations are skewed towards contracts and debt rather than the human feelings represented by those John Wick briefly finds in his wife. The world overall being stylized and game like.
Why not just enjoy the world of super assassins as it is.

That would take away from the mystery of his past. Not everything needs a full blown origin story.

One has to wonder why the High Table thought it was a good idea to try and kill John instead of just letting him go peacefully. Santino’s killing of his sister and betrayal of John must have raised some alarm bells over his suitability to join the High Table since it violently shakes up the status quo they’re enjoying and gives John, a legendary assassin, reason to come after them. You’d think they’d celebrate Santino’s removal since it avenges a rightful member of the table, gives its current members a chance to bolster their own power and influence in the power vacuum, and gets rid of John’s reason to stick to the assassin business. All they had to do was cancel the contract and things could carry on as normal.
Santino would of been dealt with severely for breaking the rules, the same as was set for John Wick. He broke the safe heaven rules - although understandable - still a beach of the rules set for all. NO EXCEPTIONS NO MATTER WHAT. Now what he done wrong was go after him on his own, if he came to the HIGH TABLE, and informed of the circumstances - he would have been give permission to do so. As Santino broke some serious rules, POWER PLAYS FOR THE HIGH TABLE ARE NEVER TOLERATED - YOU EARN YOUR PLACE - YOU DO NOT INHERIT IT, OR STEAL IT.

Thats still unlikely, he was around 23 when we saw him so he would've been close to 18 years old by the time John got out of that life and even younger when John was actually active. These rules are what got me very interested in Hong Kong/Taiwanese shows 30 years ago. The rules. The idea that if someone has your marker, they can ask you to commit suicide, and that'd be it. So you gotta do everything to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands. And having to kill you best friend because of the code. Your " gun violence" statistic is way off. Yes, around 30,000 people are shot and die as.a result, every year. That is accurate. However, that statistic includes self inflicted, accidental deaths involving a firearm, and about 35 percent of that number involves suicides using a firearm. It also includes gang and drug related shootings, where someone died, and police involved shootings. As well as self and home defense shootings. So the actual number is far lower than what most anti 2A sources would lead you to believe. If you want an accurate breakdown by year, the FBI stats are the most accurate. Not saying it isn't still tragic, but those numbers are padded, as a means of manipulating the public.
