    • The lines weren't there before the mass showed up. The lines are created by mass lining up their own reactions to a homogeneous field. Science draws lines on paper to illustrate the gradient of the field, but I don't believe the lines are actually there. Take a single magnet to another and find one yourself. It is completely smooth.
