    • @@HappyAxolotl24 Very interesting. Babies weakness to fire is based on the amount of fire to an exponent. They cry a bit if you hold a match to their face but they don't start dying until you bring out a full flamethrower. In unrelated news, just because it is interesting, if you boil a baby very slowly it drowns far before the heat is noticeable. Kind of a let down.

    • I'm one of the rare pokémon fans that actually likes Delphox and Meowscarada, and I always have to preface that with "because the concept and their implied personalities are really cool, I'm not a furry". It gets annoying. Like yeah, you guys are allowed to hate it or be perverts about them but don't accuse me of anything. I do like that they're more human, because they reflect very human jobs- witch/magical girl and magician respectively. To me that's super cool, like, a game that has an anime is referencing RPG games (its own genre), anime as a whole, as well as the medium of entertainment in general, with the latest starters all being entertainers. And people will hate when I say this because they think he's cute and on four legs or whatever but the fire croc is a really bad example of that concept being done. He's not an obvious singer by any means, nor does his design reflect that. He barely seems like a ghost type at all. It's bizarre to me.

  • I love the amount of thought put into the types. Like, the fact that Azurill and Marill are gender type references the fact that up until gen 6, 1/3 female Azurill would become male Marill upon evolving due to their gender ratios being different. I love the thoroughness of it all.

  • I'd add type "No". It'd not be weak to anything, not interact with anything, not be strong against anything, but counters "Yes". And a type "Yes". It'd be weak to anything, interact with EVERYTHING and be strong against anything, and counter "No". And a "Maybe" type. It'd be strong, weak and neutral against other types depending on its nature, just to mess with the trainer...

I could visualize an algorithm like: (assuming for sake of argument 60 types) - For that type's memory list, assign a placeholder value to each interaction - Seed 5 weaknesses, 5 resists, and 20 neutrals randomly across the list - Iterate through the list and for each placeholder/undefined interaction, randomly assign it as 75% neutral, 10/10/5% weak/resist/immune Heck, something similar could work with just the base 18 types: - Seed 2 weaknesses, 3 resists, and 4 neutrals across 9 of the 18 types - All remaining types are randomly assigned (again, say 75% neutral, 10/10/5 weak/resist/immune).

    • @@helterskelter7446 Not quite. Silvally had two types, the Emerald Type, and the Type type. Type doubles the damage interactions of every type in the game, while the Emerald Type was super effective against all three of Delphox's types. So it's 8x damage because of the Emerald type's calculations, and then that 8x gets doubled again because of the Type type's interaction. Except it would have dealt so much damage to Delphox that the game couldn't calculate it, and it underflowed , making it deal less than 0 damage. Because the minimum damage that can be dealt to a Pokemon is 1 damage, that's how much damage the game gave Delphox. tl;dr, Delphox got pounded so hard the game gave the damage a negative value which ended up getting rounded up to 1

  • My best explanation for the whole Type-Type/Emerald Multi-Attack thing is that type interactions are stored as 4-bit values, ie. 0-15. Having a x16 interaction loops the value back in on itself to x0, BUT since it isn't considered a type immunity and the minimum amount of damage dealt needs to be 1, it just deals 1 damage.

    • I think the highest base game would be an inverted x8 from Thick Fat (specifically Ice against Walrein), since it counts towards the same multiplier as types. If it stopped at 4, it would've been a 3-bit value (0-7)

    • Type interactions are not 4-bit values. The type chart is stored as an array of unsigned 8-bit values. The more likely explanation is that at some point in the calculation it underflows since they weren't expecting a multiplier that large in the base game, but I would have to see the edited damage calc function to confirm this.

  • I've always thought Pokemon needed more types, but this is insane! If I could do anything, I'd combine rock and ground into earth, because I never understood having them be separated in the forst place. I'd also add the sound type, because sound is a huge part of life. And finally, I'd divide flying in the air and bird types because that is the most complicated type, and because those two are actually different instead of rock and ground.
