Josh Samman was born on March 14, 1988, in Des Moines, Iowa, to a Palestinian father and a Southern mother. He grew up in Tallahassee, Florida, where he developed a passion for martial arts and chess. He was a smart and creative kid, but also rebellious and restless. He started using drugs at an early age and dropped out of school at 16. He moved out of his mother's house and got involved in petty crimes. He was arrested several times and spent time in jail and rehab. But despite his troubles, Samman never gave up on his dream of becoming a professional fighter.
