Extensive deforestation in Indonesia, driven by the expansion of pulpwood and oil palm plantations, is threatening orangutan habitat. PT Mayawana Persada, a company operating in Indonesian Borneo, has been accused by NGOs of significant deforestation in a recent report. The company has converted over 33,000 hectares of rainforest into monoculture pulpwood plantations, an area three times the size of Paris., in the western part of Indonesian Borneo, posing a major environmental concern.
