    • It is hard to get started, and it usually takes about a year to see some real traction. But it is most certainly doable. There’s nothing special about successful shops other than consistency and quality products. So if you really do see this as something you could do long term, then don’t let some setbacks discourage you 🙂

    @fotograficmaniac@fotograficmaniac9 ай бұрын
    • Hey! Welcome to the channel! Absolutely, over the course of the next couple of videos i will go over how to set up a shop from the ground up. It is ideal to have a clear and well defined niche when selling on almost any platform. You want to be the "go to" place to get a specific kind of product. But you can definitely diversify within the niche and sell maps as printable posters, or maps on shirts, shower curtains, mouse pads... you name it. In the video I showed an example of a shop that sells printable maps but also printable constellations. So there is some room there to diversify to other somewhat related topics. I wouldn't recommend selling maps and animal stickers on the same shop though! Hope it helps! Saludos! 😉

    • Hey there! Styles are licensed under a Creative Commons license and are free to use commercially. The maps themselves are copyrighted, but because the process described in the video involves radically transforming the maps to the point where all that’s left is factual data, then the final result I believe falls under Fair Use doctrine. They just close the shop. It does not matter if you have 100 maps for sale or 10.000, and I can tell buy reading seller's comments that went to that experience that it is really a devastating one , specially of you have hundred or thousands of items for sale and your revenue stream dries up suddenly. Their maps were basically like these ones, in a whole bunch of different options, frames etc. One year later they shut down the whole operation. I'm not saying it's a bad product and there is no possibility that it was their fault as business owners (OR SHITTY branding for that matter - which it was not!).. just saying .. they supposedly did everything right and made no money off of it. Not the maps, those are protected by copyright and I don't think I want a copyright lawsuit from google. • Hi, the license terms are at the bottom of the landing page. The maps are distributed under a Creative Commons license. You can freely use the maps even for commercial purposes. It would be illogical to freely distribute the “styles” but not the underlying map. These are not styles that you can apply to anything else other than these maps. I hope this clears it. 🙂

      @SantiHustle@SantiHustle3 ай бұрын
    • @@SantiHustle I know it seems illogical, but it says "All styles are licensed under creative commons and are completely free to use." at the bottom of the landing page, and that's what they mean. They can't give anyone permission to use the underlying maps under CC0 because google owns it. Google only allows websites to embed their data and that is what snazzymaps is doing. Snazzymaps service is to provide styles so that if someone legally, how google intends to, embeds google maps data into their website, they can do so with a cool colourful style. And those styles are under CC0. I mean, I wonder if someone could even legally copyright the specific style of a map (but some companies even try to hold copyright to a single colour or sth so it definitely could be a thing), but it's still a good idea to inform both users of the platform that create styles, and users who use those styles on their website, that those styles can be used under CC0.

      @SayuriYaki@SayuriYaki3 ай бұрын
    • @@SantiHustleNo… you really need to read what it actually says, not what you think it says; ”all *styles* are licensed under creative commons and are free to use”. It says nothing about the map data … because that is something they can’t give to you. They use Google Maps that explicitly prohibits the kind of use suggested. However … you can use e.g. OpenStreetMap data, which is just as styliseable - it just … takes a bit more effort.

      @uttula@uttula3 ай бұрын
    • @@SayuriYaki You are correct. . Santi Hustle is not in this case. Even if that website said the maps can be used commercially (they only say styles for a reason) you would need the permission of the map owner that in this case is Google.

      @historicalimages4456@historicalimages44563 ай бұрын
    • I think the OP is right. I’ve read the terms of use and it does specifically say the styles are free to use. It then goes on to explain how they can be used in a JSON file or other ways on your website. This really does seem to point to the fact that the styles are for use and not the maps themselves. It is strange though, but if the big G has the copyright of the underlying map then that’s the way it is. If the image is changed significantly for artistic purposes then is there still a copyright issue? Like taking a photo of a statue. You could sell that and not get hit with copyright lawsuits; couldn’t you? If you know then please pass on that knowledge.
