Welcome to Our French Chateau!
We are Amanda and Lincoln. With our two daughters and pets in tow, we moved across the world from our home in San Francisco California to buy and restore a petite chateau on 40 acres in the beautiful French countryside of Brittany.
Our channel documents our triumphs and failures in restoring the 19th-century Chateau de Lingourdy. We plan to return the gardens, cottages and barns to their former glory (on a tight budget) and open them up for events and luxurious stays to the public. So if you're interested in observing daily life through the eyes of an American family whose French language skills are quite lacking and who have amassed a menagerie that includes cats, dogs, and donkeys. Please join us...
Blue, definitely blue.
Amanda, you are allowed to change your mind whenever you feel like it. Seeing the black door compared to the blue door it’s softer color. I believe the blue color will be lovely. Every choice you made so far in the Château is beautiful and if you live with it for a while and you choose to make a different choice so be it! It is your château. 😊 Thank you Lincoln , Amanda
i think the doors should be painted the same color as the rest of the woodwork in the roo
100% blue. Black is such a strong colour that everything else has to be design around it. It competes with the chateau itself.
Blue
Blue Absolutely!
The blue is amazing and love the wallpaper....going to look fantastic!! Those donkeys are so cute and you take such good care of them.....I really enjoy seeing your animals!
I love black as well, but the blue is my favorite and it looks stunning
Have a sheen in the paint for doors and trim, not matte.
I agree that neither the blue or black works with the paper you have chosen. Pick one of the colors within the paper and use that on all woodwork.
Love thr blue
I prefer the blue doors-seems more French. Those donkeys just make me smile. Hope you can get your pump fixed. Have a good week.
Yes. Blue. Good luck with the well.
We are loving the pale colour you are painting the panels best!
I drove through France yesterday (Chartres to Bretagne/Roscoff for the ferry back home to Ireland), boy it was sooo hot! Now I feel a bit cold with 17 degrees C. - I absolutely loved your intro too! - As much as I like the black door, I prefer this amazing blue.
Wow - how is the ferry to Ireland? I've only flown...
@@OurFrenchChateau It was a bit like on the Titanic: huge, lovely bars, (little indoor) swimming pool, a great shop, cinema (2 movies - more for the kids). Extremely well organised despite almost 2400 passengers and 600 cars. I slept so well in the berth in my cabin with small bathroom, there are also some luxurious cabins with beds and Nespresso, fruit basket etc. It was a ferry from Brittany Ferries to Cork, from 11 pm yesterday to 11 am Irish time, one hour behind France. Cork in the South is the second biggest city in Ireland, my young sons live and work there, I have been living 80 km into the Southwest for 24 years.
Blue is just my favorite.
I can you guys as supermodels! 🤗 For the donkeys, get them head collars and lead ropes so they can’t wander while you brush them. When trying to pick up their hooves, run your hand down their leg an lean on them slightly to shift their weight. On the colour, I love black on outside doors but not inside so I’ll vote for blue but do it quickly before you change your mind 😂😂😂
I agree on the halter and lead rope. Also, never let it drag on the ground, and ABSOLUTLY NEVER wrap it around your hand. And yes, pick up feet along with brushing. Perhaps even lunge them before the farrier arrives. They will be too tired to misbehave. And it establishes that you are the boss.
I have had horses for 30 years. You really should take the time to train your donkeys with a lead rope and a halter. I was in the horse boarding business for 22 years, and this is what I said to owners horses that did not have basic skills. If case of a emergency your animal will either live or die. PS….your donkey that is not shedding out may having cushings. I think I found some of your modelling pictures….pretty lady😊
Love the blue.
I love the blue, black is too much of a contrast. I love black but it is a lot for the door and trim.
Love following you super models as you struggle with life in a chateau in France. Thank God for vlogs like these, any passion I had to renovate anything in France has been well and truly extinguished. I am now content to sit back and watch others in their endeavours. Love you Lincoln and Amanda.
Hey former super models! So happy to see you changed careers! I love basic black for a lot of things, but the black door looks better blue in my opinion, but what do I know!! Those 2 donkeys of yours are so cute and obviously well trained and cared for. Sorry about the pump not working guys!
Horsemanship 101 Keep brushing even though the donkey is moving and only stop for the reward when they stand still. Eventually they will stand throughout the brushing. No other treats. The stopping is the reward. Give them 20 Seconds approximately for the reward.
Absolutely! Our donkeys never have treats unless they ‘achieve’ something…i.e. standing still, lifting hooves to the command ‘Gracie/Pagnol’HUP! Then praise praise and more praise. Most donkeys when calm absolutely adore bring brushed, their noses often go to the ground…but gently on the legs, sensitive areas and we usually use a very soft brush for legs.
Blue is the way to go. It is hot here in Canada🇨🇦
We lived in a house with a well. The pump never broke down; in our case it was the pressure tank. It has a balloon in it, that deflated. We were lucky and just had to reinflate it (using a compressor) and it worked. Not sure what a new pressure tank would cost, but probably less than a new pump. Hopefully the switch was the only thing you needed! Good luck!
I don't comment often buttttt, since you are asking about door colors, I'm not sure why your asking when you said this is your final decision but here goes. The wallpapered panels in the room should be a feature within the space. All the doors should blend in not distract from all the beautiful features in the room. I don't think it's in keeping at all. I guess I just don't get your color choices however I love your sense of humor. Stay well.
Welcome back! Blue! 😊
I like the blue. I’ve always had wells and had the same issue as you during a blizzard. Try finding someone to come out to replace the miles of pipe in a blizzard! $3500.00 later it was replaced and voila, I had water again! Your driveway is beautiful. Your whole estate is stunning. xx
I love your humor and your channel
Any color is better that no color or black. Those old chateaus are just crying out to me for beautiful soft colors
Now I can totally see Lincoln in a headband striking a Zoolander pose.
😂
The garden looks beautiful
I love the blue 💙
Love the slate blue/almond combo. With that exquisite wallpaper it’s a winner! Sorry about the well situation. Good thing you two are so patient and methodical.
I love how loud the birds are singing!
I love the donkeys. What a beautiful shot of your property at the end of the video , it looked like a painting. Best of luck with the pump. Supermodels shouldn’t have to deal with broken water pumps.
🤣
You should really put headcollars on them and tie the donkeys up to give them a feed and brush daily, and pick out their hooves. It will be so much easier if they have a routine, than chasing them around trying to pick up a hoof. I'd suggest giving them a small amount of food in a large bowl each, and then slip the headcollars on whilst thier noses are in the bowl. If you get the sort which have a noseband which has a buckle, you can just fasten the headcollar around thier necks first, and then bring up the noseband to fasten it. Then once they have eaten, lead them to wherever you want to tie them up. But a hint; do not tie them directly to a ring or rail or wall, first tie a loop a baling twine to what ever you intend tying them to, and tie thier lead ropes to the baling twine. That way, if they pull back, they just snap the baling twine, but do not bring down apart of a fence or wall, or injure them selves. But give them a wadge of hay, and they will soon positively enjoy your attentions ie grooming and footcare. Hope you dont mind; I had horses and ponies for many years. It's much easier and quicker to have a routine than to have to chase them around in a dance, to get them to stand still.
I was just about to give them the same advise as you regarding the Donkeys but also to wear a hard hat too they could kick or even give them a nip too.
@@rosa-f4865 yes, that is also good advice. I don't wear a hat for general handling, as mine well known to me ie 16 years, but good advice for anyone handling one when you do not know what reaction they might have. What I do do is always make sure my head is up as high as possible when bent over near a horse hooves, and also it would be a good idea if one of them held the head, while the other picked the feet. And of course, talk to them as you move about them, so they know exactly where you are, don't just try to grab a foot and pull it up. Speak to them so they know where you are, hold ie touch the top of the leg and slide your hand down to lower leg. And stand close to thier side so as you lift the hoof, you can also press into thier side slightly with your body, which makes them shift thier wieght so they can balance. Also, use a key word so the donkeys know when you say it and are holding a leg, they are to lift it off the ground. Something simple, like 'hoof' or 'Up'. Then the person holding head can also give a tidbit for doing what is required when they are asked. They will soon learn, what you want them to do, with consistancy..
@@lynneh9744 I do hope they take our advise Xxxx
Blue is much nicer than black. Hope the donkeys behave when the vet gets there. Thanks so much for sharing. Your vegetable garden looks great.
What a gorgeous view out of the window! Your chateau is always a joy to see.!
I like both colours but out the 2 blue is my favourite colour. It will look beautiful whatever you choose…. Just look at the other rooms.
I didn’t know donkeys could be blacklisted! 😂 I love your sense humour! As for me if it was my room I would paint the doors blue. You tried back and it didn’t work. Merci, À la prochaine!
😁
You and Lincoln have so many blessings with your Chateau but your driveway is magnificent!
The blue is 100 % better than the black. The black was a bit heavy. You have such a beautiful drive up to your chateau.
Whatever color you like best eill work for you, because after all you will see it the most. Love seeing the dogs and donkeys. I hope you get your well pump sorted and working. Stay cool in that heat. Your garden looks like it is already doing well.
Oh Lord, hate well problems. I was in my 100 yr old cottage six months, and yup! Out it went! I wish I had Lincoln for advise. Had a new well and pump put in! OMG! $6,000. Hopefully you can just replace the pump. Wish I had that option. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 The donkeys are just so sweet and you take such good care of them! Have you caught any more Feral’s for TNR?
The dark blue looks great! I’m not sure how Lincoln acquired such a diverse skill set, considered is precious job in finance. He’s very talented.
Yes, Lincoln is a very talented guy :)
Love your blogs. Blue
I vote for the blue! I have followed you since the beginning and love your sens of humor, dedication to your sympathetic restoration, your adoption of your animals and Lincoln's calm attitude and research on things like the pump system!
Blue. Definitely, Blue. I love your videos. Real. Genuine. Down to earth. And funny as well. Thank you. Blessings.
Loved your intro Amanda! 😂 BTW: I love black but, I choose blue for the doors.
I love the deep dark moody blue! it's very regal and will look great!!!
❤ the blue is the best it's easier on the eye the black is more modern and it's hard
I was never in love with the black but thought you would either make it work or decide that it was too strong a color for the nuances of a chateau. I like the blue very much.
Your animals are very happy with their owners! Donkeys, well, they just enjoy.
I’m going with whatever you choose, I’ve learned my lesson your choice always turns out to be perfect for your home.😊
I like the doors the same as the wall color with gilded trim. With contrasting doors, you just see DOOR DOOR DOOR DOOR instead of the feeling of the room.
I would paint the doors the same color as the wallpaper or a little bit lighter, so they blend into the wall
Replacing a well pump is expensive! Lincoln is so capable.
FYI, you always bridle them up and contact to a hook to groom them. It’s more effective & less stressful.❤️
You can get those extra long cloth light weight expandable hoses for your yard. You have to take them in during the winter but it would make your life so much easier during spring, summer, and fall. I have one for my yard. I am 78 and do not have the strength to drag a hose like you have! Just a thought!
The blue looks softer & more lovable long term. Love that Sandberg paper choice, looking forward to it.
In my old home we had a well, not as deep as yours, but I prefer the taste of well water. I think you are very fortunate to have access to that. The salon is going to be lovely. It's very funny how you always second guess your use of black. I like the black but its you who has to live with it and in the long run it is just paint which can be easily changed. Thanks for sharing and the laughs.
Gotta say, I like the blue paint, not as severe as the black paint. Had well water for my home as a kid. It was awful. But now a million years later and a semi adult, I wish I had my own well water for my garden. Much less $$$$. Your channel never disappoints! Thanks!
between the two colors, I'd go with the blue. Keep up the great work! I'm really impressed with your feral kitty work as well. Good luck with the well pump. It's always a treat to watch your lives and your animals on this channel.
Thank you very much!
About the colour: I'm also one to repaint stuff in several colours, so I know your struggle all too well. 😅 The blue is PROBABLY going to look awesome, like your other colours. At this point, however, I think I couldn't stop myself from putting up the wallpaper on one side first, to see how it really looks with the doors. Also, I just cant wait to see more of the wallpaper ... 😂
Your animals are all so blessed. So many of us feel the comfort of watching your creatures thrive in your care. Great choice with the blue doors and the beautiful wallpaper. You both do awesome work, indoors and out in your incredible gardens.
The blue looks better with the wallpaper you have chosen.
I always look forward to your videos as they never disappoint. Re: door colours - blue in this case. Trust your gut Amanda, because you have impeccable taste! Good luck with the pump and with the ferrier lol. Salutations du Canada 🇨🇦
I like the blue also. So did the €25 part fix the well pump?
Awesome vlog!! 3 things: 1. Wow, your garden is looking fantastic, 2. The blue or black door adds a chic look versus just blending in… love both but blue wins 😊, 3. I thought Lincoln was a finance exec? he is super handy 😮!!
Lincoln is amazing, he has many talents!
Out of the two, the blue.
Wish you find a replacement water pump as soon as possible.🤞🤞🤞🤞
I would paint the doors that beautiful light green color as the wood panels are and definitely not the black or the blue. The dark colored doors will draw the focus away from the beautiful wallpaper you selected.
Blue!!! The black sucks all the light and looks flat. The blue gives the door trim definition. Blue Blue...my door is blue, Blue is my door, da doobie doobie doooo
Love the Sandberg wallpaper. The wall color and blue doors are a perfect complement. Your easy conversations are delightful. So impressed with your ability to do so much, at a comfortable 'country' pace. Thanks for providing a transcipt (handy to find product names).
Thanks so much!
Love the blue doors, can’t wait to see the room completed. Enjoy your videos, and your grounds are beautiful!
I’m not giving my opinion on color because everything you have decided in the end has been just right for you . Your house, your many years in the super model industry, your exposure to trends and fashion puts you both in the perfect position in choosing.
2:00 Normally I wouldn't share my preference but since you asked, here goes. Neither blue nor black. My impulse is to lean towards colors that would have been used at the period the boiserie was made. It looks to me like late 18th century, maybe 1780s. For a start, the doors and their casings are part of the overall boiserie design and would have been given the same color treatment as the rest. Colors in that period tended to be light, with a contrast between the ground and the trim. If one was lighter the other was just a bit darker. Wallpaper had only recently been introduced so might or might not have been used. In those days wallpaper was not produced in rolls. It was made in small rectangles, typically around 2' by 4'. So it wasn't used over large areas. It might just have been used in the largest panel areas. But they would just as likely have been painted at that time, with paintings hung to fill the space. Gilding the trim was common. To get ideas on colors and combinations I suggest doing an internet image search for specific historic French buildings of the period that have been restored by the State. Look at buildings such as the Petit Trianon, the Belvedere at Versailles, the appartment de la dauphine at Versailles. Also do a search for "historic restoration Louis xvi boiserie" and you will see the colored interior drawings made by the original architects. Keep in mind how colors can accentuate or obscure the beauty of the trim details. Charcoal grey is an "in" color at the moment, which means that in 5 years it will be "so 2023!". I have no time for fads. Also the large, dark surfaces obscure the beauty of the trim. They reduce shadows. Thanks for listening to my rant. Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure you'll do something you love. That's the first priority. But since you asked...!
We used our well for all water including drinking. Had to pull our pump once & it stirred the dirt up a lot! It took weeks for it to clear!
Absolutely ❤❤❤your sense of humor of your opening line 😂. Your decision to go back with the blue door color is a good one. Blues are always calm and restful.
😁
The donkeys are adorable ☺️
I always love your videos😊
Glad you like them!
I agree with the comment below. Inside doors should be subtle, not the first thing one's eye is drawn to. The dark color may work with the wallpaper, but it won't get the attention it deserves.
Brushing them made them look so good
I saw on another vlog today that if you run a strip of tape (like electrical tape) down from the donkeys forehead to their nose, they will settle down and be comfortable with the brushing and the farrier. Who knew!
I love your donkeys, other than having them as big pets, are they useful to the management of the property?
Blue will go amazing with the wallpaper - great choice.
Neither blue nor black! The color that looks like grey on the wallpaper!
Our well kept losing pressure and switching itself off, it was the filter which needed a scrub with a toothbrush
Blue, definitely 💙. When you have beautiful doors, paint them accordingly.
Get a dowser. It’s an amazing experience. And magical. I am writing this before I hear the whole episode. Just love me my dowser!
BLUE
Blue ?Black? whatever you choose will be fab - I luv your style ❤
Definitely BLUE Amanda! Looking forward to seeing you soon…… once we get organised!
I love the blue! However your intro was the best! Love your sense of humor ... I love love love it.
Blue, it compliments the almond paint more.
I like the blue on the doors better than the black. And I love the shade of blue that you have chosen. I live in Southcentral Pennsylvania, our lawns are usually dried & brown in August, but many lawns have already become dried out.
I’m always partial to blue, just a tad lighter. You have to do what you like, I’m sure your husband and children, will help with your decision.
I think I prefer the blue, lighter, slightly softer too…
Blue! ❤
Definitively the blue - it's not as oppressive as the black on doors that size - and the room does not appear to be so large as not to feel overwhelming/suffocating with black doors after a while.
I like the almond colour i think it should be the same as the panels
