Too Wild for You? Haulover Inlent Boats
Haulover Inlet is a man-made channel in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It connects the northern end of Biscayne Bay with the Atlantic Ocean. The inlet was cut in 1925 through a narrow point in the sand between the cities of Bal Harbour and Sunny Isles.
The inlet entrance channel is 400 feet wide and 14 feet deep. It's dangerous to navigate because it features:
Sandbars
Rock walls
Strong tide currents
Gusty onshore winds
There is no speed limit at Haulover Inlet.

  • Why do Midnight Express boats handle the Haulover Inlet so well? Are the boats heavy or just well balanced? I've never seen one porpoise or struggle in heavy seas.

    • The extra tonnage would prevent severe buffeting, but I imagine it's mainly hull design. The skipper choosing the correct speed would also contribute too.

  • Hello. On Wensday 24th at around 1:00 p.m. I don't know if it was you that recorded me in my boat. I was wondering if their was any way to that I can get the recording of my boat because I would like a personal recording of my boat for myself. I could send you a picture of my boat so you can know which boat is mine.

  • Oh my...... These people must NOT have worked hard for their $ or they wouldn't treat their watercraft this way.

    • Ain't it crazy though? I just wonder how many transoms have been ripped off, motors, lower units, and stern drives litter the bottom in, and around this inlet. NOTHING is cheap when it comes to boats. I first operated a boat when I was ten years old...fifty years ago. My dad woulda made me go cut my own switch, then proceed to relieve my a** of some skin if I treated a boat that way (but, his real reasoning woulda been because of my stupidity putting myself, and possibly others, in danger rather than any boat damage).

  • One would constantly have to check for rounded out screws, leaking seals, hose connectors/clamps/fittings, electrical wiring, fuses, and popped rivets damn near every time you prepared to take your boat out...especially, the way these 'tards treat em. Having wealth matters not when it comes to boat repair. NOTHING is cheap. Not to mention how long it'd take for repairs to even start. A month-long waiting list isn't uncommon...at least inland it isn't.
