Papua New Guinean here. There were no cannibals at the time of WWII in PNG. We were part of the Allies. Lookup the Fuzzy Wazzy Angels, Yawiga, or Simogun? Even in the unlikely chance that precolonial cannibalism still existed in New Guinea in the 1940s, the belief was to eat the enemy, not an ally. If it was a Japanese, I'd think twice.
