Galaxy Buds Live Teardown: The Most Repairable Earbuds Yet?
Our Galaxy Beans giveaway has ended. Congrats to our winner, @CheapAsTech on Twitter! He guessed 720, the exact number of beans in our jar!
Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds Live (AKA Galaxy Beans) are the newest buds on the block, featuring a new open sound design, active noise cancellation, and up to 6 hours of battery life. Previous Galaxy Buds have been among the most repairable we’ve seen, so we’re curious to see what compromises their engineers may have had to make to bring this new form factor to life. Hopefully these things aren’t just full of glue.
Our Pro Tech Toolkit came in handy!

A few notes: 1. @0:16 those are Galaxy Buds+, not Buds Pro. 2. After filming, we learned that we have finally found replacement 1254 button-cell batteries to sell in our store! You can find them at the link in the description. 3. The reassembled buds work perfectly, and the sound quality doesn't seem to have been affected by displacing the speaker driver.
You should put the link with second point. Alot of people don't check the description.
Why 8?
There is no Buds “pro” 👀. But I get it lol
HATE TO SEE YOUR VIDEOS JUST BECAUSE OF YOUR VOICE VARIABLES, WHEN YOU RECORD YOURSELF, THE VOICE IS PERFECT BUT WHEN YOU TALK WHILE TEAR DOWN, FEELS LIKE YOU ARE TALKING INSIDE THE WATER
@@shkbh / I guess he was on a different mic setup, like pin mic?
the engineering effort they put in that tiny piece of tech is mind blowing
It's good to see they're not putting it to waste with a glued in battery :)
Ya, crazy engineering.
Sean Smith as if anyone will change the battery
yup. beautifully done
Ear phone "crazy engineering" wouldn't entail modular components, crazy engineering is making all the IC's integrated. Using lego-style connectors takes up valuable space.
i love how samsung embraces that they're beans
Yesssire and I like how they dont copy

@@lucasniamien873 Frowns in terrible touch controls
@@JotaroKujo-gw6ng the touch controls on all 3 generations of the galaxy buds are so damn sensitive, I tend to just turn them off.
This is good. The fact that you can always replace a broken part on this device is a step ahead. Good job 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗴
It’s good but I would think that probably 99.99999 percent of people including me would just go buy another pair without trying to fix them and chance scratching the outside or breaking something on the inside or not being able to glue them back good enough to still be water resistant. Or even be able to glue them back at all because of a chance of warping it by using a vise grip.
It’s honestly not worth the time and hassle to fix it.
@Michael Kevin Millet lmao, repair costs they charge so much. And they be like "oh sorry you cant afford? Its ok oay apple care EVERY MONTH so, the 0.1% chance u spoil your item and want to repair, u can have a small discount"
@@molarrr If it breaks in warranty no problem, and I expect like all products, in months it will also become cheaper, like the Galaxy plus buds
Yeah, especially for the price. I hate it when they design electronics as a disposable product.
Dang, those parts came out so cleanly and easily. They definitely didn't compromise on repairability with the new design.
It could have been a 10, why 8?
@@NaterFernat probably because of ease of getting the parts that you need and nitpicks like that, an 8 repairability score is really high
And for some reason they still make the phones hard to repair lmao. Superglued batteries
@@PokeLoomerTM about the batteries there is a soulution, use some alcohol and the glue will lost its effect, its not that hard
@@PokeLoomerTM they're not the only ones, it's a common problem among manufacturers
I was expecting a destructive opening, and I'm really surprised to see it's not and it's actually pretty easy to open

You did not read the title of the video right ?
High respect to the people engineered that tiny beans
I was expecting a clean teardown but not THIS clean. These are really small yet modular on the inside.
Pretty much the only buds that look good on the inside as well
It's pretty ironic when earbuds are becoming more repairable than phones itself lol
There's a difference between IPX2 and IP68
@@ungefeiert Even phones with no IP rating are less repairable than these. That explanation doesn't even begin to cover it.
@Vsatyk If you think phones becoming less repairable and less accessible to the user had to do with "complexity" and not widening manufacturer control and reducing the appeal of repairing a device as opposed to buying the new model, I have a bridge to sell you.
Where did the irony come from?...
Thank you for this video! I washed and dried my earbuds in the case by accident. The buds were fine, but when I was charging the case it kept saying 0%. I took the whole case apart down to the battery and just had to reconnect the battery connection piece. Put it all back together and they work just like new!
This video does not have the view count that it deserves, high quality tear-down and camera work as always.
For this Galaxy Buds+ I wasn't expecting this easy teardown, since they came out I thought they were going to be too difficult to get in. It's cool how Samsung combined advanced tech & design with an easy assemble for this high-end product. Since the beginning of the video I was starting to guess the Repairability Score (and I got it right!).
I'm buying these earbuds now because of this good review
Take heed Samsung! And Crapple? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Buy me a pair
Am an Apple guy.. But Am pretty damn sure my next earphones gonna be this one... just because of it’s repairability. I have an airpods but the right one battery is facked.. and u know the rest story..
Hopefully they'll make them more repairable in the future if they're touting being environmentally friendly
@@RennieAsh no they won't, if its repairable, its not profitable enough
Most peoplle never need to repair airpods. You are making sure that you will have a worse user expereinnce by sswitching to something that has a feature that you almost certainly wont need
Rafa Waik Who cares if it’s repairable. The software sucks and the integration is trash. iPhone is superior in the actual meaningful cases
Not really...please go on
Hi, you teardown this buds live are awesome and clearly to understand. Thanks for making great video. You are so genius.
I've been considering getting a pair of wireless earbuds, these are now my #1 pick, but we'll see how repairable the others are
Best I have had yet! So good I want a second pair
@@DJSH98989 I just bought a second pair after getting my first ones dialed in and proper fitment in my ear. Wow ! They sound good.
This video has helped me replace the battery on both beans and the case. So helpful. Thank you!
Wow they teardown was sooo easy and clean I took mine apart to clean them out from the inside. Put them back together and they sound pristine. So glad the battery replacement will be easy when that time comes
I bought these explicitly because they were repairable after watching this video...2 weeks later they went through the washer and dryer! omg. noooooo... they still worked but the case's battery wouldn't charge the beans anymore (case would charge beans via USB-C or wireless charging though). I took the case apart, nothing really to see that looked wrong, multimeter said battery had 3.7v...put case back together and it works now! SCHWING. This video rocks! The case battery is EB-BR800ABU, apparently it's the same battery as the 46mm Samsung Galaxy Watch. It'd have been super easy to change out if it had been cooked... Thanks iFixit
I love that beans in background! I'm surprised it was this easy to open :O
It's so satisfying to watch a smooth teardown.
Thanks man , it helped me deep clean them . Now they sound like new 👍
Was expecting my issue to be unrepairable but seeing how simple this is to disassemble is encouraging
what a great review. you guys are really helpful and explains how to disassembly in a detailed way. loved it ! although, it would be nice if you guys mentioned where or if we can find the battery replacement for the case. there's so many tws on the market right now, and they never mentioned about repairability. I follow your teardowns on wireless earbuds and it was an eye-opening to see how most of them designed it to be disposable within 2-3 years. so thanks for this breakdown.
Good point
These are my everyday go to wireless earphones. I love how the ANC on these remove just the annoying noises you get on train, airplanes, bus, etc without drowning out all noises making them a great pair of earphones to wear while travelling and exercising. Plus this design is genius. I loved the original airpods because of how easily they fit in my ear without having to squeeze in a rubber/foam tip that becomes uncomfortable after couple hours in ear. But this design fits even better and is even more comfortable and can wear all day long without ear fatigue.
Most people don't understand the ANC used. I agree with your comments. From Samsung website Keep the noise out but let the world in with the first Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) on these open type, true wireless Galaxy Buds Live. ANC reduces background noises without missing what’s important, like voices and announcements, so you hear more of what you want to hear-with just a long press to turn it on.
1:25 and so the truth is revealed
thank you for sharing the bud tear down, the reason I watched your video as I forgot mine inside my jeans pocket then washed it, I was so desperate so I watched this video, after following the teardown and tried to dry my buds, they are working normally, THANKS, big-time guys!!! (I'm not a repairman) just a normal guy that wants to fix my buds.
I love my Galaxy Buds Live...its been about a week now and I am super pleased!
finally an almost mess-less disassembly, it's good to see a product that is repair/recycle-friendly and not drowned in tons of adhesive for monopoly purpose.
Kudos to Samsung for giving these a more sustainable design.
WOW! Well done Samsung! Keep it up! Woohoo!
Thanks for the teardown it really helped me to buys the buds
I'm glad it's as simple as that to take apart. One of these suckers "froze", so I had to peel it apart and disconnect the battery to reset it.
I like your explanation and the video structure, please may you tell me how did your learn to repair or analyze the different parts.
I've been waiting for the confirmation of its repairability. Buying one right now.
I'm impressed by how samsung organized the tech inside making it easier to fix while having an Iprating aswell
I took them apart on my own I do wanna throw a warning be very careful with the motherboards if you have any problems with the case it is very very easy to get into and fix I love it even the hinge is easy to replace
Come to think of it, a couple decades back, this would've been considered impossible or (limited to the technology at the time)
I just LOVE the X-Ray images!
Good job with easy disassembly and future repair. This is the right way. :)
this must be the most repairable tech out there... id give it a 10/10
I bought a pair within a few months of this video being posted. Just wanted to say they are still working well.
aaaah dang it... my motherboard from the case is done. Hope they sell the part. Thanks for the video
so far this is the most satisfying teardown I have ever seen
That helped. Tysm man!!! 🔥
So the battery that is used in the case can also been found in de galaxy watch SM-R800 So the replacement batterij can be found easily.
You saved me! i had a problem with my right bud, after viewing this video i opened my bud and fix it, thank you so much
Thank you so much I was able to fix mine
Well done! Is there any electronic parts in the shell or can I just dunk it in a cup of detergent water to wash out the oils and mesh? Thanks again.
Impressively engineered. Not bad Samsung. Thought they were funky looking at first but I am enjoying them very much.
When I saw the battery in the bud, i tried to estimate the battery capacity in the case and came with a number between 1.5 and 2.0 wh. Glad not to have missed by a large margin
My wife just washed my blue ones with the case.. Tried drying them really good. The case don't charge a the left one wont charge. I'm might too trash them. I probably go to a Ifixit place before I trash them. Man.... love these buds.
Where have u been all my life?! Ur awesome
Nice to see decent repairability in something so tiny!
Awesome engineering !!
That should be 10/10 really how much more repairable can you expect? over 100%?
All the stuff is beautiful
Hey, I'm a fan from Taiwan. Recently my mom found an old speaker out from cupboard ------ HTC boombass. It was an amazing device with nice bass effect to use with HTC's phones, unfortunately today's phones are not supportable to this speaker, so I'd like to try to disassemble it then change into a real Bluetooth speaker (not only for bass). Wish ifixit could have a video for teardown it. Biggest thanks from Taiwan!!
The way Taylor enunciates is like ASMR to me
this new teardown video style is Cool. waiting for PS5 Teardown next year :)
This is amazing I am impressed.
THanks so much my ear buds were caught in a wash and was unusable, thanks you're a life saver
These earbuds are beautiful either inside or outside.
These channel deserves 1M subs atleast. Let's get them there.
Pro tip!, you can used the Eve + battery on the regular galaxy buds onto your galaxy buds live
Thank you so much for doing this video. This was the video I was waiting for before deciding in purchasing! Samsung is really putting other brands to shame with how repairable their products are.
Let's just ignore their smartphone batteries
I guess now you could flex on your Samsung galaxy _”beans”_
Could you do a teardown of the panasonic true wireless earbuds? :D
Can't wait for your Surface Duo teardown! 😉
Thank you!!
To go the extra mile, know that the inside of the lid pops as easily as the bottom part. It's extremely handy as a fall can send the magnet responsible to hold the clam shut on the two magnets holding the buds in place. The tape fixing the aforementioned magnet in place is weaker than the magnetic fields of the two magnets. I am so relieved to have been able to fix the thing myself without breaking the case. HUGE KUDOS to Samsung on this one !
Thanks to this guide i fixed my liquid damaged Galaxy beans live thanks.
Il be honest i was surprised with how good the buds live sound. Sure my sony ones are better but for the size and price these do a great job. I got them for free as well as a redemption for buying the note 20 ultra.
Looking forward to the teardown of surface earbuds.
What about changing the case charge pins? I have one that is loose, and you can see the spring underneath exposed? Is there a way to replace the pins?
WOW so easy to open up!
be interested if its possible to add custom tips for a more secure fit and added noise isolation. Maybe would need to mod the battery case housing to fit them
Watching this with my buds live
You should give at least 9 though the video is amazing...great job.
nice modular design..good job samsung
This is why i love samsung products. Way ahead of its time
My GSD chew one of the beans. He basically pop out the covering of it and chew top of the cover whereas bottom part of bud looks pretty intact. It's starting charging but doesn't connect to any device.
Really love all that pink on the inside of those buds!
look like our kidney
Retrobellite Lol good point 😂😂😂
wow... thank you!
Please do a teardown of the new Sony WH 1000XM 4. It'll be really helpful. Thanks!
can you give us the list of components (IC names ) that were used
Super explanation
Hi , is it possible to replace the spring contacts in the charge case ( one of mine has broken) buds live.?
I was waiting for this!!!
I have the Google Pixel Buds 2nd Gen. Looking forward to seeing a teardown. The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live (Beans) look kinda goofy. I want someone to model them in there ears to see if they really stay in your ears.
Honestly, I am impressed.
Know where to find a new speaker for the buds? The speaker on my right buds live is low.
This teardown answers my questions of how this thing didnt broke from the inside even tho i accidentally dropped it multiple times now.. also the inside looks like a mini phone parts
those beans in the background... I felt that
i hope these dont have the same problem iv had with all galaxy buds in the past( leading all the way back to icon x 2018) the right ear bud always starts to slow lose sound, even now the galaxy buds i use every day the right ear has about 50-60% volume compared to the left ear
You have done good job.
Imagine a see trough one of these
I have lost my case for the buds, is there a way to make a new case or a cusrom charging solution?
anybody see where the wireless antenna is located? no mention of it in the video, super curious how the wireless connection is implemented...does the circuitboard with broadcom chip act as antenna?
What about the top of the case? Want to know if there is room to put a Tile Sticker tracker 27mm x 7.3mm inside of the case.
