Footage of our surf ski group in Margaret River WA over a couple of sessions during Autumn 2021. Paddlers are Adam Bancroft, Bob Bucat, Bernie Abbott, Paul Lane, Simon Lentjes, Mark Messenger, Glenn Willmott and myself. Drone footage by Jamie Scott Images. Many thanks to my cousin Tom Worsley who edited the footage to create this clip.
nice one gents, great footage, well edited and great soundtrack ... what a planet! lets all care for country: but we need to vote for leaders who feel the same ...
Totally agree with you Ray
Good ole Aussies Sending it!! Nice work. Some of those waves are HUGE!
That's a big wave. I thought I'd stacked it in most of the ways possible, now I see you guys taking skis over the falls. Challenge accepted.
I keep watching this over and over ... the music is a perfect accompaniment ... Iʻve got a V7 that Iʻm finally comfy in in conditions ... this is up next on my learning curve ... starting small, of course ...
V7 is an excellent ski, I've got a V5, with a surf rudder, a great surfer too.
@@josuedelucca7252 thanks for the info! I have the standard rudder. Should I invest in a surf rudder then? How would that work with racing?
@Sophia Sotelo glad to be of help! The surf rudder is a great tool for surfing and good downwind runs. The standard rudder, I found, is excellent for flat water, sheds small weeds and can work in mild down wind runs too. For racing, I believe that having options to choose from, depending on the course and conditions, is the way. So, having the standard and surf rudders will be a good starting point. I also have a third rudder, which creates a bit more drag, and is my training rudder in some instances.
Guy on the Standup paddle board finally getting a taste of his own medicine
That's the best surfski wave riding I have seen!!! perfect!!!
This is so incredible perfect footage feeling and song well done!!!
That is some epic footage! Some great skills in the surf there!
WOW!!! Really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like heaven on earth.
Awesome waves! Nothing like that in my area but I'd love to get on some waves like that (after I get some more experience). Fantastic video!
Thanks for sharing. It’s good to see that even the best paddlers capsize sometimes.
I am so jealous. Awesome to watch - thanks for sharing you v lucky people
Fantastic, thank you for sharing
That looks so much fun - bring on the Poles, Hayle River Mouth! Well nearly!
just a great video with quality music blended in with the action. Top job
Tripping the light fantastic on a roto molded plastic! :-) Awesome video.
So cool. Went out there February of 1980 on my trusty Hayden Mark III. You made an old Yank's day seeing this.
best video of big wave surfski on youtube
Ya and Hoo ... perfect water and great skills
That final shot was sweet.
This is wild. Well done guys. Love the sound track. 👍
Magic movie plus the musical genius of Asaf Avidan!!!!
I wish we had waves like that here in Miami...
Miami would be underwater! 🙄
Well played boys. Making it look easy. Primo.
Amazing! I'm down there Decmber 13 with my ski dead keen to get a paddle in.
Great surf! I'd hang out there all day!
Great videography
Very cool!
Respect!
Epic!
Epic. I was not able to get a session like this in this year so far unfortunately
We're hoping for some decent swell lines into winter....
Clean lines.
Love your work guys and the effort gone to in getting great drone and onboard video. I just picked up a new ski for exactly this sort of fun in the South West. Have you done any Cowaramup trips?
Not yet but on the list Brett!
@@hamishworsley6310 I’m in Rockingham but I’d move heaven and earth to join you guys when you get word the swells up. If you’re on FB look up Paddler Brett and get in touch
I was unaware they made trips in cow town !!
Fckn awesome….got to get out there on my Spirit 🤣
I've easily seen this video over 25 times
also I need to know what brand of leashes you guys use!!!!
Me too 😂
Awesome guys. Curious.. did you go leashless? Any issues losing the boats/long swims in wipeouts? Also noticed no pfds, presumably to be able to duck diver under?
Hi Mark. We generally are leashless (except small waves in crowded areas) but you're right, this means some pretty long swims! We have trialed a leash a few times but I think it increases the risk in bigger surf (straining your hip or being dragged underwater with your boat). We counter that by going out in a group of at least two, so one can generally help with the boat rescue! We are also increasingly wearing impact vests, which help provide some protection and buoyancy but still let you dive.
Rippa vid boys!
can l ask why most of the ski's were spirt plastic and not the Fenn or Epic. Because the can take more of a pounding ? Enjoyed the video
Hi Keith, yes exactly. The spirit boats can take the pounding and we have a plastic welder to remould and fix them when needed. For smaller waves / downwind when you want the extra speed, the fibreglass or carbon boats would be better. cheers Hamish

Wow! I do want to suggest surf handles for your boats. These are nylon straps with knots in them that tie to your hard handles and clear the end of your boat. The strap bounces along in the water and does not significantly slow you down. When you cash you have and easy way to grip your boat at the end without the end of the boat beating your hands up. Very handy if you get causght on the inside out of your boat.
Thanks Frank, that's a good call. Holding the boat after a stack is always a challenge and often we just let them go if its pretty big and take the swim! We have used leg-ropes but they can tangle you up and drag you with the boat in big surf, which is not ideal!
Nice, Hamish...! What kind of skis are those that they aren't in a thousand pieces? Plastics?
We use a Spirit PRS 570, which is a plastic. We ding them a lot and they just keep giving!
@@hamishworsley6310 - I haven't been able to find a website for Spirit. Are they still in business? (great video)
Question.. for surf ski persons.. do you guys wear a leash attaching you to the ski?. Or do you just use paddle leash ??
No leash on the bigger waves Craig - when you get hammered best to be separate from the boat! However smaller surf, especially windy days, yes you can have one and attach to the back of the boat. We don't typically use paddle leash but definitely got to hang onto that paddle when you come off - so it's an option to use one.
Is it possible to know the models of the surfskis in the video? For sure, for example, i can see an EPIC one. But which model?
We are mainly using a Spirit PRS 570. These are plastic, which we prefer given the waves and reef could break lighter craft
@@hamishworsley6310 i wish we could have waves like those, here in Italy... Surfski is the most entertaining and fun sport in the world
Watch out, I bet there are huge sharks out there in WA
Nice
Foilers wave!
Hey there, got some pics today, perhaps you guys at Kilcarnup from the air. Let me know if you wanna see
That would be great. Was that Saturday 3rd - pretty big swell!
Seems like great fun...but it's a shame that you have to avoid the best part of the wave to survive..... Foot Pedal operated rudders, maybe just behind paddler and move the center board forward ? Please send royalties...lol
A few cut offs. Why not stopping everyone trying to catch the same wave?
UHUH!!!!
Tell me you're Aussie without telling me you're Aussie: ADZ BERN BOBBY GUP HAMO LANEY MESS SIME paddling in shark infested waters 🌊🚣🏼♂️
Well I thought the comment "Here she comes!" also was a bit of a giveaway!
So jealous..
Why wouldn’t you just surf it
They did.
I surf but not at prevely lol well they are so powerful but Perth is gentler
horrible music, really??? That was the best you could find?
