"A Saucerful of Secrets" was titled "The Massed Gadgets of Hercules" in its earliest performance and became a Pink Floyd live staple from 1968--72. A live version of the track is available on their 1969 double album Ummagumma, and an alternative version is seen and heard in the film Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii,

  • I love how they're here performing in an empty Roman Amphitheatre, in the middle of a ruined city, playing only for the ghosts of the Romans, while the wind blows the sand and their long hair, while David cries to the ghosts with all his passion, communicating with them. Reenacting their woeful cries as they were engulfed in fire. This is what this performance means to me. This is why they're really here.
