Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time I'm looking at what I believe to be the pinnacle of video game visuals and technology. This is Cyberpunk 2077 with some serious mods to it's built in path-tracing. This technology is relegated currently to the highest end cards at the moment and it's understandable why. How visuals can get any better? I honestly don't know. Thanks for watching!

That's the point, the next step in videogame graphics evolution is moving away from realism to more colorful and fictional styles that could actually get more detailing than real world could ever get
oh man imagine how RTX has progressed when GTA6 is released. its an opportunity for Nvidia to market the most long awaited game

Me at 360p: 🗿
Graphics are nice and all but the gameplay is mediocre. The best breakthrough for video game graphics to me was when Battlefield 3 was announced. It still looks if not better than Cyberpunk.
btw one of the reasons why it looks so good is that it kind of emulates old-school low dynamic range graphics where details in the shadows get crushed and you get black spots. That's literally how so many of rennaisance painters achieved the realistic look - detail in the lights, lack of detail in the shadows. It's so prevalent that many artists do exercises where they try to communicate light and shadow only through the level of detail and no change in values. It's a good exercise. This crushing of detail in the shadows and making them high contrast relative to the rest of the image is also why some old movies, like Pirates of The Caribbean 2 have aged so well - lots of detail in the light, shadows are nearly pure black. This is where the feeling of realism lies - the contrast of detail between lit and unlit places. It's also why many new movies and games kinda look bland - because their lit and unlit areas have equal exposure, equal contrast, equal level of detail. You gotta crush that detail, you have to have low dynamic range for it to feel realistic.
loved this comment. thank you for sharing
not sure if you know a decent amount with GPUs, but are modern/recent high end GPUs making it possible to do these sort of techniques better? i often hear a lot of criticism toward the hype of new GPUs and i wonder if there’s more of a story i don’t know about.

Now that lighting and textures are so close to being functionally solved, the next step is fully dynamic soft body physics.
CPU's need to catch up to the new GPU's. The next big development in gaming will be enhanced physics simulation. Current physics still breaks the immersion. Sad that CD Projekt Red is transitioning to Unreal Engine 5 though
@@samson7294 Yeah, whenever I see these visually ultra-realistic game videos, they are usually easily given away, if not by something being "wrong" with the general movement of objects, they will definitely be given away by in-game objects interacting in ways that make no sense in the real world.

I think the problem with these realistic graphics is that every one of them is in overcast, I would like to take a look when it is super sunny. It's like the GTA mod with water puddles everywhere, now its muted colors + overcast weather.
The problem is that they can't shine in those circumstances because you really have to have a super bright display in order for it to come across. Like multiple thousands of nits. And we just dont have displys like that commonly.

Its because montors today are not up to standard of HDR 10 bit colors with Path tracing and lighting mods. 99% monitors don't have hardware to completely backlight entire screen where if lack of light from game in a dark corner it would completely turn off the light pixel. The most expensive monitors that have pixel by pixel lighting for HDR 10 is extremely rare still today so you can't completely get entire dark backlight and complete max lumens lit pixels for full sunny day scenery.

1:33 quick point: path tracing (which is a type of ray tracing) is not NVIDIA specific. It’s simply an alternative graphics rendering technique (for example like rasterization) that more accurately simulates how light interacts with a given scene. You can do path tracing on current AMD and Intel GPUs, however it currently runs with higher performance and fidelity (tier for tier) on current NVIDIA GPUs due to their better hardware acceleration for ray tracing as well as software capabilities such as Nvidia’s “ray reconstruction” feature.
I wish Nvidia didn’t push PTX so hard to sell new cards. They made so many optimizations to RTX as prep work that standard RT runs magnitudes faster now than it did 4 years ago on any hardware. The initial previews and demo of RTXDI were mindblowing, only for it’s true strength to by trivialized in the mainstream by PTX workloads. All we have to show for it now is The Finals’ RT Static setting as far as seeing it outside of the demo and the game engines. If they really wanted to sell more cards they’d have went back and updated initial RT titles with their new tech (ReStir, RTXDI, OMM, SER, updated algorithms etc). The fact they didn’t even drop the optimizations and updated tech into CP2077 post Overdrive release really shows Nvidia’s intentions. They say they want RT to replace raster as the de-facto default rendering for game devs, but yet the try so hard to make it inaccessible at all times.
u definitely have an amd card🤣
I have over 80 different mods on Cyberpunk. It literally stops me in the middle of missions at how distractingly real the graphics are now. It's mindblowing. I've had to edit out dead bodies in pics i send people just in case the wrong person sees it out of context and doesn't know it was from a game.
I love the blur graphics
Me neither
The bodycam video has this one more thing that it's not locked to the weapon. Honestly, camera movement is probably the most unrecognized powerful tool that can turn some of the most basic gameplay into a super intense, immersive experience, and finally it's getting some heat. If you changed just a bunch of things about the head movement in CP2077, you'd see it as a totally new game. Weapon sway that's independent of camera sway is the new shiny reflections of a wet surface in GTA V gameplay videos.
devs know it. also it was pretty common before and all wii fps obviously had the free head movement as how its called. the thing is it can only be used on Mouse and keyboard and ask for different bind on the said keyboard to control the arm for aim and the head for looking. without considering the fact that no dev will make a game so expensive today computer only, games today use a lot of key and shorcut input while playing. its like shifting your head in r6 or pubg but making it on 6 degrees. nice for a mod but an absolute hasle that will crucifie devs despite how cool it looks because its actually just that, cool looking andway less practical and reactive for a modern audience.
The Red Orchestra series has done that for ages. Wish it would come back.
The thing that sets Unrecord apart from other games is acknowledging the existence of the camera. It has been part of vfx for years but not games as often. Paying attention to how the camera reacts to light with lens flares, clipping, auto exposure, and shutter speed etc backed by science is what gets you 80% of the way there. And most of those things are post processing. Even if you have crappy textures and no ray tracing it will still look amazing. Think about simulation games, where people are often fooled thinking it’s real war footage. Upon closer inspection it’s like ps2 level models but the color is spot on so on a phone it looks genuinely real.
@@atch300 well no. It's not the camera, at least not just that. The entire video of muta looks insanely good and it wasn't always with the fisheye preset. Unrecorded use lumen lighting system (probably the hardware accelerated version for the trailers) that is basically Raytraced Global illumination, reflection and Ambiant occlusion, making the scene and everything in grounded with the rest. It use a nanite system making virtually no popin or lod issue on screen and giving extremely high rez texture and giving them that "looks like real life" look (like the matrix unreal demo or the city sample). It also use free hand and a fisheye effect for the camera look making that "dash cam" or "documentary look" i don't know the English term. All other effect are vanilla unreal asset like motion blur, chromatic aberration, lense flare etc. As a game designer i learned how light and lighting makes the eye perceive something not real to "plausible" because what is actually the game changing thing about Raytracing isn't the flashiness or the eye catching or whatever get a good thumbnail, but the consistency. That's why Raytracing is always good in motion while the brain will get distracted by rasterized artefact. Anw it's a pretty long and complex topic but tldr, it's a sum of part and you give minecraft that camera setup it will still look like minecraft, but you play around minecraft rtx and you see a completely different game. Hope it's clearer.
@@Ast0sH yeah you’re right the consistency is definitely important. I was speaking from the perspective of a vfx artist rather than a game designer so we probably appreciate different things. Imo what muta was playing doesn’t look all that good even with the fish eye stuff.

9:57 good old cyberpunk
The only thing with cyberpunk now is that they need 10x the traffic and npcs in the city. It doesn’t feel too immersive when there are 4 cars on a main city junction haha
We have seen graphics even beyond something like this for years but we've grown accustomed to it or not even knowing when we're viewing renders. 3D artist who do high-end offline rendering have had access to lighting models that look so lifelike it sometimes takes a while to pick up you're watching a render even if you work the field. Difference is how this stuff is now becoming available in realtime. Any old 3D model placed under convincing ambient light and with high quality bounced light in the scene will look highly realistic, Lara from Tomb Raider 1 rendered in keyshot will look like a physically real plastic/pepakura model or something, the quality of light is the number one contributor to how physically real something you look at is perceived.
Overcast is also good for renders if you're looking to get (mostly) even light distribution. It's cool seeing this also improves overall quality since the game can prioritize its path-tracing with less of a load. The crash was your PC saying "Hey wtf? We had a good thing going there!"

It's possible to make a reshade plugin that makes it not affect the UI, only the game world, so you could use the UI without the fisheye effect while still having it in game. It requires a special version of reshade that has plugin support, but it works exactly the same. I do think graphics are gonna reach an unbreakable peak VERY soon.
Stills / screenshots from games are going to get photorealistic, but there's more than a decade to go before we have proper physics, which will be the main thing that completes the effect. When things don't interact exactly as you expect IRL, it will break the immersion
Not soon. GTA 6 will be better than this and everything else currently. But gta 6 will not be peak. Peak graphics is when games start to look like pre rendered graphics
@@balloonb0y677 I don't think it will -- GTA was never meant to be hyper-realistic. The arcade-y feel to it is largely BECAUSE it's not realistic (including visually). Shockingly, I think that GTA would bomb if they were to drastically improve the graphics from GTA 5.

My big issue with the path tracing is the flickering between blurry and crystal clear reflections when driving, i can see it in the video too. still looks amazing though
LUT mods are very awesome in games like cyberpunk, especially with the path tracing mode
unrecorded just needs a slightly wider FOV. bodycams are usually wider, but that view in the game looked like it was a 35mm lens lol
A big help for people with less powerful cars. You only need a powerful gpu for the pathtracing and raytracing. Anyone can use the LUT mods to make the game less vibrant and more photorealistic. It does not attack the performance at all.
In die hard 1, they were using a filter to make the landscape and environment look more tropical like. Especially in the beginning scenes where mcclane drives to the nakatomi building
I have been deep into cyberpunk 2077 since launch, keep replaying it just due to how realistic it is, and truly next gen effects now its simply amazing!
there is in fact a 2077 mod for more nps's it's called night city alive. it wont really affect performance if you're gpu bound since it will just get more cpu heavy.
How ironic you uploaded this video when you did. I got a steam card for this Valentines Day from my wife and was trying to decide what to buy. I narrowed it to flight simulator 2020 or Cyberpunk 2077, I ultimately got Cyberpunk. I started seeing these photorealistic mod videos popup as well so I decided to try it and I used the vortex mod manager to grab the high res graphics pack mod collection which gives almost all game assets 4k AI upscaled materials, Novalut supernova , NovaLUT PT Environment for enhanced raytraced environment lighting, and Edge Lut (Edge LUT is free and gives almost the same effects, depth of field, etc as the paid nextgendreams mod). Ive barely been playing the game, mostly walking around gawking at the level of detail, its truly insane. It runs very well at 1080p on my system, intermittently choppy in 1440p, and bad in 4k (I usually play at 1440p anyways). Im running a core I7 13700k, 32gb, RTX 4080 OC
same bro, i saw these videos a while back and my initial reaction was same. but when i watched the video, i was stunned at how good this graphics can be.
We've come so far with graphics. There's times I've had to take second glances at Gran Turismo 7 or Forza Horizon 5 screenshots. Its little things like tire textures that give it away. But honestly. How much further can we go? Everyone is so hooked on graphics i feel like we're gonna hit the wall sooner than later
I've recently bought HP Victus fa0087ne: i5-12500H, GTX 1650, 8 GB RAM (currently upgraded to x2 sticks 16 GB, with a total of 32 GB RAM DDR4), 1 TB SSD and a 144 Hz screen, pre-installed Win 11 x64 bit. Do I have any hopes or chances running GTA 6 with 30-60 FPS?!
I have it and it is ridiculous. There are only a few textures that give it away. The trunk of one of the cars I was driving was reflecting the wrong direction. It's stuff like that I probably wouldn't have noticed just playing.
I love this, but, mixed feelings on price of machine to run it, arrrr, it's a dream. back when I was playing morrowind I thought that was peak gaming but seeing the evolution over the years has been amazing. I used to be able to keep up with tech but, not anymore, with video cards costing over 1k easy, then I have to upgrade to AM5 and lol yeah I will second hand enjoy for now. Great vid.

I think some games just go way too overboard with particle effects. It makes sense in combat situations where bullets are hitting surfaces, and grenades are blowing shit up, But you'll go stand in a field somewhere and there will be leaves and grass and shit blowing around and swirling in the wind. If you go stand in a field somewhere in real life and just look around, You might see a couple of leaves blow by but that's about it.
