  • What does a person do when they have the opposite experience where they do it then watch somebody else but then find out what the person did was much better than what they watched. I had that many times where I actually did much better than others at something.

    • I've noticed this pattern in your replies. You seem to think that your applications are perfect, your skills are better than others, and that you don't have the ability to improve based upon what you've said in comments. Here's the thing: ultimately, you don't get to decide that. Others do. Here's what I would encourage you to do: put your content out in the world to be evaluated. Create an open source project. Build a commercial application. Create something that others can use. Then use that as a means of evaluating your skills. If people don't like it or don't use it, you haven't arrived yet. Learn from it and get better. Build something people actually want to use. Don't fall into the trap of blaming everyone else, though. If no one uses your application, it isn't their fault. If people try your applications but stop using them, it isn't their fault. Part of being a developer is identifying needs and solving them. If no one wants to use your application, you need to figure out what you can do to better meet their needs rather than blaming them.

  • At first don't try to make something too complex or unique - make something that you can find examples and better versions of. Then you can build up your skills and library... I make this mistake a lot.

  • Forget all of them. Follow Apple's UI guidelines.

    • I'm not sure how you are seeing the relationship between the two. First, just following a specific UI guideline is a way to follow, not innovate or improve your skills. Second, we are talking about improving at anything. We aren't just talking about how to design user interfaces. It is an example to show the pattern.
