Some of my fav scenes from the film The Fifth Element - Ft ( Chris Tucker) Ruby Rhod - 1997
in the 23rd century, a New York City cabbie, Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis), finds the fate of the world in his hands when Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) falls into his cab. As the embodiment of the fifth element, Leeloo needs to combine with the other four to keep the approaching Great Evil from destroying the world. Together with Father Vito Cornelius (Ian Holm) and zany broadcaster Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker), Dallas must race against time and the wicked industrialist Zorg (Gary Oldman) to save humanity.

  • A lot of critics felt Ruby's character wasn't needed, but I thought Tucker was hilarious and added a vital comedic touch to what is a wild movie. Love this flick.

    • @Pariah He was needed because without him this movie would’ve been another 90’s action flick. Ruby is literally how some celebrities are today, talentless gossipers who treat people like ants. But he was useful because he held the stones and his commentary gave wind to what was happening around them.

    • It’s often these “unnecessary parts” that make the film memorable. I would fight hard to keep these characters in when an exec tries to challenge me as a director.

    • Ruby was carrying the stones for him leaving Korben's hands free to fight and shoot also though he doesn't know it Ruby's stream is the only intelligence the government and military has to what's happening. Which is really shitty when you think about it. Korben has no backup and no comms for this mission. Granted If he'd let his old commander actually set it up he may have had something like that.

    • I've always told people this! The 90s had the ultimate film line ups. The action films were so original and inventive. From Goldeneye, to True Lies, to this movie. I loved the 90s era. They didn't take themselves too seriously but wasn't cringey comedy as they have now.

I adore this movie, love every character, Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker, Milla Jovovich (I was in love with her when I first watched that movie), Father (don't know the actor's name), Gary Oldman, Korben Dallas' commander, the doctors regenerating Leeloo (Dallas Multipass) from the hand, AZIS!!!! LIGHT!!!! Hell, the whole movie was just awesome, what else is there to say?

  • For those who don't know, the legendary PRINCE was supposed to play Ruby Rhod in this film, but he thought the costumes were "too effeminate" (his words). LOL. Anyway, I'm glad Chris Tucker got the job, he was absolutely stellar.

  • Chris Tucker was what this movie needed in terms of comic relief for the second half of this movie. One of the reasons Fifth Element is one of my favorite movies is because the director knew when to be serious and when we just needed a great laugh. To this day watching this movie i still get sucked into the drama, laugh out loud and cry during the ending.

  • Several things. 1. Corbin must have some super strength if he was able to put that Mangalore head through a concrete floor just by playing see-saw. 2. Who knew they made bullet proof pool tables. 3. Ruby is giving away all of Corbins moves on air. Thank goodness none of the mangs were listening.

  • I need to re-watch this movie again, but still, the most memorable parts for me will always be multipass, the diva, fight, song, and Chris Tucker! Absolutely love his zzhzzz! Whatever the sounds, he makes are. This was just such a fun movie and his outrageous reactions also sometimes mirrored the audience as well.
