Introducing A THOUSAND SUNS, a mind-bending science fiction anthology series of short stories that explores visions of humanity’s future, shaped by the actions of our world today: a gateway to our hopes, dreams and nightmares.
The series was created by Macgregor and produced by BlackMilk Studio. The first six episodes were directed by Ruairi Robinson, Macgregor, Tyson Wade Johnston and Tim Hyten, written in collaboration with screenwriter Philip Gelatt.

DEAL - Episode 4
Directed by Macgregor
Written by Phil Gelatt
Synopsis:
Chased across an increasingly harsh landscape, a lone rebel goes to ground, only to find herself face-to-face with older, darker, forces.
Director Quote:
We spent weeks choreographing a sequence inspired by the sharp, fast-cut movements of Japanese warrior films, mixed with the rough brutality of Scandinavian culture. It's a unique fusion, half samurai elegance and half Viking ferocity.

  • I’m a big sci-fi enthusiast, and these episodes are way above current Hollywood movies. You manage to tell enough so the audience understands the context, but also let enough space to figure some stuff out. It’s a perfect balance. I hate movies where the audience is treated like a child. Your story telling style is perfect. I also love the visual effects and atmosphere. I’m happy I discovered your channel.

    • Comparing a short film with a full length movie isn't the same, sci fi shorts work so well because the story tellers doesn't have the responsibility to conclude the tale. Id be more impressed if they managed to fill a 1 hour and 30 min movie using this concept

      @holostro@holostroАй бұрын
    • @@holostrothere are plenty of full length movies with an open end. On the same note, the first episode of this series had a pretty clear conclusion. It's not like the lack of conclusion makes this series so compelling.

  • This is the future of entertainment. The big production companies no longer know how to tell a story. How to hook the audience and keep them interested. Everything today is fast edits and scene jumping. Dune is a masterful exception to this rule. Expansive environments. Extended shots that keep you fixated on the action. These smaller production houses are far more like that.

    • Whenever I hear "this is the future of" anything, I always think : what about right now? Have you generated mass interest right now? They usually never have. Anywho, the format failed in the late 60's, 90's, late 00's, and it'll most likely fail again. It's not the future of amything yet.

    • Exactly. Most marvel or dc films have too many similar humor scenes, over used, cringe cgi that looks way too bad. Dune 1 and 2 are my favourite movies. Interstellar close behind. Those are true masterpieces. Tenet, Oppenheimer, John Wick, Equalizer are amazing too. But many big studios just dont deserve the money they have. They have too much, and start destroying themselves. As entertaining as the films can be sometimes, its just all the same and cringe. This is PURE ART

    • @@videolabguy A good story has a beginning, a middle, and an end < this does follow those specific criteria though... This might be an 'okay' story(youth would call it mid), instead of a 'good' one. (Mainly talking from a writing perspective in general, and not as a screenwriter) A few things come to mind, but the lack of a basic story beat is not the reason. You could argue that it lacks a conclusion, but that is by no means a requirement. If I were to guess, as a self-taught writer, the person writing is just winging it and is more interested in the filming and visual process. He'd benefit from having an actual writer on board. Even if it's only to go through his script and point stuff out. You do not have to do everything yourself :) Some people will do that for free, though there's a risk of them stealing ideas unless you write a contract.

      @Mindboggles@Mindboggles6 күн бұрын
    • @@beepboop8184 While it's not because of the reasons he stated, this isn't good writing. It's okay writing, and I am being a bit generous there. It's still a decent short film because it's made up for in other departments.

Criticisms about coherent story and the practicality of crossing hundreds of miles of biome while critically injured are justified but not really relevant. As a showcase for what is possible on a micro budget these are outstanding. I look forward to seeing more. One thing that would be interesting would be a short companion film to each episode showing how the FX shots were done.
