4 reasons why I decided NOT to buy the Tail Air

Despite its impressive features, which I've praised in a previous video, there are a few key areas where it falls short for me. In this video I share my 4 reasons as to why I won't be adding the OBSBOT Tail Air to my studio setup.
📷 First up, I discuss the image quality. While the Obsbot Tail Air has some unique capabilities, including the option to buy a remote for control, the image quality just doesn't meet my expectations, especially when compared to competitors like the Razer Kazer Pro Ultra.
👀 Secondly, I address the lack of a privacy mode. The absence of this feature means the camera is always potentially 'on,' which can be concerning. I appreciate devices like the Insta360 or the Pocket 3 lineup, where the camera retracts or shuts off when not in use, ensuring privacy.
🔌 The third point I touch on is the port placement on the device. The ports are scattered in a way that complicates cable management, which is a small but significant detail for a streamlined setup.
🎥 Lastly, I share my thoughts on the standalone recording capabilities. I wish the Obsbot Tail Air offered a log mode for recording, allowing for more post-production flexibility in color grading and detail capture.
💭 Despite these drawbacks, there are features of the Obsbot Tail Air that I genuinely like, such as the innovative remote control. It’s a cool aspect that adds convenience to the device's use.
🔄 Looking forward, I express my hope for an improved 'pro' version of the device in the future. I believe there's potential for Obsbot to address these issues and come out with a more compelling product.

  • I'm going to be honest my image quality looks alot better. I personally wouldn't use it as my main cam but as a backup or use it ndi poe up to 300 ft away it's pretty cool. For what it is and what's expected of it the image fits. The white balance and colors are really good but like I said I can use my sony zve10 or my full frame for main cam. They sent it to me but overall I liked it. But the 500 price and all the add-ons can be pricey.

    • To be fair I noticed the quality looks a little bit better when it’s zoomed in on an person/object. Unfortunately the wide shots are still a bit disappointing for a $500+ price point. I am missing the remote capability though.
