This video has generated some controversy due to the use of Epoxy on a cutting board. Despite using only a small amount for the joints and using food grade epoxy. Please comment on what you think about it. I would like to know your opinion for future projects.
People love to have concerns like this. It makes them feel like they know something. "Food grade" finish is a marketing ploy. Once any finish is cured, it's perfectly safe. How about plastic plates? Are they safe? Plastic cutting boards? How about the plastic film that your food comes wrapped in? Is that safe? What is the mass produced wooden cutting board that you buy at the store finished with? Does anyone know? Lacquer would be my guess. What is your fry pan coated with? Or your baking pans? People are going to question the finish on the wooden cutting board that their salad was prepped on, and then pour mass produced salad dressing on it from a plastic bottle without a second thought.
@@sheslop888Couldn't have said it better myself
I don't know that I would use it as a true cutting board but. as someone who entertains regularly, I would use it all the time for charcuterie. I love it when art meets function! Thank you for sharing with all of us.
Thanks for watching!
Just an idea for you. Use (or sell in bags) the Plum wood saw dust (and offcuts) for smoking meat. Kamado Joe or Weber cooks.
Not a bad idea...
This cutting board is absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you very much!
I remember the table :) This cutting board is even more beautiful, if that is possible at all. It looks like a bouquet of roses.
I'm glad you like it too
A lot of work. Regular folk don't understand what it takes to actually makes something fabulous. Great job
I'm glad you like it
This is very intriguing. The epoxy is used to seal and bond instead of producing a liquid glass style coating.
Yes...
Outstanding work.
Thanks!
Don't worry about the nay sayers, you can't please every one. There will always be those who find fault with anything they see or hear about. Your work is beautiful and it is so interesting to watch you work. You have a talent that needs to be seen by all the good people who love craftsmanship, and you certanily have it my friend. Thank you for the wonderful tables and cutting boards you make.
Thanks for your nice words.
My immediate thought seeing the final color and pattern was "It's a gi-raffe!" - ala the dogs in "A Hare Grows in Manhattan." Doesn't make it less beautiful, but wow that's uncanny.
😂

God has given you such a gift. You know it . Mesmerizing !!
Thank you very much
THAT is next level cutting board. I frequently make cutting boards from left over shop scraps too...but most if not all of my customers would say that's too pretty to actually use. It's a beautiful piece, well done.
Thank you! They've already told me twice that they wouldn't buy it because they wouldn't dare to use it... 😅
As usual your work is STUNNING! I love the eye that you have for the designs and also the fact that you're sooooo meticulous with it! Just a pleasure to the eyes from start to finish
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
guter film👍💯Bravo👋👋
Dankeschön!
Beautiful work. I can't wait to finish my current projects and try to make a cutting board from a Cedar log I have.
It would be nice!
Slices of various woods to make a F I S H, Then make it concave inside, convex outside. The result? A sink, or if you want something smaller, a large bowl. All with epoxy added.
Not easy... 😅
Very elegant board. Outstanding woodworking. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work with us 🙏🏼
Thanks for watching!
too nice to be a cutting board, it's a work of art 👍
Thank you very much!

@@marmotaworks magnánimo!
Most cooks would love to have a cutting board like this! Well made and beautiful!!!
Thank you so much!
Too nice to use as a cutting board. Better as a cheese platter, won't be damaged. Beautiful work.
Thank you!
Have you ever considered using a plant-based oil instead of mineral oil. When I was laying oak floors, five quarter inch, we would soak it with olive oil prior to urethane. It worked really well to moisturize the wood and bring out a lot of color. Just a thought.
Vegetable oil becomes rancid over time and doesn't smell good.
Liked your juice channel
Thanks!
Magnificent, I love the grain of the wood and luxe finish ❤
I'm glad you like it
Absolutely stunning. A master craftsman at work👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
it came out stunning!! ❤

A very lovely cutting board I like the slabs of wood design, have you ever thought about the wood chips being made into a cutting board? Probably a crazy or stupid idea Thanks for sharing
Thanks! It could be an idea...
1:13 i appreciate that. cool idea
The small details are important!
a real pleasure to watch you work without talking! how long did you let dry the wood (plum) before processing it? nice job!
Almost 2 years
Beautiful!!!
Thank you very much!
Amazing work! I want one of this!! ❤❤
I'll put it on my website! 😉
Wow! Such talent! Incredibly beautiful board! :)
Thank you very much!
Super nice, as well as your workmanship and videography I thought the colouring was quite good too. 😉🤣👍🏻 Danke dir
Thanks!
Love the work you do.
I'm glad you like it
Outstanding as usual. I have butcherblock countertops in my kitchen. I have found a product that is better than pure mineral oil, it's called Boos block oil. Butcherblock countertops are one of those things that you always wanted but regret getting because of the maintenance and staining problems. The Boos oil lasts longer and is easier to get off your hands. Thanks for the videos. 😎
Thank you for the advice! I had never heard of it before, I will look it up.
Really beautiful work and technique! Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub!
it's gorgeous, but what about leaving the natural rounded edges and having a less severe shape? at 4:21 it was perfect. I think it has so much character to leave the rounded edges.
Almost imposible to make a form like that
Is it wrong I’m making grabby hands while sending the video to family with- “Look! Birthday/Christmas idea for me!”? I’m making this simple for them, I sent them your website. 😂 Cutting boards are a family staple we hand down, especially high quality ones. I’d love to see you create an art piece that could also function to hold artwork, like comic pages, signed artwork, etc. Like a shadow box, but better. Seeing this project made me realise the possibilities. ❤
I hope your birthday is soon 😂... I'm receiving a lot of messages to buy this cutting board, and today I will put it up for sale on my website.
I didnt really like the video, but I subbed anyway because I felt so welcome to... Nah, I kid, youve got a lot of excellent work, I cant wait for your channel to really blow up, keep up the good work!

What a great project! I love the colouring of the wood, it's so beautiful.

Very cool. I have a very similar idea in my project sketch book... totally thought it was unique :)
Surely someone has done it before me as well
What great job you’ve made of that cutting board. I’m gonna make one now. Ps was denatured alcohol that you used with the butter you made. Regards
Thanks. It's mineral oil mixed with bee wax

Thank you. I actually feel like trying myself, though. But I'll have a look anyway. You never know.
You're right thinking that someone might come up with a "better way of doing this", but why would they? This project was not only extremely creative, and I'm sure there must have been a tremendous amount of satisfaction doing it this way.
You are right! I've enjoyed it
Beautiful ❤
😀
Brilliant job, looks amazing, I might have a go but on a smaller scale to try it out.well done.😊 by the way, what was the background music, it made for relaxing sounds to accompany your excellent work. Best wishes from Bonnie Scotland. 😊
Thanks. I'll put a list with the music on the description
Satisfactory...i bet its gratification to make..it is to watch 👍... lovely board
Of course it's
What a beauty! And was pleased you used black resin… the contrast was wonderful. But “juice grooves…” I understand most board builders like yourself do them, but I would never carve a roast beef on a wonderful board like this, which is the only time the grooves might be useful. And it cuts out almost 2 inches of both length and width of usable surface area!
Thanks! Maybe you are right, but it looks cool with groove
My family rarely if ever does roast beef or other large cuts that have juice run-off...that said, I was thinking how useful those juice grooves would be as we cut up a whole watermelon at least once a week in the summer.
@@johngrace199 Even watermelon doesn’t generate enough juice that it overruns my cutting board. If I HAVE to use a board with juice grooves, then I’d only want them on 3 sides. I use my board next to my sink and always slide the peelings/scraps/whatever directly into the sink from the board. A groove on that edge would trap the scraps instead of letting me cleanly sweep them into the sink. And even on those other 3 sides, I’d want only a subtle hint of a groove. But hey, that’s just me.
@@MaxPaws Hmmmm, we must be eating different watermelons.
Parabéns marmota! Como sempre, tudo com muita perfeição! Um grande abraço! 😉

I want this cutting board ❤❤❤

Is it possible to slice the wood so thin that it would not break? Maybe diagonally? Like a veneer. Then to place it either inside a concave mould or on the outside. To Achieve a shape made entirely of slices, held together by layers of epoxy. The form could be rotated over a curved base, allowing for the epoxy to settle in a layer and when ready, rotate the form again. The outcome would be a shape of wood slices suspended in a curved epoxy, but not lathed. Angles are good.
I don't see myself capable, but if you dare to do something like that, I'll encourage you!
Love it 😍
I'm glad you like it
Lovely work you are gifted hope you are blessed also 🙏👍
Thanks!
Superior craftsmanship. How much would this piece cost. I would love to have one.❤🎉
Thank you! You can take a look at my website marmotaworks.com/
Could you turn the link of the clamps used at the beginning to keep the trunk still? Thank you
I don't have a link, but they are regular clamps, you can find them at any hardware store or Amazon
What does the cutting board butter do for the wood? Beautiful job.
Protect it from moisture
Such a beautiful design. 😄😄
Thank you very much!
Is it possible to flatten it with a planer instead of the router jig you have? I have a planer I haven't used yet and wouldn't want to try it if it won't work right. Thanks. Beautiful piece.
Hi. It's not a good idea flatten endgrain with a planer
nice cutting board, you can mail it to my house now, lol, kidding great job bro
If you give me your address and a bunch of bucks... 😉
Maravilloso trabajo. Que madera es??
Madera de ciruelo
Beautiful! That should be hanging on a wall.
Thanks!
You can sharpen chainsaw chains on the saw very quickly with just a hand file. Few quick strokes per tooth, and good to go !
I do it with the good ones.
Got to try one!!! Great video! Where can I get the rubber feet?
On Amazon
@@marmotaworks thanks!!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Only think I would change is using a thinner bandsaw blade for easier precision cuts. Looks great though!
Yes, it would be easier...
👍👍
,😄
7:00 - Good observation using food-safe epoxy-resin !/?
of course!
After you use the chainsaw to cut the slices, don't throw away those chips. Next time you grill, throw a handful on the fire to add good fruitwood smoke flavor to your meat.
Good idea. I'll try it
Isn't the epoxy toxic for the food that's being sliced on it?
It's food grade epoxy
Yes.
😁
Классно получилось!
