This was the first video game console I played. So many memories.
This is one of the earliest plug & plays.
Certainly, and the one I thought had some problems that I'm sure weren't all Jakks Pacific's fault given what they had to work with.
Bosconian on here has the most drastic changes made compared to the other four games included: ● The sounds in the plug and play version are nothing like the arcade version. ● In the arcade version allows the players to move and shoot in eight directions while the plug and play version only allows the player to move in four directions. ● The arcade version features a synthesized voice that notifies the player of status changes such as incoming attacks and conditions (a system that detects the level of danger the player is in) while the plug and play does not have the voice. ● Speaking of the condition system, the arcade version utilizes the aformentioned system in three different colors (GREEN: Safe area, YELLOW: Enemies in vicinity, RED: Incoming enemy attacks from all bases) while the plug and play version doesn't seem to have a condition system at all. ● Lastly, the arcade version has the background move separately from the bases and debris (providing a more 3-D layout) while the plug and play version has none of that.
Yeah, I agree. I picked this up for ~$5 in a goodwill boutique here in Orlando and I'm neither impressed nor disappointed with it. The games do look well emulated but not perfect. It seems they emulated the difficulty (or the quarter munching aspect) of the games pretty well too. I do love the joystick in it though.
I've got one of these too. I think it was the first time I had ever heard of Bosconian. Mine also suffers from occasional graphical glitches, but mine has also seen a bit of wear.
My guess is it's an emulation deal.
It has low batteries. Replace the Batteries to fix the graphics problems

This is my first Plug and Play game ever. It’s been very well used throughout many years of me playing it.

For Gameplay, Screen layout, and suprisingly Sound, this unit is the definitve way to play both Rally X and Bosconian in my opinion. They almost look widescreen, 16:9. Plus being able to have a map transparent on the main screen actually makes it better. For Bosonian suprisingly it's actually more tolerable since the lack of narator makes it easier to stay focus. I heard there's a bit of debate for Pac-Man. I hear some people actually prefer the soundeffects on the Plug n Play version instead of the original soundeffects. The only deal breaker for me though is the lack of being able to adjust game settings like on actual arcade boards. You know adjusting Starting Lives, and the Score 1up Systems. That and no Pac-Man speed up hack.
I have one of these at my cousins house in St. Cloud, really enjoy it.
I rarely comment on KZhead videos. But I'll vouch for cheap $5 plug n plays. Whether they suck or not I'll collect them for sake of value at that price. Great review btw.

For a first in the series of Namco Plug 'n Plays released by Jakks Pacific, it suffers from not very being very good translations of these arcade classics in many ways. The sound isn't right, the colors aren't quite there, or odd formatting such as in Rally X. I think from Ms. Pac-Man Plug 'n Play on, they (or HotGen Ltd.) gotten a lot better in porting the titles over. To the point where a redone version of Bosconian now let you move in all directions and had the voice samples.
My great grandma had this at her house and I would play it all the time as a kid, then she fucking died, and I rediscovered it in a box

I used to have one but one day it started to do of where you have to wait a few minutes after you turn it on before it shows the menu and I was fed up with it for doing that so I therew it away I wish I could find another one
I loved that game in 2004 the joy stick got jammed after a while I still have it but I just can't play it anymore 😔💔

I had one. It was ok, I enjoyed my plug n play Wheel of Fortune game more so. I would later sell that one too, & now play WofF on the PS2. The bad thing about those plug n play games, you've gotta replace the batteries once they get low. Nothing like that on the playstation.

The only thing I can recommend is trying fresh batteries and trying it on another TV.
I actually really like this unit, but it's not my favorite. Not the best selection of games, the sounds are off, and maybe some of the colors are off, but everything else is pretty good. (BTW, I think you pronounced Bosconian incorrectly, it's actually pronounced "Boss-cone-ian".)

Are you sure? This looks to colorful to be an NES on a chip.
