"You can equip two of them for never ending combos" except when you play as 9S
do you automatically play as 9s in the second walkthrough and a2 in the third?

I’ll admit, I called it Type “forty” until I saw an actual Zero and realized they were not the same
What's the big deal?
@@pantherowow77 It's Type 4O(four-Oh) not Type 40(forty or four-zero)
MySpaceBarBroke Never mind, i fixed it why did i read that in two accents lol
A few notes here and there in case you’re confused: 1.Most weapons are found in the world instead of being sold in the weapon shop 2.Different characters have different fight styles. 2B can do advanced combos when holding light attack and can equip 2 weapons at once; A2 can also use 2 weapons at once but is unable to do advance combos. It is instead replaced by Taunt, and the self-destruct mode from 2B is also been replaced by the berserker mode, enabling high damage output but gradually chips away your health; 9S can only equip 1 weapon each time, and the heavy attack is replaced by hacking ability. 3.Weapon abilities are unlocked upon upgrades. To get the full 2 effect you must upgrade it to level 4 4.Normal Weapon trader can only upgrade weapons to level 3. To upgrade the weapons to level 4, you must find the machine blacksmith Masamune. He’s located under the Royal Chamber access point in the forest kingdom, behind a movable box.
2B and 9S can also use Taunt though. Flash your Pod light repeatedly in front of enemies.
9S has heavy attack, it can be used if you spam attack button with slight delays
A2 can also do the advanced combo thing, you just need to hold down the button but not long enough to start taunting. 9S also has heavy attack; don't spam the button and pause for a bit after the first move, then press the button and his heavy attack combo starts.
Marco Ling I’ve playing on pc and didn’t know that, definitely trying it out though
Thanks for stating all the obvious... 👏🙄
Yeah I just used the weapons that I thought looked the coolest.
Engine Blade in that case is top tier🤡
That's really the best way. It's all about enjoyment. Also, sometimes a game is more fun (and certainly more challenging) with literally _weaker_ weapons. Have you ever tried fighting Adam or Eve or another boss with bare fists? It takes a long time but it's a fun thing to achieve.
Facts, I switch them out every couple of missions.
Best weapon: Hacking
Finally someone gets it
best weapon: philosophy degree
Oh so true. It pretty much breaks the game from B path on. Completely and ridiculously overpowered in my opinion. And it is not even something you have to equip. Although you can get boosters for it that are not that necessary though if you ask me. A2 should have thought about using it a bit more often than just in the ending of C D path...

No. Berserk mode prevents you from always being at 100% health. Don't put virtuous weapons on A2, if you use Berserker mode, and you should use it.
When I was playing as a2, I mixed kill heal chips with the angel fists (it's been a while, I forgot the name) and could infinitely berzerk, that was pretty fun

I’m about 13 hours into this game and I’m starting to dive into the weapon upgrades and chips. It’s a lot of fun to try different combinations.. loving this game so far I wish I would have played this game years ago
Light attack: fang of the twins Heavy attack: spear of the usurper I like this combo for the extra damage and the bullet-hell clearing ability, especially for the colosseum
dunoo I just upgraded first two swords you get playing as 2B and went with that
Yeah I didn't switch out my weapons that much. I used the machine spear for most of the game and the starter sword for the whole game.
Yeah the weapons you use in this game and chips and whatever don't matter
The two starter blades maxed out are the best, because when at max health you get a damage boost from BOTH weps. So for pure damage these are the best, all you need is some healing chips and you will be max life all the time. Spears are best for 9s. The lance throw is just KING. And thus, the white lance is best.

This is one of the highest quality videos I have see from a very small channel keep at and you'll blow up
When I beat the game I was using a spear+gauntlet combo. A combo I only dreamt of having in games I've played previously. I seriously enjoyed the fast combo of the gauntlet and flashy moves when using the spear all the while having maximum shockwave attacks

@@mrsenpaihd7485 Crazy that it's ancient history now. The rate I'm going we should hit 10,000 by the end of the year.
Oh... I just used Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Dignity throughout the game lol... I have my chip setup for heals and melee damage/crits, and I've been doing fine. Never ran into an issue in the game where I thought my weapon wasn't good enough because they're very well balanced. I chose those 2 weapons because I loved the attack speed and slightly higher damage output of the spear in general. Basically having a "sword, sword, spear" combo over and over again, by putting the spear on the off-hand. I used the Virtuous Treaty as well for an off-hand wep, but it seems too slow for me. The damage is nice and all, but I fell in love w/ attack speed in this game and just went on like that.
When I played through it, I usually used the combo of Phoenix Daggers and Spear of the Usurper. The daggers kept my health up, and the Spear did heavy damage and turned enemies over to my side. Worked quite well.
i don't know how i ended my first play through back then but at the moment I am using: bare fists and the type 3 sword. But i love iron will and the iron pipe. I like the dragoneer lance bc of Drakengard
I actually impressed with the quality good job
Sweet lord this is from 2019. I’ve been searching for a video like this for some time now, definitely subscribing. Keep it up!
Haha I thought I'd become the hero we didn't deserve. Thanks for the sub.
Weapon choice also depends on character choice and chip setup, and aside from stats and abilities, determines your specific move set, which is a further layer of nuance. I especially hate the combo attack for Bracers paired with Large Swords, because it's got a significant wind up and is the only combo that has a (surprisingly high) chance of not executing properly, while I'm pretty sure the Spear counter is one of the best counters in the game since it knocks everything Medium or smaller in a 360 degree radius away from you and grants a ton of I-frames. For an example of a character specific factor in weapon choice, B Mode makes the Virtuous weapons' passive useless because you'll never be at full health with it active, so A2 is better off with a different weapon setup. On the other hand, crit weapons have stupid levels of synergy with B Mode, since you're stacking damage multipliers at that point. If you like exotic chip setups, or are already fighting on Very Hard (Or S-Rank Gambler's Colosseum) anyway, you can combine a pair of Cruel weapons with a high-tier Last Stand chip on 2B to gain a virtually permanent damage buff that puts her on equal footing with A2's B Mode before even factoring in Weapon Attack + and/or Shockwave. Self Destruct sets your HP to 1, activating all the relevant boosts, but you'll probably need to adjust to the muffled sounds and lack of color vision. Thanks to his specific moveset with Spears, 9S actually has stupidly high damage output with them because his charged light attack will throw the spear far, fast, and hard, and it will even pierce multiple enemies. The Type 40 Spear in particular is well-regarded as far as 9S is concerned because of how much its abilities increase the damage and stun values, but the Spear of the Usurper is also great if you'd rather rely on crits.
A few I think should be higher: Ancient Overlord- bullet rupture is amazing especially for legendary. It also has very high average damage (570-703) and when paired with the crit, is very good. Cypress Stick- okay, with a level 8 crit chip, you’re hitting a critical every other attack. Don’t let the low damage fool you, if you invest into criticals, and pair it with the iron pipe, you won’t even need deadly heal chips, as they’re just superfluous with a leveled offensive heal. That pairing is insane. It’s what got me through the special rank of the flooded city arena.

Sweet. Don't let anyone spoil the true ending for you!
I always love the original Virtuous setups it fits 2b so well
I prefer the virtuous contract and virtuous spear, forgot its name
as it should be. powerful weapons specially youre at full health
So it appears sticking to orignal 2B weapons was a good idea. They look good, feel correct lore-wise to use, and it appears they are pretty strong too.
Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Treaty Type 40 Sword and Type 40 Blade Both work out great for me! Except when playing as 9S...
Another great setup for the impossible DLC Arena is Demon’s Cry and Fang of the Twins. The attacks are WICKED FAST when A2 is in B mode and Fang of The Twins detonates ALL the bullets in the arena for you
Nice video. Apparently I played with a lot of low tier, except the Virtuous pairing. I kept coming back to that one.
When i played over a year ago, i used main hand angel fists and offhand type 4O fists, i stacked kill heal chips and was essentially unlikable, while pulling of insanely varied combos, it was like an advanced version of street fighter with even more combos, but open world. I'm thinking of doing a new set up for fun and to experience the emotions the game gave me when I played it :)
It doesnt take 10 minutes to say virtuous contract
This dude: With another *small* sword like virtous *treaty* Yeah, small sword
Emil's heads is the best weapon in the game and you can't convince me otherwise.
I actually used Spear of the Usurper and Iron Pipe when I played; but I chose them because they were the coolest for me, when including the lore behind them.
This takes me back I don't remember exactly the build but I remember using a throwing spear crit build that could one shot anything. Literally
Bro, you've got no need to push for subs. Your videos are of the kind of quality that you don't even need to.
Coming from the one and only Radiant Beach Shulk that has to be true! Haha thanks for the support!
@@locloudanerpg You're welcome! Just finished your XC2 Blade tier list and I'm looking forward to part 2. (P.S. I'm god tier literally)
2B: 9S, what's that? 9S: Oh, that's a mouse 2B:... 9S:... 9S: These things are weird, 2B, let's kill it. 2B: Good idea.
I got ending A B C D and a lot of the "minor" ones, just using the initial weapon. To be honest it's just a matter of leveling up your character, then you can literally win every fight even without using a weapon...
i mean in the vid he literally places the starting weapons in high tier and god tier. did you watch it or nah?
The Dragoon Lance may be in the low tier here but its been helping me one shot most enemies I come across when at a high enough level. The best thing about it is it's charged attack becomes ranged so you can stay out of enemies attack range and basically snipe them. Hella powerful too
Thank you, I love Nier automata videos!
You're welcome! More content is on its way!
I used Type-4O Spear with 9S almost all the time and it gave good results. Charge attack hits from long distance and often OS mobs. It was a nice addition to his hacking ability allowing to stay away from the fight and play 9S as a ranged character, which imo is why he is designed for. I'll definitely try the Spear of the Usurper, seems pretty strong.
Why is this guy not at 1k subscribers yet? This helped me so much when playing Nier
Success is in the monotony my friend. Thanks for your support!
You put the Type-3 Fists in both Low and Mid tier. Also might as well add Bare Fists too lol
A combo that's been working for me has been a heavy sword as my light attack (Virtuous Treaty) with a lance as my heavy (Dignity), because the H Sword > Lance combo is just hella cool. And I need the attack speed buff, because they can be pretty slow.
Subbed!!! Great content, appreciate it.
Thank you!
I love the references in the weapons names.
2B/A2 - Demon's Cry / Type-4O Fists as primary/secondary combo is rather fun if you want a fast-paced beat-em-up style. It ended up being my favorite weapon set by the end just for how fun the combos were. 9S - Spear of the Usurper or the Type-4O Lance because having a charge-up attack that railguns the enemy with a spear is fun. Combined with a Tier 3 Overclock chip and every perfect dodge is an excuse to lineup the enemies and go spear bowling.
Damn, now I wanna replay this gem.
My shock damage is at 2k, and my direct hit damage with weapons are nearly the same. And i use 2 gauntlets, and i use a specific combo for specific quick moment scenarios e.g. high crowd or high health crowd or high single target with them. The speed is incredibly fast with 2b with the specific endless combos i made with them so i absolutely reck havoc. I'd say i can do 30k damage within 7-10 seconds without interruption, and I'm often unlikely to be interrupted because i use a large series of shockwaves to wipe out all my enemies before they reach me. I don't know what I've done with A2 but i probably used the virtuous sword thing.
I feel like this is the only solid video on this subject thank you
I have been playing with virtuos contract and beastlord, because virtuos contract is the fastest and beastlord is the strongest most consistent heavy weapon. But I got over to virtuos contract and rusty pipe and spammed the (hold) light attack.
Im using the phoenix lance and the light first weapon. I can close distances extremly easly and i dont need wait to attack. I mostly start at a big distance with 2 lance attacks to shorten the distance and deal dmg with the shockwave and than use the full combo of the other weapon, which charges a big distance and deals a lot of dmg
The Phoenix spear being this low on the list feels really like weird after having played replicant with it, and it was an absolute monster of a weapon
Honestly I use the signature weapons of each character. (Currently on 2nd playthrough) I use 2B's main and 9S's Cruel set (the small one and the long one you find along the way) Not for the damage, but for the consistency in the story. (Mostly for the emotional part for me 😂)
Pretty sure Cypress is pronounced "Sigh-press"
I was pleasantly surprised to find my favorite weapon set up was among the best being Spear of the Usurper and Iron Pipe. The second ability of Usurper and the stackable Crit+ was just WAY too good to pass up. it's REALLY a shame that all of the combos and cool weapon set ups don't really matter too much due to the game being kinda not hard, and you can just out level stuff pretty quick. I really wish instead of a One Shot diff we instead got one that had level scaling. This game has a lot of complexities but there isn't a system that actually rewards you and encourages you to seek out those complexities.
Set A: Iron Pipe + Virtuous Contract/ Engine Blade/ Cypruss Stick (depends on what you prioritize: speed or crit) Set B: Demon's Cry + Angel's Folly (Damage + Heal) I only use spears on 9S since his charge Sq. is the best for that my set usually covers the chipset i equip (A - Farming, B - Boss Killing, C - Hacking)
Seeing 2B in Kaine's oufit makes me wish you could get Emil's (either human or weapon form's) clothes for 9S. Probably just me tho.
We all know the best weapon is 2 great swords and spamming attack dodged until everything dies
Great sword for smaller and stagger enemies, sword and spear for big enemies that can't be pushed around and keep spamming attacks

I just loved the engine blade for the reference.

uh... holy shit. I didn't know almost any of these weapons even existed
So I accidentally saved over my original 2b playthrough can I never get that back or does it all just continue, like ik I keep my level but does it transfer weapons and are you forced to play what story your on or can you pick later on?
Finished the entire game using the original setup. The only time I had to switch weapons was for the special rank boss in the flooded city arena. Taunt +8, critical +8, attack +8, and continuous combo chips plus the iron pipe and ancient overlord. all used while in A2's berserker mode helped me take down that tank in seconds.
I don't know if this has been commented on but Virtuous Contract/Dignity (then cruel oath) are the main speedrun weapons due to a movement tech called speardashing and a glitch called damage glitch which only works with small swords on heavy.
Great video. I started playing today, so I still have some time picturing which weapon is which because I'm not familiar with them. Could be good to add pictures of the weapons as you mention them.
Have fun man and don't worry, you don't really need to concern yourself with any tier list. Most people finish the first playthrough without maxing any weapon, I just sticked to Virtuous Contract/ treaty combo and ancient overlord / fang of the twins. You have the Virtuous weapons from the start and the other 2 are bought from the camp shop iirc. And from the 2nd playthrough and on, you can user whatever looks best. Good plug in chips are more important than your weapons imo
Virtuous contract and ancient overlord got me through the entire game with no issues at all. Really liked that combo.
Love the video but I would like to know some of the chip setups used in the video or perhaps a follow up video regarding builds.
I'm looking into it right now. A tier list is going to be hard but I think I can pull it off. My advice would be to focus on Shockwave, Crit Up and Offensive Heal. You literally will be untouchable.
Use two small swords or the three set ups I had in the vid.
set 1 - engine blade/cypruss stick + iron pipe set 2 - demons cry + angels folly chip set is pure offensive like shockwave 7 weapon boost 7 offensive heal 6 deadly heal 6 auto heal 6 unless i use my farming speed set
KZhead recommends this video to me an hour after I sacrifice my save data to help someone with the final battle.
Yaaas, type 3 blade finally being represented!!!
I always loved using spears on 9s for the charged throw inbetween hacks :D
I recently started playing and when I got faith I paired with Virtuous contract and fell in love the speed is amazing and the damage on a2 is amazing
You didnt talk about the Type-40 Spear, I really like it. I just adore the spear/ultra combo, its a bit slow but punishes creates some good spare
Virtuous Contract + Cruel Oath + deadly/aggressive heal works really well in arenas if you just want to go in. Contract for damage, Oath as a safety net and need kills to deadly heal. They’re decent vs groups but they utterly shred bosses like a chainsaw through butter because the speed + stacks, and you just spam the same combo. The other combo is demons cry + Virtuous treaty, if you want to play it safe, whittle them down from range with the big sword then pop them with the bracers. Heavy swords push enemies back, which has its uses.
I dabbled with the weapons I found but basically played all four stories maining Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Treaty. As you say, they are so good out of the box. And running chips to recover health on kills keeps the buff running.
is demon’s cry primary spear of the usurper secondary a good idea?
Levels and chips mean way more than the minute differences that the weapons alone bring to a fight. This also discounted quite a few things, like how all the virtuous weapons get the same buffs, and if you equip spears in the heavy or light slot they will do piercing or sweeping combos. This honestly falls apart the more you know about the game, sure there are definitely "better" weapons and "broken" combos, but that doesn't really matter in this game at all. The higher difficulty (which is a joke) only demands better dodging and chip setup at most. Not to mention the fact that you need to upgrade all these weapons over the course of almost the entire game in some cases, just to receive the small perks each have. Use whatever weapons you want in whatever combo you want, they don't matter aside from looks when you really break it down. If you are looking to tear things up use chips, they basically give you all the buffs you will ever need from any weapon.
as 9s if you have high taunt boosts on + maxed dragoon lance & beastlord you never have to hack. i went through his whole playthrough + the endings and sometimes beat bosses before the song's chorus even came on, at equal or below level
I wish you wouldve put the weapon icons and names on the screen, they all look similar on screen and you cant tell them apart that much
The Phoenix blade and the Beastblade are some that i used till nearly the end just to see if i could. Loved Automata man, almost as much as the the original Nier.
Iron pipe and Cypress Stick. Those were my go tos. :)
Wow. By the quality of the content, I was surprised to see that this channel was so small! Subbed!
I used the Virtuous set, even on A2 and 9S. On my second run of the game I used the engine blade and BeastBane ( I didn’t know it was such a low tower weapon)
Beastbane's not that bad actually. None of the Beast weapons are if you're playing on Normal or Hard, because they gives you boosted Def. Their Beast's Roar ability could be better, but it still adds more range to your attacks. They're less useful on Easy or Very Hard. Very Hard they're not useful because you die in one hit regardless of your Def, and on Easy... well everything you have hits like a truck while nothing hits you particularly hard, so weapon choice matters even less lol. Also they're not useful in the Flooded City's Special Rank DLC arena. I tested on Easy with maximum defense chips (2x HP and 80% damage absorption) on top of having TWO weapons with Endurance Up, and you still can get oneshotted by a lot of attacks. You're much better off going Ancient Overlord and Iron Pipe with maximum offense lol.
I didn't even know there were this many weapons o.o
Playing this again on switch and this game still hits hard especially the soundtrack. I'm not even bothered by the fact that there is actually no "Transport" system in the early game. I just wanna walk with 2B aimlessly.
idk, did i hear type-3 fist in the low tier and mid tier class? or is the other type-40?
You heard correctly
I just make 3 chip sets, 1 for Moving faster and exp, another for attack, and the final one for defense. In weapons I just use whatever I think is best looking, lije Noctis Sword (Engine Blade) and the Spear of the Usurper
That's all that matters really lol. Even on Very Hard, you can still tear stuff up with a defensive setup. It's only the Flooded City's Special Rank DLC arena where your weapon choice makes a monumental difference. Though while Engine Blade's kinda meh because its two abilities are more or less cosmetic, Spear of the Usurper is the best spear. But if you wanna go for what looks cool, pair Engine Blade with Phoenix Sword. It looks really cool when you switch on and off of the weapon set, especially if you give both to 9S and switch back-and-forth repeatedly x)
I keep 2 chip sets. My main set that has max moment speed, weapon attack, shockwave, offensive heal, drop rate, auto collect (had to sacrifice some system chips to fit all that in) and the other for the Flooded City arena so a pure glass cannon Berserk mode build (taunt up, crit, weapon attack, shockwave, overcloak, offensive heal, etc)
Hey how do you change the damage you see when you attack enemies at 4:41
That's the cypress sticks special ability.
Thanks for share 👍
I'm playing through route B right now, and found Demon's Cry by accident. After some upgrades and chips, my 9S is insane now.
I put down Adam and Eve with bare fists because they were absolute pushovers but the 2 best overall weapons are probably Iron Pipe for the wild crit rate and stun rate, and Type-4O Lance because with energy charge it can deal large sword damage with small sword speed. That, and the fact that the Type-4O Lance is a lance in a Square Enix game which means you can do the iconic Jump attack.
Trying to get all the weapons in the game makes me feel like a games journalist trying to beat a cuphead tutorial. Is there any way to get these with a keyboard and mouse?
