Threading the needle | Race wheels vs New York City

In this video, I'm on two missions.
1. Go get some audio equipment so I can make marginally better videos for y'all. You deserve to hear me stutter clearly!
2. Test out speed skating race wheels that are designed to be super fast, really grippy, and give speedskaters the edge that they need, no pun intended. These wheels are the Rollerblade Hydrogen Pro's, 90 mm XX Firm.

    • as a previous longboarder, these were considered more of a hazard than a protection. We can heal from scrapes but if our 'protection' makes it harder to land properly from a fall/ prevent a fall and as such we hit our head or fall ugly, then it goes besides the point. No hate on kiddies wearing these ❤ but it's usually why adult skaters wear no protection or just a helmet.

  • I think the important thing to note about this is how much it relies on the awareness of others, if you pay attention several people had to stop, or move to accommodate his movement, not everyone is gonna do this and some people will purposefully try to hurt you

    @PumpkinPotatoPie@PumpkinPotatoPie2 ай бұрын
    • I disagree completely. He clearly anticipates his own moves in order to avoid needing the attention of anyone else to see him. By the time he's in your orbit, he's just as fast out of your orbit and none of your concern. I can see startling a few people, but aren't New Yorkers supposed to be tough? But for the part he's moving too fast for anyone to really notice him until it's too late and he's already well past them and so "hurting him" isn't really an option.

I took off and thought I was going to go through the window. Problem was, I live out in the country, but there was a school nearby that had a small oval drive. But that wasn't long enough, so I went into town that has extensive bike paths. I'd end up "blading" 7 or 8 miles, one way, at a time. I just couldn't figure out when to turn around...truth. LOL Other things came up and I headed of to other things to do. I'm going to be 72 next August and miss rollerblading.

There's a dude at my college, total emo guy, who goes around in black bellbottom jeans, a black leather jacket, black hair and black eyeliner, with black blades that practically look like combat boots. He wears his blades as often as most people wear shoes, and you'll see him gliding around from class to class all the time. Really cool dude, and definitely stands out a lot more than the average skater bro with a thrasher t shit and a snapback. Even if no one collides with him, or he with anyone... clipping a single stationary obstacle at those speeds EASILY compound fractures the ankle, and potentially then some, and thats if you don't hit any other part of your body on unyielding structures on the way down. People just don't understand the risk, and how fragile their bodies are. • I've been to NYC once before, but just for a few days as a tourist. What's really fun is that a lifetime of seeing versions NYC in TV, movies, comic books, and video games has apparently given me at least some idea of certain landmarks. For example, I knew he was at least approaching the Hudson River Greenway (I didn't know what it was called before seeing this video) before we could actually see the water. Probably not impressive for most people, but I was pretty excited about it.

I also prefer skating on roads with a fair bit of traffic, don’t get me wrong I love going down empty roads but if I’m moving slower than cars behind me I just get on the pavement cuz I understand people have places to be and don’t want to be impeding on their time so for me the traffic here looks great. That being said I noticed some pretty tight lines in the video especially at high speed so what you said does kinda make sense. Always gotta be careful
