Edgar Wright on An American Werewolf In London Part 1
EDGAR WRIGHT ON AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON Part one. "BEWARE THE MOOON - REMEMBERING AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON was shot by asmall independent, self-funded crew of three first time filmmakers, lead by (and including) writer/director Paul Davis between March and November 2007.
The above interview was shot for the proposed 45min UK television version of the documentary in June 2008 at The Prince Charles Cinema. In September 08, for the forthcoming Blu-Ray and 2-disc special edition release of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, Universal Studios Home Entertainment acquired the rights to the 98min feature version (playing at Frightfest) which contains exclusively interviews with the original cast and crew only. Now, for the first time ever, the lost interview with Edgar Wright sees the light of day."
His experience with "American Werewolf" is really similar to a lot of 80s horror kids. It was like this magical film that you had to see.
I do not need a remake. But people who cry and bitch around about remakes and even reboots can just ignore the newer movies. But if there would ever be a remake of American Werewolf in London...... Then Edgar Wright should make it :-P
My favorite Director talking about one of THE best movies of all time, awesome!
Best film ever-no remake needed, fx look far better than lame cgi
His account of the first time he watched it is really similar to mine. When I was little my parents used to tell me about the movie as a bedtime story. And after a couple years I begged them to let me watch it, so they rented to movie when I was 9. Being so young, a lot of the black humor went over my head and I was haunted by the movie. I refused to watch it, even as over the years my love and interest in werewolves grew. When I was 17, I finally decided to watch it again, and it sparked a new round of deep obsession. I love An American Werewolf in London. It will always be my favorite werewolf movie.
I’m the same age as Edgar. My parents banned me from watching American Werewolf and I went behind their back, watched taped at my friend’s house and got a massive telling off. It was my first representation of London, growing up in Warwickshire. I agree that the Darts, News of the World and the test card is genius.
god he is such a dreamboat
Bit creepy
YES😫😩
I first saw An American Werewolf in London when I was 5 years old at the drive-in with my family. David Naughton was awesome in this moive and in Hot Dog The Movie!
Having been such a huge fan of AAWIL all my life over the years, it became mind-boggling to me why David Naughton did not became a bigger star. He was such a likeable presence in American Werewolf. But I only learned years later that the movie had not been a blockbuster success in the US, it was mainly a cult phenom. To me the film was so great and how all my friends loved and raved about the film back in the day I never realised that it didn't find an audience. I thought the whole World loved the movie. At least right now it is seen as a classic by many people.
I never knew that neither. I always assumed it was a big hit. I'm sure it must have done well here in the UK. My parent's used to tell me how great the film was when I was a little kid
@@simonpenum When I see that I realise that geek culture plays a lot on why movies are successful nowadays. People are directly connected to everything geek that exist and studios don't even have to bother doing promotions cause people will flock to it. It was more difficult for movies to reach people back in the day, esp movies that were a little offbeat like this(I know it's funny to view American Werewolf as "offbeat" now cause it has all the beats of a commercial movie with special effect, action, humour). I have not looked at the box office but I would bet The Howling probably was not a big success either. Yet it's another classic. I think most adults were not interested in stuff like that, there was more of a demarcation of what adults liked and kids liked. Now parents watch the MCU as much as kids. Although I don't know what that says about society. lol That being said, a lot of the greatest movies ever were not breakout successes and became word of mouth ones. Even Blade Runner. Citizen Kane. Casablanca. It's a Wonderful Life. At least American Werewolf is in great company. ;)
Good Brian Glover impression
Edgar wright should make a werewolf movie like An American werewolf in London but make it totally original.
6:36 That’s one of the most hilarious lines from the film and quote it sometimes. “That’s enough!!!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Brian Glover also in Alien 3 is quotable.
Ed Wright is a fantastic director, American Werewolf is a fantastic film, but I'm also not convinced that a re-make is required :/ With him on the whole being sent to bed idea when you were a kid, if you don't see the end, the monsters are still alive in your head!! :D
They already tried a remake, the one in Paris. And we all know what a GREAT success that was...
Rick Baker said he'd like to do another transformation scene that combined CGI and hand made special effects. On another note, this film scared me shitless the first time I saw it. That was several years ago and no film has terrified so me since. Shame. Desensitization sucks x
"Mummy, A naked american man stole my baloon."
his films were the last time films weren't PC loaded. American Werewolf, what a great film. That wolf was fantastic.
He should but it should be a parody of the movie and call it "A British Werewolf in America" and have it star Simon Peg!
Ill be the first to say that for someone 37 years of age Edgar Wright looks pretty good. Still almost looks like hes in his twenties!
All american werewolf in London the best on the best David naugton Wolf man rocks kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss
this movie doesnt need a remake good films dont need remakes i remember the first time seeing this movie when they are in the moors seeing him him geting killed realy freeked me out i was about 7 when i saw it
An American Werewolf in London was a good movie. it actually made me jump on a few parts when i first saw it and any movie that can make me jump i like.
Baby Driver is Wright's ripoff/homage to AWIN. You have the main character who is leading a double life, he hates what happens in the second life, but doesn't really have a choice. He falls in love with a girl, but the second life keeps pulling him away. Then he has a friend from his first life who keeps urging him to do the right thing and leave the second life, but the friend is powerless to stop him himself. In the end (complete with cops at the end of the alley/bridge and him and the girl at the other end), he sacrifices himself to keep the girl away from the second life. However, I feel that AWIN is superior in that the love story is much better. I never felt like the love story worked in Baby Driver as it does in AWIN. The nurse in AWIN feels bad for David and falls for him, and we feel bad for him too, and we like her for liking him. I never got the sense of tragic romance in Baby Driver as In AWIN.
"AWIL". and it's a REALLY forced comparison.
First time I watched the film was at a friends house after school and my mum came to get me before we could finish watching it and the last scene I saw was the nazi monster scene, it was years before I watched the full film.
Saw that at 13 age of puberty two months after saw Ginger Snaps which was more of a blurring experience due it being more violent and gorey. I was aware of John Landis cause of Thriller music video which the film was an inspiration for Michael Jackson.
I have to say that my favourite part is prime Jenny Agutter
yeah that scene with the 'stormtroopers' is serious...
I'm not sure that this film needs re-made
It was obviously an accident. He mentions later in part 2 that it's a dream, so please, take a deep breath, relax, and turn off your caps lock. And if it's gonna get remade by Edgar, just be glad that it's him doing it and not Rob Zombie.
@DarknessEnabled Without John Landis, this movie would also not have been written, or directed, therefore denying Rick Baker the job and an oscar. So it's kind of a co-dependent thing. The both have to be on their game if it's gonna be a classic. Pair up Rick Baker and a hack like Rob Zombie and a good movie is unlikely to be produced.
@GaryJesamine Landis had nothing to do with American Werewolf in Paris, which is a sequel, not a remake. He dislikes it as much as you do.
He doesn't even know the film... the "nazi falshback" is NOT a flashback its a dream! SO PLEASE ... DO NOT RE-MAKE my FAVORITE FILM!!!

@TheNightcrawler125 they already have ruined any werewolf movie with the twilight garbage, if they make another werewolf movie it will get hated on a lot. especially if they make the werewolves scary again like they should be. everybody will want them to be like they were in twilight and if they are not people will hate it. twilight is very popular even though it doesnt deserve to be.
they remake everything int shit. of course, it doesn't need to be remade.
@ISR110253 It should be left the fuck alone. Look what they did to Texas Chain Saw, Hills, Last House, Halloween, Elm Street. All fucking crap.
Oh, he is yummy.
Thanks fans for supporting me
REMAKE!! WHAT A FUCKING SHIT IDEA!!! The first one cannot be topped! FACT!!!
@visceralgristle DAMN IMAGINE ROB MADE IT? FUCKING WOLF MIGHT BE 8 FEET TALL! LOL ROB KILLS ALL THE MOVIES HE MAKES. MICHEAL GREW LIKE 3 FEET IN HIS MOVIE MAKING HAHAH
REMAKES....Grrrrrrrr.....lol If ya gonna remake something, be clear & honest about why your doin it....Is it your dream....something ya passionate about... Or just JUMPIN ON THE LATEST HOLLYWOOD CASH COW BANDWAGON.... I've got nothing against remakes, but there are too many of em...... If ya gonna remake a film...remake one that's rubbish... At least that way you'll stand half a chance of makin a good movie.....
AAWIL is the most terrifying, original class in the werewolf genre of Films. The Remake (An American Werewolf in Paris) is shit. I absoloutely hate it. The worst Film John Landis ever made.
Landis did not make American Werewolf in Paris. He actually had a take to do an American Werewolf 2 but they scratched it. And chose to go with other guys for Paris
