  • I am Romanian. Here shawarma is a common street food. It will usually be done with mayo, ketchup (yes, really), a lot of fries, chicken meat, pickles, tomatoes, onions, etc. People like it. There is nobody to scream "BuT iT iSn'T tRaDiTiOnAl!!!11!!!!1!".

    • @@yaous2081 Fries are served on the side, not in it, unless you don't have space for the fries so you throw them in on top which is why Arabic do that because they normally serve them off stalls. It's usually made with tabbouleh, fattoush, taboon bread, tomato, and cucumber Doners and gyros don't get fries in them either.

    • FR such an untapped market. I don’t see any reason why there aren’t more kebab/shawarma spots around already. When I was in Europe it was essential to get one after going out drunk at night. Absolutely wrecked my stomach but 100% worth it.

    • The only reason I can think of to Not come to the US is paperwork. Shelby American (a car company, started by Carroll Shelby, builder of Cobras) is Now owned by MegaGiant Ford. Not stepping on Ford's toes, when rebranding "Shelby's Shawarma" of Canada for an American audience is just gonna be a lot of paperwork. Paired with the fact that expanding the franchise into the US makes them an international company, subject to new licenses, registrations, fees, taxes, inspections, et cetera
