  • While I mostly agree, I think Electro is a better character than given credit. He's still not great by any measure, but I think when you pay attention to the way they deal with his character's mental illness, I think elements of his character are actually handled fairly well. Of course Harry should have been given greater care like you say. I would have loved for example the next movie to have been Spidey in the black suit, going full on revenge on Harry for what he did. Maybe have some fun with Black Cat along the way to help him get over Gwen.

    • Maybe Electro should be caused by Green Goblin when Green Goblin puts a tank of eels near Max Dillon then he falls down the next day he wakes up, he goes outside lights flickering minutes later he is stopped by Spider-Man then he wakes up fights Spider-Man then chases spider man to the power grid and gwen run up to the control and spider man put his web near the electricity also holds it then Electro strikes electricity at him , Gwen turns on the power grid making electro charge up and explode. The dark knight worked because Joker has made Harvey Dent into Two Face and it focused on villain

Or maybe its just that you need validation of how poor you believe the film to be that badly that hearing some else go on about for a long time makes you feel more justified for not liking the film? Or possibly its just the joy of an eternal of an ASM2 hate-fest that has you going. Either way... you know what? I could question KZhead posters on subjects like this for hours.

I cut a lot of dialogue that just rambles and smoothed out a lot of scenes. I even added in most of the deleted scenes, it really helped. Frankly the movie is alot better when you cut it down. • I like Amazing Spider-Man 2 for what it is, but I think this video brings up a very important topic: studios need to stop messing with their movies and let the directors do their job. It happened with this movie, and supposedly it happened with Justice League before Zack Snyder even left. It even happened with Suicide Squad, with the writers having only six weeks to write the film! People wonder why Sony and Warner are having troubles keeping up with the MCU, but I think it's clear that studio meddling is the main issue. Marvel Studios and Fox both have a history of letting their writers tell the stories they want to tell, because they learned their lesson with Iron Man 2 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine respectively. I hope that moving forward Sony and Warner Bros. pay attention to what went wrong with their earlier films and just let their filmmakers do their jobs.

  • I believe that the spider blood thing cannot be fixed because it was teased earlier on in TASM that Peter was, in a way, a product of his father's work. Albeit, through deleted scenes and trailer content. It was also implied in the non-canon TASM video game where Doc Connors notes that deformities and drastic personality changes were absent in Spider-Man. Removing that detail would also lead to a plot hole: Without a biological failsafe, Oscorp could have used the spider blood in secret and would also make Peter unlikely to be the first Spider-Man, since Oscorp had the spiders for more than a decade (Peter was 6 when Richard and Mary left). Genetic tampering could also be an explanation as to why Harry's condition is more severe than his father's. Perhaps Norman wanted his son to be rid of the disease (not just out of love, but also out of a sense of achievement) but unwittingly made it worse.

And as how OSCORP steal it the idea. Bitter and spiteful , MAax seeks to sue the company but the dome of oscorp seeks to "eliminate it" and the accident he suffered was an attempt to kill him to make it look like an accident. NOW transformed into electro, seek revenge against OSCORP (donald menken, smythe and harry osborn). In that way peter parker /Spiderman he would seek to protect the life of his best friend and during his battles against electro he would discover the sinister agenda of OSCORP. • In my opinion, spider man 2 is not only the best spider man movie, but the best superhero movie as well. All I have to say is, "I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride. Even though sometimes we have to be steady and give up the things want the most." Peter had everything. He was living the dream. But the world didn't need Peter Parker. The world needed spider man.

    • Obviously people look for different things in film so understandably some will say 2, some will say Homecoming. I personally love both, as 2 is a very mature, profound film, Homecoming is relatable for totally different reasons. I find Spider-man 2 really appeals to the adult in me, whereas Homecoming really appeals to my inner youth. Both these films do it with flying colours but I guess I give the edge to Spider-man 2 as I'd still say I prefer the larger-than-life directing style of Sam Raimi, the glorious score of Danny Elfman and the harder edge to the reality it takes place in. It's truly the deepest and most personal Spidey tale of Peter's greatest struggle, and while many have tried to top it, it still remains unparalleled.

      @ChannelPup@ChannelPup6 жыл бұрын
    • Channel Goat Same here. Looking back in the second film (and the trilogy as a whole), I was surprised at just how mature those movies were. Sure, they had the typical Raimi campiness but that was mostly in the first film which still had some nice moments. The second film handled its tone much better and even though the third movie had its tonal problems, when it was serious, it was really fucking good. The Sandman stuff was definitely the highlight of the movie. I wanted to see more of his character but of course the studio had to shove Venom in where he didn’t need to be. If Raimi was able to just focus on Sandman like he originally wanted to, I guarantee Spider-Man 3 would be the best Spider-Man movie ever.

  • I'm in the same boat as you about LOVING spider-man. It sparked my love for filmmaking, comics, games, art, and all that gud stuff. The character of Peter Parker and Spider-man means a lot to me and it was such a shame what TASM2 became, I have never felt more disappointed sitting there after it was over. There are some good moments and a decent movie hiding inside but the final product was a mess. I still think Spider-Man 2 is my favorite Spidey film, It just nails that everyman aspect of Peter, Toby just looks so defeated and you feel so bad for him everytime something goes wrong. You can see through his face that he is trying so hard to do the right thing despite having to make big personal sacrifices every step of the way, that's what makes Peter such a good guy. Homecoming is very close, I just wish we had more time to focus on Peter dealing with the repercussions of making those personal sacrifices, beating himself up that he almost killed all of his friends on an elevator due to his reckless behavior. Beating himself up that he almost got killed by the vulture their first encounter and also a little thing like Peter walking past the destroyed Bodega later in the film to really show how reckless he is being.

  • I don't think The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an awful movie by any means, but it definitely is disappointing. I still love Andrew Garfield's performance as Spider-Man and it's easily my favorite portrayal of the character. And The Amazing Spider-Man 1 is a far better film overall. It had heart and emotional, had a decent villain who made sense, and had great pacing. It also was less interested in just making a franchise. Two, like you hit on, was just focused on pushing a sequel. If I were to fix it I would definitely take out Electro, or at least change his origin and character traits. His reasoning for being evil just seemed weak and unrealistic. Plus if you give him a better purpose and story then he becomes more believable as a villain. I would also make slight changes to Harry Osborne's story. Overall, I love how he portrayed the character (bitter at his father for basically treating him horribly, becoming desperate to cure himself and letting it twist his reasoning, and his performance as the Goblin (though short) definitely wasn't bad) and Dane Dehaan (Don't think I spelled that right) is a great actor. But sometimes he seemed too edgy even from the get go. He was basically already evil from the beginning. I would definitely keep some parts though. The opening part with him stopping Rhino and the armored truck I would definitely keep. That scene is probably the best portrayal of Spider-Man I've ever seen. It shows the witty, funny, sarcastic Spider-Man, has amazing action, it shows him late for something important and missing something because of his duties as Spider-Man, which is a common theme in Spider-Man history. He misses out on the things in his normal life and is constantly getting sidetracked by Spider-Man's life. Plus Gwen's speech playing over the scene does great at giving some foreshadowing and gives an awesome feel playing over the scene. I would also keep the Peter/Gwen love angle with them being separated. It gives the movie some emotion. Peter feels guilty about breaking the promise to her father but also is miserable being away from her and misses her. And watching them reconnect and realize they still love one another is a great plot device and really good character development. It worked really well in the new Spider-Man game with MJ and I think it works here as well and gives more of a look into Peter's life. I would also keep the fight between Spidey and Green Goblin (except make it quite a bit longer). I liked the cinematography and action in that scene and the fact that Peter was constantly trying to save Gwen while also fend off Harry played out really well. Plus Gwen's death (like the opening fight with Rhino) is one of my all time favorite Spider-Man scenes. It has emotion, and shows some consequence and risk for the character. it was his fault that she died and it brings the promise made to her dad come full circle because exactly what Peter and Captain Stacy tried to avoid ended up happening. It also shows that heroes will have losses and risk. And the last scene I think would keep is the end scene where he faces the armored Rhino. I actually really liked this. It shows what I've seen this channel talk a lot about with Spider-Man. Bad things happen to him. His life gets torn apart, but he always comes back and keeps being Spider-Man. He keeps being good. I love this scene because it shows the effects of Gwen's death on him and shows him overcoming it and continuing on. It also shows, much like the train scene in Spider-Man 2, his connection to the people of New York. It shows him as a symbol. He makes his triumphant return and shows that he isn't about to let bad things in his life hold him down. He still remains optimistic. Plus it helps with foreshadowing future movies which is what Sony wanted. I think the movie could have been saved but sadly Sony got greedy and only wanted to push a franchise. Not make a good movie. A lot could be taken out of this movie and make it great. It sucks that Andrew Garfield and the rest of the cast of this movie are panned for their portrayals. The casting and acting were great. But sadly Sony screwed it up. The first movie was a step in the right direction, and 2 had all the right things to be great but then failed miserably with all the crap they unnecessarily threw in.

  • I'll never agree this movie is as remotely terrible as people think. I see an incredibly beautiful movie. It may be bloated, full of cliches, and yeah Electro is ridiculous... but the thematic components manage to make sense of the insanity of the plot. I do agree that more refined character motivations would have made the movie easier to follow, but just because half the characters in the central cast are "just crazy" doesn't take away in my opinion. In fact, Green Gobs and Dock Ock from the first two Raimi movies were a pair of "just crazies". The cynical corporate greed is apparent in this movie, but if you shift mental gears, there's a classic Spider-Man story with a lot of heart in there. You may commense laughing at the absurd notion if you like, as many have before you... or you can heed my words and take a second look. Personally I love this movie and can't quite fathom how people can feel so strongly negative about it. The blood thing is a bit of the midichlorian effect, explaining something that didn't need to be explained, but that's what happens when a nerd gets to make a movie about something he's interested in. Adding a specific, and mind you fictional, requirement for the elevated from the every man status doesn't actually change much... there's just a misinterpreted technical "how" thrown in the mix that most people just aren't interested in as much as people who like technical pseudoscientific story telling. Personally, I didn't see it as a destiny element at all; its more of a father's legacy element... which I think is a great payoff to the Bourne Dad set up in the beginning. Suffice to say this movie is misunderstood. In my humble opinion.

  • I think know how to fix Electro. Max’s dark side would have been better executed if he were depicted as the softspoken nerd who showed more subtle signs of wanting to fight back, like forming a fist or trying to utter a comeback but failing, as opposed to an imaginary assault. When he turns into Electro, he could still be drawn to Times Square purely because of hunger but is not fully transformed. He could just look like an ordinary bald dude whose skin is peeling to reveal a paler layer of skin. Then, as his condition gradually worsens (into what we see in the trailers), he begins to lose self-control and considers satisfying his dark urges. His physical change would mirror a psychological one and does not finish rapidly. Max becomes aware of this and tearfully tells the people at Ravencroft (when he is inevitably detained) that he is afraid of what he is becoming. Knowing that they are more interested in experimenting on him than curing him would make things worse. And, before he finally gives in to the anger and the rage, he wonders what he did to deserve any of this. He could also be more sympathetic if he were depicted as an actual ally to Spider-Man instead of being a deluded and obsessive fanboy. Max could take the initiative to form an actual friendship with him. He could give Spidey a few miniature power cells to test and Peter would eventually incorporate them into prototype spider tracers. He could become Spider-Man’s unofficial tech support and that would add more emotional weight to Max’s transformation because he actually is friends with Spider-Man. Spider-Man also has the choice to investigate what is going on in Ravencroft because he could feel responsible for Electro's incarceration and would show concern for his friend.

In fact, fights with Rhino (comics, cartoons, video games, etc.) involve serious property damage so it could be used as a reason why Electro managed to break out of Ravencroft. In my version, after he was arrested, Aleksei Sytsevich was hired to test pilot an illegal battle suit. He was expendable. If he died, people could just lie that he died in prison. If he lived, he could be an expendable soldier for Oscorp. Giving Spider-Man a hard time would then get him a spot in the Six.

Spider-Man 1 and Homecoming are also great, but Spider-Man 2 as a whole is amazing. - I can't. I don't live in the US, and I don't have an international credit card.

    • I don't agree at all. The whole time I watched the movie all I could think was "this isn't how Spiderman would handle this." Take Electro, Spiderman fights electro and during the fight realizes he's someone he's met before. He then just beats him up and leaves him to the cops, and then starts making electric proof web? Wtf no. Why work on the web when you left him with the cops? Is that implying he thinks electro will break out? If so why leave the scene without finding out where his powers come from? The Spiderman I know would have investigated what was going on and tried to reason with the guy to find out what happened. In the movie he didn't even act like he cared except for making the new web for no reason? In the comics we all ways hear Peter's thought process, but that section of the movie was a break down in logic and was so un-spiderman like. I couldn't for the life of me figure out his thought process which is a key factor to Spiderman as a character.

He tried to reason with him and take him somewhere safe to talk and because a stupid cop decide to be trigger happy, electro thought Spider-Man betrayed him. Spider-Man tried to continue reasoning with him but Electro just didn’t listen. So you saying Spider-Man didn’t care is false. And idk about you but I hardly see Spider-Man investigate the villains in any of the cartoons or movies and when he did in the cartoons it’s only because they have multiple episodes to spare unlike this one movie

  • I absolutely love The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for what it is. It's one of my favourite movie of all times, and particular scenes still make me cry to this day. Granted, excluding my first viewing in the theaters in 3D, I've only ever watched it while drunk and at least a bit down, but it's more about my connection with the movie rather than a blinded interpretation of it. The music, the characters and the actors portraying them, the relationship between Peter and Gwen, the absolutely mesmerizing web-swinging, the visuals (apart from the suit itself; it's not bad at all, but it's my second-least favourite, just ahead of the suit from Homecoming, and it could have been just a touch tighter for a little less flapping in the wind) all really resonate with me, and there's a special magic surrounding the movie that makes it quite an immersive experience every time I watch it. However, I also despise the movie for not being what it should have been, leading to the subsequent cancelling of the third movie and related spinoffs (I was excited for Venom until the only connection it had to this particular universe was being a Sony production - still an alright flick, though). I loved Electro but with so much content surrounding Harry either cut or not properly realized, this secondary character carries center-stage too much with no real support, and he came across more as a nuisance rather than a threat. I did enjoy the blood aspect for this universe as I was curious to see where the whole Oscorp angle was going, and I liked Electro as a distracting threat until the Goblin is birthed, but it was definitely not a great direction to go. I really enjoyed this video and was enthralled by Armored Penguin's ideas for the story's direction, although I don't understand the whole "teaming up" aspect. Focusing solely on getting the blood would make for great motivation throughout the movie, making the battle not about good versus evil, but about the right thing versus the helpful thing and would make for an amazing line for Peter to follow as he focuses on the paradox of both being Spider-Man and stopping the Goblin from getting his blood, yet being Harry's friend and doing his best to acquire it to cure him. The pressure Harry may put on Gwen as a result of her being an employee of his as well as Peter's ex would also add extra strain onto Peter as he tries to fulfill his promise to Gwen's father under the strain of dealing with his love and desire for Gwen, and also protecting her from her involvement in this rising conflict. Man, that would have been so amazing. I was hoping Homecoming would have been a light in the dark after Sony screwed the pooch, but I'd argue that movie was even worse than this one.

  • that was pretty good, i expected a 30 minute video and was ready for it, but still satisfied... this video reminded me of how important the role of the goblin was, i mean just look at the cartoon where the goblin is rightfully the main villain

  • Tbh this film got me SO hyped for the Sinister Six film, even if that added a chunk of unnecessary content to the rest of the movie. I loved the style that came with Foxx and Giamatti's goofy over-the-top performances and Gwen's death gave me goosebumps. I felt like the film did a great job at showing the sacrifices Peter made to keep being Spiderman with his relationship issues with Gwen (Ghost Dennis Leary was a nice touch), the end to his friendship with Harry and his struggle to keep the job up after losing Gwen. I think Rhino and Electro added a "villain of the week" touch to the film that you would see in a comic or cartoon while Harry acted more towards Peter's personal story. If I'd remove anything, it'd be everything about his parents, they could've put him at odds with Harry a number of ways, but I still don't think it was a bad movie. It had some junk in there to set things up, but at least it finished its individual story. Infinity War is the only "part one" I can say I enjoyed, there are definitely greedier films out there. tl;dr It had its flaws but it was a good time and I think it told a pretty good story

  • When it came to the Amazing Spiderman series, it honestly became one of my favorites in the idea that Andrew Garfield was able to portray more of a teenager apart from Toby McGuire. At the time of the first movie release, I was 14 years old and this awkward high school hipster looking kid is given incredible powers with the ability to save peoples lives. At the end of the movie when he grieves over the death of Gwen's father and his failed attempt to save him, that moment seemed so perfect to me in the idea that he has an entire city on his shoulders, as just a high school kid, and he can't save everyone all the time. I'm a little on edge about the new Spiderman in the MCU only because it contradicts a lot of things that I grew up knowing about Spiderman. I never read any of the comics, but as far as I knew, Mary Jane was a redhead that was a love interest to Peter Parker (not at all who the new portrayal is), Gwen Stacy was a blonde that was also a love interest, Flash was a big high school jock that used brute force to bully Parker (which is now replaced with a modernized version of a douchey, rich, indian kid), and then lastly, Spiderman doesn't ever seem completely by himself because of his high tech suit and always under the wing of Tony Stark. Sure, he's portrayed a lot more as a teenager, by far, but the responsibility part, to me, feels like... "Well, if Spiderman doesn't fix it, Iron Man and the Avengers probably will," sort of thing. But that's just me. I really like the Amazing Spiderman series.

  • How i would fix the film: Has Peter, Gwen and Flash graduates high school near at the end of the film. Keep an few delete scenes in here. Not has Harry be the Green Goblin and not gives him cancer. Remove Rhino. Make Electro not a Spider-Man fanboy and develop him a little bit more. Introducing Mary Jane Watson, J. Jonah Jameson, Robbie Robertson, Betty Brant and Captain Jean DeWolff. Not kill off Gwen.
