What ninjafruit means is that metal will let heat transfer to something else a lot faster than gas will, so your hand will receive much more energy from a hot metal pan compared to an equally hot moving gas.
Actual, if you time your touch, you won't burn. Your brain takes like ~0.5s to register pain, so by the time you feel the pain, your hand is already burnt. That's why "accidentally" touch hot things can burn you and "purposefully" touch it won't.

If I understand Star Wars lore correctly, a lightsaber can deflect blaster bolts because of magnetic fields repulsing each other. Conventional projectiles like bullets (called “slugthrowers” in the Star Wars universe), on the other hand, would at most melt or split when contacting the saber blade, which would continue their trajectory to the intended target. 12:07 helps explain why this is, which I found nice to know 😊. Blasters would technically be a different story. Considering Lightsabers have an extremely "solid" blade of plasma, they would likely use magnetic force to shape the blade. This magnetism could probably be configured to keep their specific blade of plasma contained, while repelling other sources of plasma, like a blaster.

Actually how are you guys able to make a real lightsaber fully in the hilt? With our technology, you will hv to reload the saber in every 15 seconds. The laminar flow in vacuum will loose its shape in vacuum because in atmospheric conditions, air pressure is helping to keep the shape of the blade. The blade will expand as it leaves the nozzle if the saber is used in vacuum. Also, it is likely that the saber will loose pressure if fired in vacuum and the combustion will not be continuous, so a chamber is needed. Anyways, always support what u guys do. Leidenfrost Effekt, I absolutely love it. Works with Lava too. You could slap hot molten metal for example away too, aslong as non sticks to your hand you wont get any burns. Don't try it of course, because.. obviously a piece can get stuck somewhere and then you'll have massive burn wounds. But it works.

Yes their is such thing as a 5th degree burn: Fifth-degree burn injuries occur when all the skin and subcutaneous tissues are destroyed, exposing muscle. These burns can be fatal due to damage to major arteries and veins. Fifth-degree burn injuries also may require amputation due to damage to muscles. If amputation is not needed, skin grafting will be required.
You could try making it with a more narrow blade and then see how much faster it can cut through metal

I'm not sure if I understood what he was saying about the realism about cutting through things instantly the right way, but it is possible based on how hot a lightsaber blade actually is. Aren't they like hotter than the sun? If that's the case, then that would make it pretty believable to be able to instantly cut through everything, as long as there's some sort of technology to protect everything around the blade from instantly burning. Edit: Just saw the part where he talked about the blade needing to be hotter than the sun to instantly cut through things. I'm leaving this here because it still sounded like he was saying heat transfer wasn't a thing in the movies.

Second - and yeah, I guess that makes sense - at least for most materials. It feels like even the temp of the sun should be enough to instantly cut a few things, but that's not what I'm studying. I guess even if we ever got the tech to get the blade to even a fraction of that temp, the problem of igniting the blade without the "side effects" would be the main obstacle of creating a lightsaber

@David Yu i think plasma/fire dont have fast enough heat transfer, but if you seing your hands through molten steel then it will trigger that
