  • Hey there, firstly thanks for this video. I guess I’m now what you would call an amateur barber…I was going to barbers for a fade religiously every 3 weeks… until COVID lockdown happened 2-3 years ago and all barbers were shut…..you can imagine how desperate us men were. Anyhow, after that ordeal, the past 2-3 years… I’ve been learning/practicing to cut my own hair and haven’t had to go back to one. (I also cut/fade my sons hair) I must say, DIY fades… on your own head…has never ever been easy. There’s so many limitations; mirror angles/distances, visibility, lighting, awkwardness etc. It’s also much easier to cut on someone else’s head. I don’t think “ you’ll get better and better” would be the perfect and most fitting way to describe it. You’ll always make some mistakes.. “oh I wish I didn’t go too high here… damn I can see a line…. Hmm the fade doesn’t look that great etc etc etc etc etc” Also it doesn’t help that my hair is black,mistakes are very noticeable. I’ve watched countless videos on KZhead throughout the journey.. some are more convoluted than others but I find yours is very single which is great. So my query is, if this was a self cut, what would you do differently to make things a bit easier? I personally struggle with guard #1 as it’s difficult to see. Thanks

    @eeiko321@eeiko3219 ай бұрын
    • This is possibly the most difficult self cut you could do! Idk if I have any specific tips. The one guideline is usually difficult to see. Maybe try blending down from the longest guard to the 1. Then fading up into that

      @Seancutshair@Seancutshair9 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for the reply. I tried your method yesterday on myself and I think it turned out ok. I wouldn’t know if fades are more difficult than others as this is the haircut I’ve only learnt and been doing on myself for the past 3years. But yeah I agree it’s not easy and doubt I’d be able to ever perfect it on myself. (Maybe if it’s a profession that I do 20 fades..per day… but once on my son and myself every 3 weeks.. most likely not) but I’m certain with the help of all the videos I’ve watched such as yours, the outcome of the cuts I do on myself exceeds some of the bad jobs I’ve had. I’m thinking would there be a way to utilis, start off or incorporate the 1.5 guard.. as I find that much easier to see than 1 as the first guideline.

  • When I was a teen back in the 90's a haircut was $7 or $8. I hated waiting an hour or more just to get a hair cut so I started doing it on my own. I got good at doing fades, tapers and lining up the forehead,& sides but never cuts like this, it was my weakness but i dig it. I would also cut my sons hair growing up so I'm good, do better than most barbers with fades and taper style only is what my sons say but shear work and styles like this have always been my weakness.fast forward 2024, haircuts are now $40 plus, when I heard that shit I couldn't beleive it lol cuz I aint been to a barber since the 90's. I do like how this current generation has changed up the style of the shops tho, it's like mechanic work shop style but with clippers, thanks for sharing,, great video, going to definatly watch your video to master this style of shear work.
