  • Bonnie, that question is such a great question. It teaches your kids that they can be honest with you at any time, even if you may be disappointed in them or if they think it may the other way around but not in a disrespectful way. They could come to you when they are older and say “Mom, when you say this, I feel this…, then this is where an honest discussion comes into play when they are teens. So many kids are afraid of their parents, go to others for advice, rather than trusting their families. No way with your kids, they trust you guys! Also, they know they can always trust you because you allow they to RESPECTFULLY have a conversation about yourself.

  • I grew up in Maryland and when I first came to Utah I felt exposed by the openness of the landscape. Now, when I go to the East and all the trees it feels like a hug after being in the vastness of the West. What is behind the trees is more trees haha. If you don’t mow fields they become woods.

  • I moved to Georgia 22 years ago from flat, treeless Texas and I know exactly what you mean about the trees. It took me at least a year to get used to driving on hilly roads and getting over the claustrophobic feeling of the trees everywhere. Since my grandchildren have been born, it feels like home now.

    • I came to Georgia 37 years ago from West Texas. It took me years to get used to the trees here in GA. I'm in Northeast Georgia. Texas doesn't get any flatter and more treeless than the West Texas Plains.

  • Ooh Bonnie, I definitely get claustrophobic being surrounded by trees! I also get the same feeling in the mountains when there is no view and just solid rock on both sides. I was designed for wide open vistas, lol. One of my sons spent a summer in northern Michigan at a field-based environmental study program. While we drove him there, we were surrounded by pine trees for hours! It was like being in a pine tree tunnel hour after hour. I was never so glad to get back to civilization. Thank you for sharing your trip!

  • I live in Atlanta and glad to see that you came through Georgia. BTW that stadium that you saw is the OLD Atlanta Braves stadium where the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Olympic games were held. The new Braves stadium is in Northwest Atlanta. I never get enough of the trees here and in South Georgia you have so much of the Live Oaks and moss that is just beautiful. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Bonnie.....the 2 year mark from when your parents left on their mission is coming up....in July, I think. Are they already home or will you be having a wonderul welcome home celebration for them.

If anything we have even more trees then the southern states. Anyways I wanted to say my sister and her family use to live near St Louis and to get to their home we use to go past the arch. You were further from the arch but still saw it. It’s cool down there because you were crossing the river and that’s why there was two or three bridges you can see at the same time. What you probably didn’t know is that the border of Illinois is right there real close to the arch. You were close to Illinois. When we would travel there right before one smaller bridge we were still in Illinois and then after we crossed the bridge we were in Missouri. So you were really close to Illinois. Again I’m from the western suburbs of Chicago. My sister and brother in law that lived there are back in Illinois down the street from me and their kids are full grown.

  • PoisoN Ivy Oil doesn’t get in the blisters. But it can stay on clothes and skin. When you go into woods like that, as soon as I come out I rub alcohol or sanitizer on my skin, clothes that touched foliage. It prevents from getting it and I’m highly allergic. I’ve had it in my lungs and throat before. Alcohol kills the oil, but once you have poison is doesn’t spread from the rash.

  • Bonnie & Joel: do your tick checks when you’re out in the woods! Ticks are so bad out east. Behind the ears, between the toes, behind the knees, underarms, in your scalp and yes… in the hidden private parts. They can be super small and you won’t feel them on you until they have fed for a few days and then you will feel a bump but it’s too late because they can spread disease if they are on for longer than a day.

  • We have enjoyed your videos in Florida. Does your truck have 2 steering wheels ? Joel was on passenger side ?

  • Didn’t you hate our terrible traffic coming through Atlanta!!! We live off of 75 north as you guys we’re heading to TN. I would have stood on the side of the expressway and waved to you guys, if we could have timed it right! That would have been a highlight of my life! 😃 I’m so glad that you guys got to visit Julie and Landon! Ok, now get home and sell it and move back to FL! 😂 JK! Prayers for continued safe travels! 😊

  • If your dog walks through the ivy, their fur will pick up the oil and you can spread it by petting the dog.

  • Omg it's funny you're comparing the woods to island fever because I come from a very tree dense area and visited north Dakota where it's flat and baren and I felt almost sick to my stomach with missing the comfort of being surrounded by tree.
