Back in the late 80s, I was given an IBM PS/2 P70 to take with me on an extended business trip -- it was a luggable PC complete with a 10 inch orange gas plasma display and a full size (desktop) keyboard. It was freaking cool. Shame I had to give it back when I returned home.

I had everything I could salvage back to Apple, Tandy, Amiga, PC, PC1, XT, etc...including racks of working data centre servers, Cisco switches from 5000 series all the way down to entry level models and Routers such as the 7000 series. My home workshop rooms were cabled with serial and ethernet. I also had some of the other business grade machines such as the Altos and AlphaMicro. OS's such as PICK, SCO xenix, SCO unix, CP/M, OS/2, the dozens of DOS variants, Netware, UnixWare, SunOS, HP-UX, OS/400. Then I got married, moved from technician to management, and sold/gave away most of my tech and still ended up taking 800Kg of "junk" to the recyclers.

    • I can see that, I grew up in the 80s and 90s and loved tech....problem was my parents wouldn't spend money on it. Now that I can afford whatever I want, im constantly upgrading my rig with the latest and greatest. I've built computers for my kids and my wife. I feel like I'm catching up for all those years trying to get games to run on subpar equipment and failing miserably lol. I can see how tech hoarding can get out of control fast!

    • @@MrRay3801 quote: "im constantly upgrading my rig with the latest and greatest" nice. I'm going the opposite way. I'm buying old, cheap computers and modify them to try how much lower i can go in old technology and still make something work. Like "whats the oldest PC that can still run LOL at medium settings" or "whats the oldest PC that can still run a youtube-video" and so on. it's a fun hobby to play with tech 😜

  • Excluding the RS Model 4P and TV connected computers, I started with two 386SX PCs i got from the base aafes for $200 not working. I got one working, shipped the other to packard bell for warranty return. Sold one for $600. Over the years I kept all my upgrades starting around the first Athlon. Doesn't even fill a reach in closet. After watching this video might get an old one running capable of installing those awesome Jane's flight sims from the 90s.... still have them all! Will need a month to read the flight manual for Jane's F15.

  • I did the mouse thing, but with scissors, bottle openers, tape measures, and screwdrivers: each floor has at least one that should be put back in its specific place (or at minimum the correct room) and it cost me maybe $50 max, but probably closer to $30
